which one is better for gaming.....?
1GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 420M or 1GB Graphics ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730
 
Planning to get a GPU card for moderate gaming
budget 8 to 11K
What would be a better option? Would be getting it now.
Was thinking between
5770, 460, 6850
but in two minds if I should invest now or should stick to onboard ATi graphics or get 5670 for now and upgrade in April/May??

For moderate gaming with ur 20" monitor, the Sapphire HD5770 @ 7.8k will do fine.

These forums seem to be great! I hope to buy a graphics card and need advice...

Budget: Under 10k
Primary Use: Casual/Hardcore Gaming (Games like COD4, Fallout 3, GTA4 etc... Hoping to play them on highest graphics settings)
Resolution: My default screen resolution is 1440x900, so I set all games to that when i play them.
Open to: Both Nvidia and ATI
Interested in Crossfire/SLI? I have no clue what this is... So if it is necessary, then sure. But if it is costly, then I'd rather not.

Computer: HP m8190in
All specs can be found HERE

The only difference is I have 3GB RAM, not 2GB.

I was thinking of buying the Nvidia 9800GT but I am unsure if my motherboard will support it. The website says I need PCIE 2.0, but I think my motherboard has only PCIE x16.
Please do check it out...

I have an age-old pc which is doing great job.. except its inability to play some of the HD movies.. :( Not in a mood of system upgrade for a year, hence looking for a gfx card which can solve my purpose..

1. What is your budget? Open
2. Current rig Specs AMD 3200+ (939) / MSI RS480M-IL / Transcend 512 X 4 DDR1 400 / Samsung Syncmaster 17"
3. Which PSU/SMPS will you be using? VIP (or do i need to upgrade it?)
4. Primary use? Casual gaming, HD Movies
 
Maintaining one huge thread for GPU buying advice in a discussion forum seems kinda of pointless.

Anyway are you looking for a PCIE 2.0 card?

9800GT is so outdated now :p The PCI-E 2.0 cards are backwards compatible IINM and it should work in your PC even if urs is PCI-E 1.1.

The cards i would recommend are Nvidia Zotac GTS450 1GB GDDR5 ~ 7.3k/ Sapphire HD5770 1GB GDDR5 ~ 7.8k

Also your PSU is a 300w one and will lack the PCI-E power connector. So you should upgrade to Gigabyte Superb 460 ~ 2k/ Corsair CX400 ~ 2.65k (both have 3 years warranty but the Corsair has better quality components)

Many ppl have got their queries solved by this thread and now it has 1100+ posts. So why not? If there is an absolute must for someone who feels his queries will need to be sorted out by lenghty discussions then no one is stopping them from opening a new thread for their queries.
 
Hi, Thanks for the reply. Personally I think this thread is a great idea, i don't see why its pointless.

Anyway, I got the Radeon HD 5670 and a 600W PSU , totally costing 12k. Hopefully the 5670 is as good a choice.
The card doesn't need a PCI-E power connector though. It seems to work fine so it's okay.

considering 6850 and 6850 toxic edition.

Which is more vfm?

I dont think the Toxic editions is available easily and even the Saaphire HD6850 (stock version) is available only in limited quantities @ 11.2k shipped.

And,what about Gigabyte GA-G31M-S2L motherboard which got PCI-E 1.0 ?

It support 250mb/s max.

Will it support PCI-E 2.0 and 2.1 video cards ?

We don't want any bottleneck.

I'm really confused.....

zotac / msi /asus

rest are pointless

palit -too much heat issues reaches almost 70 deg

gigabyte -Not available in india

What PSU does he have? Eventhough the HD5670 doesnt need a seperate PCI-E power connector i would suggest u get a decent PSU if he doesnt have a good one already.
Yes the HIS Radeon HD5670 IceQ 512MB GDDR5 ~ 5k is an excellent buy IMO :)
