Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

@thanga...

i think you got your answer...

If you looking for your card to be future proof..

the HD 5770 it should be..

and dont think you will be compromising or anything...

its a great card and will max out almost every game at the resolution you plan on gaming on..

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

Great Guys,

Thanks for all the suggestions, I think I would go with 5770. :cool2:

Pity GTA4 is ported badly to PC :(

Praying red dead redemption would survive porting...

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

Looking for graphics card in rs.3500/-.....what about ati hd 4650...and ati 4670 512mb versions......what is the performance of these two cards ,since there is around 600 rs. price difference between these twos....

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

Hello gang, I am pretty confused due to budgetary constraints.

1. What is your budget? around 15k

2. Current rig Specs

CPU - AMX X3 720 BE, oced to 3.2 Ghz on stock

Motherboard - ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO

RAM - Transcend 2 GB 1333 DDR3

Monitor - Benq 2420 HD

3. Which PSU/SMPS will you be using? - Corsair VX450W

4. Primary use? (Casual gaming, Hardcore gaming, Just for display, Movies/HTPC)

Gaming primarily , watching HD movies secondary.

5. What resolution do you game on?

Used to on 1024*768 on my 8600GT. After upgrading from 17" to 24", lower res seem really bad.

Would prefer 19xx or 16xx, either with 2x-4x AA.

I am not a min-maxer and prefer game play over eye candy.

6. Interested in Crossfire/SLI?

Not at the moment. Maybe open to the idea later.

7. Open to both Nvidia/ATI?

Yes

My confusion is as follows. With a 15k budget, should i go for

5850 or equivalent

or

5770/equivalent + 2gb more of ram + 2k CPU cooler. The ram and cooler if not critical, I can buy later.

or

GTS 250 + ram + cooler for now. Use it a phyx card next year, when 6XXX cards get released, which would provide better tessalation than 5XXX cards.

It's sad to see current expensive cards struggle to tesselate. So much money for poor performance.

Thanks guys!

Vinny

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

The additional RAM although will be a good investment, it would not improve the gameplay experience minus the loading time. So grab a HD5850 IMO. There are quite a bunch of second hand deals on the market ATM. Grab one and get a CPU heatsink if you have some moolah left.

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

Yep, since you primarily need it for gaming..and that too that high resolution..

Its better to get a HD 5850, as Desecrator mentioned..few good deals are taking place in the market section, so have a look..

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

Went ahead and bought a Sapphire 5850 before I changed my mind.

Runs awesome, even though it broke my bank balance :(

Pretty big difference , going from a 8600GT to a 5850 :)

Thx guys!

HD 4670 is better

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

1. What is your budget? "Rs.6000~ or $120~ (Open to Indian and US market)"

2. Current rig Specs

. CPU "AMD 3800+"

. Motherboard "MSI RS482M4-ILD (Onboard ATI Radeon 200)"

. RAM "DDR1 RAM, 512x2MB" :)

. Monitor "Sony 17in with DVI-D"

. (I'll be upgrading mobo, cpu and moniter(22in+) in coming future. But need GC now.)

3. Which PSU/SMPS will you be using? "Corsair 450VX"

. Cabinet "CM Elite 335"

4. Primary use? "Casual gaming(Mostly) + Hardcore gaming(GTA4 and COD3+), Also support 22in+ future display"

5. What resolution do you game on? "Flexible"

6. Interested in Crossfire/SLI? "No"

7. Open to both Nvidia/ATI? "ATI/Nvidia"

Please suggest a GC for my existing PC which is also compatible to any future upgrades.

Since you're open to NVIDIA GPU only & your budget is Rs.6000, a 9800GT will be fit for you. If you can spend 800-1k more then you can get yourself GTS 250; but you have very low System Memory, at least 2GB is required nowdays for gaming so you need to add RAM soon. GTS 250 will handle GTA IV etc well enough & is better than 9800 GT.

Just before i suggest you a card, can you please confirm which motherboard you have...

since you have ddr1 ram..there may be a chance that your mobo doesnt have a PCIe card...

if you are sure that it does have one...

its not advisable to get a card of that budget....because it will be bottlenecked by your processor...

you need to upgrade your computer..

Dont expect that you can run GTA4 with good settings, even if you have a good GC...the DDR1 ram will bring everything down..

Thanx for so many replys
Some clarifications:
-My motherboard does have a PCI Express slot.
-If I go for GTS250 or 9800GT, which manufacture and what RAM
-I can live with my GPU not getting fully utilized (bottleneck) till upgrades. :) (Unless it degrades existing performance)

I was looking at benchmarks and they depicts that GTS250, 9800GTX and 9800GT all work almost at par. Though GTS260 is way above these three but it won't fit in my price range.

Also I found that Radeon is now coming with DDR5 so I can go for ATI too.
Please suggest something from ATI family too. Thanx

You won't find 9800 GTX here in India. GTS 250 is better that 9800 GT by around 8 fps, which does matter for graphics-intense games such as Crysis, GTS IV but 9800 GT can satisfy you well. Don't go for 1GB, go for 512MB & any make will do, it doesn't matter, all are equally good.

As for ATI, at around that price you may get Radeon HD 4770 & HD 5670. The later is not that good, only has DX11 support. HD 4770 is better.

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

Well, actually the series is like...

9800gt < 9800gtx < 9800gtx+ = GTS 250..

the GTS 250 is a rebrand of the 9800GTX +...

out of all these it is the best, and a little faster than the ATI card in its league which is the HD 4850...

The GTS 250 costs around 6.3k..for the 512mb version...

so go for that..

I have been looking around at benchmarks and performance, these were my findings.

9800GT, 9800GTX,+ are slightly bigger in length and may require rearranging inside cabinet.
250GTS in known to be re-branded 9800GTX, but that's not all true. 250GTS is slightly better then performance as what I can see in charts. Also its power consumption and heat output is noticeably less at 'idle' stage as well as 'peek' stage; since I won't be gaming all the time I am considering this factor.

Here is nice energy and heat chart for almost all gpus - Power Consumption, Noise Levels, And Temperature Readings : Roundup: Mainstream Graphics Cards From ATI And Nvidia

Why not 1 GB RAM, as far as i know, more RAM is good for "graphics-intense games such as Crysis, GTS IV".:(

4770 and 4750 runs hot.
