choose your bass.

deep low but slow bass = ported

tight and fast bass = sealed

You can have the best of both worlds , but then you'll need a better amp and sub :)

LBM, would you recommend VW300 sub, if yes, then what about the port/sub-box?

Is it a blau sub ?

Sir very very incorrect. You cannot generalize thing for ported, sealed boxes.

I can show you many subs which plays deep low but slow bass in sealed but tight and fast bass in ported.

It is a very incorrect way to put things. It a lot depends on the sub, enclosure, and finally the amp. So choose wisely.

@ lbm

I dont want to start the debate all over again :)

@ radeon

Subwoofer Enclosures

a general idea about enclosures

If lbm is in charge, i'd suggest you get a ported box. the man knows his ports :P

people who dont know about proper enclosure design stand a good chance of screwing up the tuning of a vented box, even if they claim it is an exact copy of an expensive sub with enclosure. So a sealed box is always a safe bet :)

Yes Blau VW300 open subwoofer. I'm not sure whether branded ported woofers are better or not, but I'm thinking about VW300 sub with custom box/port or whatever. I'm sure the boxes/port could be made accordingly.

Venom? anybody?

I just thought that'd disastrous to my budget if I go with Blau VW300 sub-woofer as a Mono Class D amplifier would be required to power that monster, and that would cost approximately 15k for good 1800W (2250W peak for the woofer) plus additional 4.1 amp to drive speakers/component.

LBM, Greenhorn I'm lost again :(

A well designed ported system will anyday be better than a sealed system as it'll have better lower end extension and also there will be very little distortion till the frequency of tuning of the port. Ofcourse a well designed open baffle will beat them all to pulp. However it is very very hard to design an open baffle sub/speaker properly. Ported is easier but sealed is the easiest.

For once I'm with low bass makker on this one :P.

skip the class D monobloc for now and stick to lbm's oiginal suggestion. 4 ch amp + components in front and sub in rear

you can add the rear speakers and monobloc later

true i had designed ported enclosure for my friend who had only a pair of 16x9 speakers in his zen,the box was so huge that it was a tight fit inside ,which took the entire luggage space.it even fooled many car accessories shops ,they were so sure it atleast had a 10inch sub.
offcouse the bass was boomy ,and a dedicated sub would any day be better.

of the subs that i have heard JL audio was good followed by rockford fostage.

go with LBM suggestion. the setup is vfm and having heard the illusions in one of the setups, they sound awesome.

and yea, LBM makes some shiny round round ports :)

Hmmm like this ones....

Hmm, but I really don't want to go with Component as I have to sacrifice plastic/metal parts of the front doors, is there any alternate way?

lbm should be able to source illusion 4" comps , but to be honest, there isnt much difference between them and 4" coax when both are mounted on the dash. get 4" coax and spend the rest of the dough on the amp+sub then :D
