Nowadays if you get something highlighted by English news channels first thing I'll check is authenticity, next whom does this news benefit? Especially if its NDTV, Republic, CNN IBN, Times Now etc. Also secondary news sources like Postcard news, Swarajmag, Junta ka reporter, Wire.in, Scroll.in etc.
Just think whom does a news benefit? Is it their political masters?
I rely on print media still, apart from regional channels, for slightly less unbiased reporting.

Why no political party is running for elections promising that they'll lift cow Slaughter ban? You need to respect popular sentiments if not the rule of law in most states banning a cow Slaughter. Personally I don't have anything against anybody eating anything, but if you are eating it just to irritate my religious beliefs which will be a bit unacceptable.

I don't know since when secularism started meaning that we have to follow and respect the choice of the majority.
Secularism used to mean that everyone is allowed the freedom to practise whatever religion they want. It never meant that people have to stop doing what they want because it offends other people's religious beliefs. I never felt the need to not eat pork because it might offend someone, so I should also not have to feel the same way if I want to eat beef or for that matter anything.
It' such a shame, that there is no religion which bans eating Karela. [emoji14]
Actually, when it was decided that we will be a secular country, it should have been decided that there will be a uniform civil code, something which we should still strive to achieve now.
It's such a shame that even today we practice and preach civil procedures based on age old teachings of religions. The civil guidelines described in the old scriptures were designed for different times and should be updated according to the present situations.
Why can't people realize that the texts that which we mindlessly revere were just the laws of the land of those times. So why can't we just follow the laws of the land of our times.

On a serious note, I have been personally very scared of what the future might hold if the present situation worsens, considering I am going to start a dairy farm soon. The safest bet seems to join the local chapter of the so called Gau Rakshaks especially considering that we would soon be getting a BJP government installed in my state.

I was born in a Hindu family. I practice no religion apart from being forcibly made to follow some rituals because my grandmother was very religious. Since my father passed away last year, I haven't followed a single so called 'tradition' that Hinduism dictates, since then as I don't have to appease anyone anymore. Instead of going to Haridwar and getting looted by the greedy priests, we have been sponsoring the education of a girl child in my father's name as I feel that that will be a more fitting way to remember my father than give Bhoj to 110 priests.
Religion has since long been converted and convoluted by the so called 'keepers of religion'. They saw the power they had over the common sheep-folk and have since then used it to subdue people and meanwhile themselves get rich.
The real saints, whether it was Jesus, Mohammed or our many Rishis have been few and far between and certainly very very few in our age.
Religious wars have always been fought by false idols and if we can't see that even today, then it is a big point of shame for our race.
True religious leaders have always shunned violence and worked for the betterment of the common people.
China has no religion and they also try to quash any religious sentiments that seem detrimental to the good of the society. They follow the words of their philosophers but they are not foolish enough to take them to heart. When they realized that their population was getting out of control, they didn't hesitate to put in place a policy, no matter how autocratic it seemed at that time, that tried to control the problem.
In my view, apart from acting as a ray of hope in bad times, religion has no practicality in a modern world like ours. Religion, was always a civil code that was in tune with the times when it was written. Apart from the moral teachings, it shouldn't be taken as something set in stone and the people should decide on what the current civil code should be and keep updating it with time for the betterment of the society.
