Car & Bike Enlivening an old dream..Yamaha RX135 !

Mohit said:
The RX series were definitely the best bikes from Yamaha in India. They do not have a good fuel efficiency though. I know as I have a RX 100 and a RX 135 (5 -speed) :P

Planning to re-build my bikes soon, might need some tips. They haven't been used since long :(

Take your bike to Bangalore with you and get it worked upon there. :)

Sunnyboi will help you contact the right people hopefully. :)

But don't do any mods sunnyboi says. :bleh:

Nah his is very stockish....

year is 97, dont remember the month....

rx series was started by yamaha(wid escorts) in india .

first one was rx100.

it gained cult status as

1. could easily pwn those 100cc 4 strokers from HH and bajaj

2. way better reliability than other 2 strokers(yezdi)

3. xlent starting pik up(i really feel the push in fist gear the moment u let the clutch go)

4. gr8 macho looks

5. expensive(thus guaranteeing exclusivity in college parking area)

6. loud exhaust(again for attention grabbing of chicks in college parking area)

but it had a string of problems too

1. 2 stroke -> poor milage (but fuel was cheap then)

2. 2 stroke , needs 2 t oil

3. 2 stroke running out of breath too quickly(2 strokers suffer from power delivery in very narrow range of rpm problem . thus barring good initial pik up it was very bad from 70kmph onwards

4. expensive

5. brakes -> poor considering the bike type

6. pollution , could never pass pollution tests thus was discontinued.

thus to sum up it appealed to college guys to boast their ego over lesser (4 strokers)

for its looks, power and sound.

but in todays scenario it is a very poor bike

1. no good specimens available now

2. pathetic mileage

3. must always bribe the pollution check guys

4. power-> present gen 150 cc bikes are much ahead to it in terms of power, reliablity and economy and even styling

5. karol bagh will soon become ur weekly sunday joint

i have tried all yamaha 2 strokers(except rd350)

belive me rx 100 was good for its time but no good now.

its top speed will be put to shame by even a bajaj platina(try it if u want)

so why should u go for it?

1. u like to stand out of the crowd

2. u believe in nostalgia

dude , a stock RX will beat a stock P 180 in a drag even today :P

modded P 180's and higher speeds are another thing though

wateva....RX100 really a gr8 bike to own if you are a bike lover....unfortunately for me havnt gotta chance to own RX100 or RD350 till this time....hoping for that one day

@main_trouble.....that was very nicely written, all the points bang on target :hap2:

My main purpose of buying the RX and restoring it to stock condition, is not to drag race on the german autobahn or to compete with any other bikes :bleh: , but just to enjoy a slow and peaceful ride within short distance. I'll ride the bike maybe 15-20 kms in a week, that too only on the weekend or I might not get the time to ride it at all.

You can say, maybe making an old dream come true.

very doubtful mate

maybe for first 1-1.5 seconds u get a greater thrust on a rx100(inherent in two strokers) by after that rx 100 will fade away in rear view mirrors of p180(stock , no mods)

and don't even get me starting on top speeds of rx series.

I have used a 150CC and 180CC Pulsar too. I find these bikes too damn heavy. They have the power though but still I don't know I have never liked any bike in India after these Yamaha RX series. Maybe its just me :P and only a person who has driven the RX series knows what it feels like. And ya, I like standing in the crowd and also the sound of my Yamaha :P

Btw, anybody has those old posters of these RX bikes? There were really nice ones designed for them. Sunny have you seen them?

sunny i disagree with you....stock RX can easily overtake p180(not modded)....man thing is RX is light weight man....pumps more power too

Here is a video of my bike  Archish was riding it. Turn your volume really high when the bike sets off. Now thats how a proper RX should sound ;)

YouTube - Run 1 on 12 May 08

This is the max I could do.

All this with a stock engine :P stock as in only the bore and porting was stock

Only RX135 5-speeds can beat the current 150cc and the pulsar 180 by a close margin. P200 and 220, well it gets owned.

u may feel pulsars too heavy comparing to rx100 just because initial 2 stroke thrust of rx100

power delivery of a 4 stroker is much smoother.

but again that is just the feeling , not the real thing.

if u really wanna test "legendary rx100"

1. for pik up -> just have a drag race wid pulsar150

2. top speed-> try wid bajaj platina(no need for 150cc for this)

the moment u cross 70kmph on rx 100 , bike will be giving u a constant massage in handlebars/footrests.

after half an hour they may end up completely numb(above 80kmph if u wanna try)

also rx100 would be literally pissing out precious petrol u just filed up in ur tank.

but rx 100 owns other bikes in all the good noises its exhaust makes and generous amount of chrome thrown here and there.

@Sunny

Is the bike in the video a 5-speed one? You replaced the silencer kya?

EDIT :

@main_trouble

Dude I have pushed my bikes well above 70-80 kmph (on the speedo) and ya these bikes do present you with a lot of vibration at these speeds. But the initial 2-stroke thrust is what drives me crazy. Lol. It feels so nice to leave everybody behind in a traffic signal with smoke on their face. Lol. And for my city, its a PITA to have a Pulsar. RX's require less space in traffic and can let you commute much more easily and in a jiffy. Riding a Pulsar for a long time in traffic is tiring, at least for me. And for some strange reason I like the CB-Z more than the Pulsar. Never really liked Pulsar. Found it uncomfortable always.

sunny...thats amazing :hap2:

Anyone knows any good mechanic in delhi, or should I take it to an authorized service center ?

Here's the list that I have compiled for things to do, feel free to add to it..:P

Replace Air Filter
Clutch plate
Carburetor
Spark Plug
Gear Oil
Engine Oil
Clean and decarbonize silencer
Clean Piston Head
Lubricate chain set, adjust slack
Brake pad, clutch plate
Wheel balancing and alignment
Oil Seals
Battery
Horn
Shock Absorber Oil

dude if u are that much of a fanboi for rx100

i got a golden suggestion for u

get some contacts in nepal.
as far as i know last rx 100 were still being sold in nepal.

u may end up getting a much newer bike than what u may get here

i know it is a lotta hard work and money , but what is that for a true fan!!!

^^Are these bikes still being sold in Nepal? Can somebody confirm this? I have a source there and might try to import one in the future if this is true.
