English TV series discussion

Succession Season 3 (9/10)-

There are few shows which have episodes which give me goosebumps.
The season 3 finale went above and beyond the season 2 finale. The last episode which held my attention like this was the Red Wedding.

Watched few of David Simon's series (of The Wire fame) -

The Deuce - portrays the cultural scene (prostitution, police, porn) based around The Deuce in Manhattan, NY (just like Drugs, Crime, Police, Politics, Schools and Media in Maryland, Baltimore in The Wire). Season 1 has been good with few repeat actors from The Wire.

D'Angelo Barksdale has redeemed himself in an upright policeman's role in this one, irony! Maggie Gyllenhaal is pretty good, but don't understand the reason behind shooting a double role for James Franco though.

Generation Kill - war drama based on Iraq invasion. Loved the raw portrayal of war. Totally recommended.

Modern Love - inspite of the cheesy title, few episodes have a very warm and feel-good factor. I can totally recommend Episode 1 and 7 (Season 1) and Episode 1 (Season 2).

Banshee - the stupidest TV I have watched till date.

Just started watching "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and this is not about that though. There was a music at start and at end and it seemed familiar. Then when I saw directed by "robert b weide", I figured this is same tune from so many Instagram reel videos.
 
Years ago I picked watching Dexter after it was recommended somewhere on this forum, it's back again after years of hiatus. Anyone watching it ? I've seen the first 2 episodes and looks like a good thing to pickup & getting to see the man back in action. Also, last few seasons were getting poor, hope it gets better with them saying that the original director is back (not sure of details)

Ummm.... It's okay. Not in the league of Haubting of Hill House/ Bly manor (to which it was initially being compared with, broadly being in a similar genre )
Let us know how you feel after watching it, for me it was a 6.5/10.

Yes, definitely worth watching. Had little hopes from the new season but so far so good. Especially after the last episode, can't wait for the next one.

Yeah but still it feels a bit slower than usual. It took this many episodes to come to this point.
And the son's storyline is a bit boring to this point. I guess there will be a tug of war between Dexter and that rich guy over the father figure/dark passenger guide role.

I guess we have been spoiled by the great TV shows that came out since Dexter.
I still remember that hair-raising scene where Dexter finds his kid crying in a pool of his mother's blood.
 
The Witcher Season 2 (7/10)
The ingredients are all there- Great story beats, superb cast and acting but still the chef cooking the meal seems high on Cocaine.

I was happy that they got rid of the gimmick of jumping back and forth in time like the 1st season but it seems they came up with a more irritating gimmick-
Cutting off a scene midway, going to another scene in progress and then switching back again.
This vice was especially noticeable in ep5 where Geralt went to Istredd for the monolith quest.
This irritated me so much that I came in here to vent midway through episode 6.

Another problem is the sheer number of characters and side mysteries they keep on introducing without linking the open ends from the previous ones.

You can contrast this form of storytelling greatly with GoT where they didn't keep on introducing new players before they had set up the dynamic clearly between the existing ones.

Yennefer and Geralt are still damn good though. Anya Chalotra is a powerhouse. I hope this does for her career what "Killing Eve" did for Jodie Comer.
