Hi all ,

After reading this thread , I think its a good place to ask some question before upgrading my 3 years old MSI 8800 GTS 640 ...
If anyone help me it would be great to me...I am trying to stick to the template as long as I can...

What is your budget?
Rs22,000 to 25,000

Current rig Specs
CPU --- Intel Q9550 (Stock)
Motherboard ---- ASUS P5Q-Deluxe
RAM ------ 8GB 800MHz DDR2
Monitor --- DELL SP2309W

Which PSU/SMPS will you be using?
Corsair 620HX

Primary use? (Casual gaming, Hardcore gaming, Just for display, Movies/HTPC)
Hardcore gaming of course:P:P

What resolution do you game on?
1920 x 1200

Interested in Crossfire/SLI?
NO

Open to both Nvidia/ATI?
YES

I am from Kolkata , so before giving your suggestion please remember , in Kolkata any high end peripherals is hard to find:no::no:.So if you suggest a card , then please tell from I can get it here in Kolkata:cool2::cool2:

My personal wish list are ATI 5870 or Nvidia GTX470
But can not finalize ,

ATI 5870 has much better shading power , but GTX 470 has more tessellation power. (In future is there any chance that ATI can improve tessellation performance on 5870 ???:huh:)

CUDA , Physx are all in Nvidia team , ATI only has stream

Nvidia's VP4 is much better than ATI's UVD2

Nvidia is power hungry , hot (very important in Kolkata climate)

ATI 5870 is expensive

But in raw gaming performace ATI 5870 wins

So whats your suggestion

Brand prference
for ATI 5870
1> PowerColor
2> XFX
3> Safier

For GTX470
1> EVGA
2> ZOTAC
3> ASUS
4> MSI

Wating for your suggestion:):)

Rgds
SBM

Its a no brainar get the 5870 and enjoy all the games in high quality:)get it from our te dealer its 23k shipped from media home . Thats where I got mine:)and ya 5870 kills 470

hey I think I asked my question alright but no1 answered...is any1 willing to help? also I live in Delhi so I don't think finding the required graphic card wud be a prob..also is Nvidia GeForce GT220 decent enough to play cod4?

Id suggest you to second hand HD 4670 or a HD 4650...at that resolution...HD 4670 will max out nearly all the games...:)
and yes..all of these cards can handle cod4..

Id say, first you chalk out your budget and what components you intend on buying...
for a graphic card in that budget...such a good PSU(which you intend to buy) is of no use..
So...make a list what you want and how much you are willing to shell out..
you will definately get a better system..:)

I guess your PSU is extreme power series...
so, your best bet is the HD 5670 ~ 5.2k...with that PSU..

you need to buy a better PSU to run any card above this..
try getting a Nvidia GTS250 ~ 6.4k and a gigabyte superb 460 ~ 2.2k..:)

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

is GTS 250 better than 5670hd??
what version should i get of any of the above??
512mb or 1gb??

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

@ankur: Yes. Gts 250 is better than hd 5670. 512 mb version of that suffices for almost all the games at resolutions lower than 1920x1200. Get the 1gb version if you play gta iv.

PS: 5670 is a DX11, 40nm card, consumes a lot lesser power, but performs a lot worse than a GTS 250. GTS 250 performs better than even the 5750, in almost all the games.

And if you have a cooler master extreme psu which comes with the cabinet, nothing more than a 5670 should be bought. Please give the detailed specs of your psu.

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

hy ragzdibolo,

two months back I bought 5770 as u suggested and it is working brilliant and realy is vfm.

im able to ply games at high settings except resolution, eg, metro 2033, falout3, gta4, just cause2 etc are working fine at 1280x720 at 40-60 fps on an average depending on the game.

i want to play games at 1980x1050 at 60fps.

so wat do u suggest should i buy another 5770 or change my processor,

one more thing as i mentioned below i hv psu of atek 600wtt, im curious weather upgrading psu will improve performance of my 5770

other details are below

1. What is your budget?25000

2. Current rig Specs

CPU c2d 2.93 ghz

Motherboard asus p5kpl-cm

RAM 4 gb

Monitor samsung 24"

3. Which PSU/SMPS will you be using? currently atek 600 watt

if i buy one more 5770 then ill hv to buy a new one, plz suggest that too

4. Primary use? - Hardcore gaming(i dont know the proper definition of hardcore gaming but i prefer to complete the game 100% if its a good one, eg metro 2033, assissians creed 2, dragon age, bioshock 2 100% completed)

plz dont take above statement other wise just trying to tell u about my level of gaming intencity!

5. What resolution do you game on? 1980x1050

6. Interested in Crossfire/SLI? ya

7. Open to both Nvidia/ATI? still open to buy 480/470 if it dilivers what i need at my current config

plz advise which way should i go gpu or cpu or a new psu

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

Hey. What card would you recommend for me?

I am looking to buy a new PC soon and I would not want to pay for than 5-6k for the card.

I would probably have a i3 530 proccy.

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

ur best options according to me are:

9800 Gt - Approx. 6.2k
ATi 4850 - Approx. 7.5k
GTS 250 - approx. 7.2k

The 5 series card are there too but i don think u wud wanna go for them unless u want DirectX 11. U can wait for more expert opinions on this though.

Yep, the GTS250 is better than the HD 5670...
the HD 5670 performs just a little below 9800gt...
and the GTS250 is a rebranded 9800gtx+...
so you can make out that there is noticeable difference...

But dont try running a GTS250 on that PSU..
And try getting the 1 gig version...as you will game on high resolution..the extra memory will help churn out some more frames.

I think the best option will be...
To get yourself a new CPU...something like a I5
a new P55 motherboard...which supports crossfire..
and RAM according to that..

These upgrades are necessary because if you plan on doing hardcore gaming, its not just the graphics card that will help..the whole system should be good enough..and you will have to shell out some extra bucks for that...

For the Graphics, once you get a crossfire mobo, get yourself a new HD5770...
put it in crossfire :ohyeah:...id suggest you get a new corsair VX 550w to do the job ..

another alternative to this is..

sell out your HD5770 and get a new HD 5850..if you are not satisfied with the performance then....collect some more money and buy another HD 5850..:hap2:

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

I have a 19 inch Monitor.
My specs will probably be:

Processor: i3 530
Mobo: Not yet decided.
RAM: 2 or 4GB DDR3

PSU could you suggest along with the graphic card?

Get a GTS250 ~ 6.4k and a gigabyte superb 460 ~ 2.2k..
This is a DX10 card...
If you want your card to be futureproof..that is DX 11..
then go with HD 5670 ~ 5.2k..

Ya being future proof would be good.

How is the HD5670 card? Is it better than the GTS250?

And its a DDR3 video card? And 512 or 1 GB?

HD5670 is radeon right?

I keep hearing that Radeon cards have compatibility issues with games and it's better to go for NVIDIA...

There are no compatibility issues with ATI cards..
The HD 5670 is a good VFM card, but if compared on performance..the GTS 250 beats it..
Go for the 1 gig version only if you intend on playing games on very high resolutions..

Zotac 9800 GTX+ and HD4770 are both under 6K ?

9800GTX+ sells by the name of GTS 250 now..
wont say that they are below 6k..
around 6k..
6.2k -6.4k..

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

How much better is the GTS 250 than HD 5670??

And with 5670 having DirectX 11 support but being worse than the GTS is it worth getting the 5670? And the 5670 price you quoted, is it for 512 or 1GB? I would prefer 1 GB of course..

Oh and one more thing the HD 5770 is better than the 5670 right? How much is that for?

Hmm i play on the 19 inch monitor. So i guess the resolutions are not very high. So i should stick to 512mb right? And hows the 5770. Thanks mate :D

I have been reading reviews of the HD 5670 and it's not all that great and as you say the GTS 250 comfortably beats it as does a couple of others like HD 5750.

So what other Nvidia/Radeon cards would you recommend that are in similar price ranges but better performing than the HD 5670 and won't require an update anytime soon.

if i buy another 5770, would 2 5770s b able to match 1 5870, plz adise as i dont realy want to sellout my 5770, i ll not get any thing out of it,

i can buy mobo wit 4 pcie slots so i can put in 3rd 5770 after 1 yr or so, wat do u think is it a good idea, so may b ill get 3rd one at 5000~6000 aftr a yr?

and fr cpu how do u think amd 555be (only concerned about bottelneck with 2~3 5770s) will perform its cheap and might turn into a quad if im lucky!!:hap2:

plz advise smps for 4 5770s, its better to buy one with extre capacity!!

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

Please suggest a graphics card which i can use for playing games at good graphics rendering. I dont have much knowledge of hardware so pls spare me if I left some required details. The usage is only for playing games like f.e.a.r 2, crysis 2 etc..

What is your budget? 3k

Current rig Specs

CPU - AMD Athlon x4 630

Motherboard - Gigabyte

RAM - 2GB(DDR -2)

Monitor - CRT (will upgrade to lcd soon)

Which PSU/SMPS will you be using? want to use least priced branded PSU available

Primary use? (Casual gaming, Hardcore gaming, Just for display, Movies/HTPC) - purely for gaming

What resolution do you game on? dont remember but should be able to render graphics at higher resolution as well

Interested in Crossfire/SLI?

Open to both Nvidia/ATI? - yes

ATI HD4650 512MB ~ 3k. Its the best gaming card in ur budget. Try to get a MSI/Sapphire brand. What PSU do u currently use with ur rig?
