GTA V - Discussion Thread

Re: Grand Theft Auto 5 - Discussion Thread

Rockstar is currently in full marketing mode with the recent announcement and trailer launch of Max Payne 3, due for release in March 2012.

Despite their best efforts, fans have persistently been asking about Grand Theft Auto and we're all too familiar with how they avoid such questions! However, thanks to a Max Payne 3 Q&A session on Rockstar's own Newswire, there has finally been some form of acknowledgement to the series.

"When are we going to see a new GTA????? #bestgameever" - received via Twitter

"When's the new grand theft auto coming out?" - received via Twitter

Big, big shout to all Grand Theft Auto fans worldwide who we know are anxious to hear about what's next for the franchise but we don't have any news at this time. All we can say is, right now, we're focused on our next upcoming releases which are Max Payne 3 as well as L.A. Noire for PC, Red Dead Redemption Game of the Year Edition and Max Payne for mobile devices. When and if we have anything to report regarding the Grand Theft Auto franchise, you know that we'll do so here at the Newswire or on our Twitter or Facebook.

— Rockstar Newswire

Left appropriately until the end of the post, Rockstar have informed us all that we're getting no news or information in the near future. The questions could easily have been avoided, so props to Rockstar for asking fans to exercise a little patience during the promotion of other games.

Take from the answer what you will. The tenth anniversary of GTA III is around the corner, so there has been speculation amongst fans that Rockstar may treat us to a surprise before the year is out. That aside, it is still looking more and more likely that 2012 will be the year we will hear more.

This wasn't Roman's quote. It was actually Dave, one of Niko's crew mate. But yes, Roman was a superb supporting character too. ;)

Errr, I never meant that Roman said that dialogue? Did I :)

Re: Grand Theft Auto 5 - Discussion Thread

Well my guess for the city in GTA V is Vice City. But my brother is betting Rs.100/- that V is for Vegas aka Las Venturas. Hmm...

Nov 2nd cant come soon enough!!

Damn, I better finish GTA 4 soon. :p

Dont worry dude, you have plenty of time. Last time they announced GTA4 in 2006 and released it in 2008. So, going by that, GTA V will most probably come in 2013 end.

But, yea GTA 4 was awesome, so do finish it soon. :p

GTAV puts multiple protagonists in fictional LA - Report

Individual Grand Theft Auto releases have traditionally put players in the role of a singular protagonist. A recent report suggests the next entry in the series may provide a few different playable perspectives on the game's story, while returning to familiar territory with its setting.
Yesterday's announcement of Rockstar's latest provided nothing more than a logo, but citing a "source familiar with the game," Kotaku reports the game will purportedly use Los Angeles as its city of inspiration and will feature more than one protagonist. It would not be the first time Rockstar turned to LA for ideas, as the West Coast metropolis loomed large as a clear muse for the fictional California microcosm of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
While GTAV could be the first title in the series to tell its primary story through multiple characters, the idea isn't entirely unprecedented. Grand Theft Auto IV focused on the story of Niko Bellic, but subsequent expansions depicted Liberty City from the viewpoints of two more characters. The Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories PSP games also returned to cities from the main console versions of the series, but with new characters driving the story.

This is not the first suggestion that GTAV could return to an LA-inspired setting. In March, reports linked a casting call for voice roles in an interactive project codenamed "Rush" to Rockstar's next game. Those listings described a motley crew of California characters, including the return of GTA: San Andreas character James Pedeaston.

Whatever the setting, it's likely to be revealed soon. The first GTAV trailer is set to be released November 2.
