Reluctant to go with Samsung after hearing about spider failure.
A relative, a family with two kids went with a Sammy in 2011, they replaced it with a Bosch in 2018-19. No spider failure.
Since they did not want to spend more they went with a 44cm depth machine. Naturally, it got used twice a day often. The reason for the replacement was since it was a 5kg machine it started to refuse loads after some time because they were too heavy. I did not understand why this problem occurred after some time when it was not there before. After discovering about this calibration business with Sammy's I think that might have been the cause. Hard to know because I only learnt years after they changed the machine. And it is certain they will be looking for another when the Bosch gives them trouble.
Since they got a good seven years out of it I'm not buying the Samsung spider failure in under five years provided you use front load detergent.
Can anyone tell me what kind of detergent this guy is using with his brand new Samsung front loader?

I'm not aware of any blue-coloured front-load detergent. So that is something else which should not be used.
How will going for a 44 cm depth drum impact machine longevity?
You run the machine more often. These machines have a 2,500-wash duty cycle assuming maintenance and no hard water.
We are only two people. If I absolutely need to go with LG and 56 cm depth, this is the cheapest I could find. Anyone using this machine?
Even for one person, I would recommend a 55cm depth machine. You will do laundry less. Less wear and tear means longer lasting machine.
Might have been true when I demonstrated some time ago through the spare parts website that the 45cm Bosch did not have sealed tubs. Don't take it for granted.
If Bosch & Siemens have sealed the rest of their line there is always the chance the same will occur at some point with these smaller models as well.
So double-check in the manner i showed to be on the safe side if at any time you decide to go with such a machine.
The
power consumption values seem a bit odd to me
Consumption values
Energy consumption 30C delicates
0.20 kWh
Energy consumption 30C woollens
0.17 kWh
Energy consumption 40C colour
1.01 kWh
Energy consumption 40C easy care
0.79 kWh
Energy consumption 95C cotton
1.90 kWh
At 40 degrees i measured half what they claim as well as with the boil wash.
40 degree washes work out to under half a unit and the tub clean and boil wash are about a unit.
I also find it surprising the ommission of the cottons cycle which is the one that can handle that rated load of the machine. Cottons is the flagship cycle of any machine. The one you will use the most often.
Might be using warm temperature rinses. Though I can't figure out whether that is the case using their cryptic manual. More rinses or longer wash cycles don't really add much to power consumption. Its when that heater comes on that the power consumption goes up. I won't knock it. Warm water washing is the best washing you can get.
