English TV series discussion

I am surprised at all the negative reactions to Sherlock on here. I thought they did a brilliant job. They had to play around with all the fan theories and go meta otherwise any reveal would have fallen flat. The reveal to Anderson was the real one. Granted the mystery of the week was a bit weak but they did a great job setting up the rest of a season while also just being 1.5 hours of fun.

^^That's exactly the problem. Sherlock was out of character throughout the episode. If they continue down the same path in the next episodes, then one of the best series would've gone down the drain just to pander to ridiculous fan theories. The episode felt more like fan-faction rather than the old Sherlock. Steven Moffat did the same with Doctor Who also I've heard, though I don't watch that show.

Any other good comedy show recommendations? Planning on Peep Show.
Into it's ninth season with rating >8.5 is a pretty decent record.

Ratings dont mean anything to me anymore. Spaced is rated too high , but i dint find it funny at all. Maybe its a culture thing and those guys found it funny at that time and it has so many references that an average man cant ever understand. On the other hand, peep show deals with such everyday (and otherwise) awkward situations that these guys find themselves trapped in accompanied by hilarious voice overs , there is never a dull moment and anyone who watches will be in splits.

Also, my fav show ever ( used to watch in childhood) is Brady Bunch and it has 6.6 rating on IMDB. It is still referenced in countless tv shows/ movies throughout and is sort of a cultural icon in america. If you guys remember the tv show the girls were watching in The conjuring movie in their new house, it was the Brady Bunch :D.

Good tv shows ,you cant just go by ratings. You have to keep exploring to see what gels with you and you never know which becomes your favorite. Downloading archer now based on various people recommendations for a hilarious series.

Completed 'Wentworth' and loved this show. Great characters, extremely brutal at times and amazing performances. Can't wait for season 2.

Was in two minds to either pick up 'Arrow' or get 'Strike Back'. In the end, decided to go with Strike Back. Since the first season is quite short, I should be done watching it over the coming weekend. Might not be able to complete the second one though.

Another "filler" episode of Sherlock. Cumberbatch was good in it but there were no signs of "progress" with the overall story - i.e., the new villain they showed in the last scene of the last episode. So looks like we'll again see glimpses of him in the next episode and then forget about him till the next season which would be 2 years away yet again.
Feck off.

My fear of Sherlock came true. Though, I liked this episode for its scriptwriting; combined multiple stories in an effective manner. Those who've read some of the original short stories will notice some similarities. The cinematography was something to note too; just excellent. However, the music and editing has taken a beating. I actually slept halfway through the episode because I was so bored, and tired too.

Also, Cumberbatch is made to be the centre of attraction rather than the role he's playing; he's got too popular now and the show makers are capitilazing on it without giving heed to the character. It's almost as if the show is written for the ones obsessed with everything Cumberbatch.

I would prefer that this season to be it's last than to wait another 2 years to see the quality going down further.

But it's insanely popular with the season premier notching around 10 million brit viewers alone out of a population of 60 million

Yesterday night watched sherlock.. What a garbage. I think they just rushed out this episode also. Perhaps writers wrote it in the loo. Utter BS.

Started watching Seinfeld again. Glad to be back on good shows.

Try out Comedians getting coffee in car by seinfeld.. :).. Nice.

Jerry Seinfeld did an awesome AMA over at reddit. Really insightful answers into the show and his comedy career.
