I'm quite surprised I haven't seen one of these threads already. Looking at the biggest flagship phones for this year (till now, and perhaps for the rest of the year from both HTC and Samsung), I'm looking to buy one of them. I simply don't know which one to pick.

- I love the HTC One design, though Galaxy S4's compact shell is great as well.
- I like Sense quite a lot, TouchWiz is okay. But it's the added Software tweaks by Samsung that make the experience quite amazing, if I am to believe the adds.
- The Galaxy S4 simply has a much better camera than the HTC One.
- The Super AMOLED display has it's advantages (Daydream, pure black) but the SLCD display is gorgeous as well.

As you can see, I'm pretty messed up here :D. Don't know what to do. Don't want to end up buying an UMI X2 (or a rumored Micromax Canvas A120) or something. Why would I do that?
- Priced around 15k
- 1080p display
- Quad core
- 2 GB RAM
- 13 MP cam
- Android 4.2.1 JB

Is it Worth Spending 35k-42K on a MOBILE PHONE?
i am moving back in favor of NEXUS 4 @ 24k.
what these two devices can do (in terms of hardware ) which NEXUS 4 can't do?

as far as graphic is concerned ...i think all of them have Adreno 320.later ones have a revised version of same graphic chip.
and as far as processor is concerned, later ones contains same krait 300 optimized and revised hardware version with increased clock frequency.also the RAM support in later is LPDDR3.

Apart from increased screen resolution and minor hardware improvements(camera, processor, graphic etc)(I AM A NEWBIE pardon me if am wrong) i can't see any big advantage to spend 40k of hard earned money on a mobile device.
everything is pretty much same.there is no LTE for India at present.

There are two types of users :-

1.Those who buy phones which look good.
2.Those who buy phones which perform good, have features and good service (which HTC doesn't have at all).

So it's simple, those who buy phones by looks will always suggest Sony/HTC, those who want awesome features with normal looks and good service will suggest Samsung....

I don't see even 1 good reason to buy a Sony phone, ever..

Only personal opinion but would say iPhone does fulfill both these criteria ? Strictly my opinion. Forget the android vs iOS here. I am talking about respective categories.
I am sure they look very good (although I like glossy iPhone 4/4s better than 5) and many people buy for status symbol.
iPhones surely perform well in their whatever restrictive way they can, all apps works awesome. And apple service is already known good.

iPhone usage is completely different.

You can't compare, it's like comparing apples with oranges (the fruits).

There are people who prefer iOS, if op is for that then would prefer an iPhone over HTC One Any day. But if you compare iPhone with S4 in terms of features, s4 wins. HTC is not counted in this coz htc = 0 features.

But only talking about looks, that is the cover of the book bit not what's inside it? Then XZ looks like a black glass slab, iPhone looks ok, no big deal compared to iPhone 4S, htc one actually looks more towards the design of iPhone.. It's more like iPhone backwards.. S4 is nothing new.. Just a tad modified pebble design.

Further I'd add and make it more simple.. If the user is Flashoholic and wants a device with good development then, narrow it down to HTC One and XZ(just coz of Sony aosp project). But this doesn't mean samsung is that pathetic when it comes to development, just that the way samsung phones and hardwares are built, they are not open source, their codes are not dev friendly so it delays everything. Like there is project butter on it but not the way it's there on other oems aosp roms.

Nexus = only for vanilla android lovers, no features, no gimmicks, no oem themes and environment.

Nexus = Flashoholic users. Advanced users. Not that good for end user.

Nexus = will never get gimmicky features of Samsung or other oems.

Nexus = no sd slot, no fm radio (although fm isn't there in S4 too)

Nexus = not as good camera.

Nexus = 0 support in India since it's not officially launched here.

Nexus = bare phone and use it that way.

Oem branded phone = like a fully pimped car that's been pimped from its factory and ready to rock out of the box.

These days features are kinda over shadowing vanilla android, coz of these gimmicky features, people on Samsung actually don't want to flash aosp based roms coz doing that, they'll lose all the gimmicky features which actually look gimmicky but are useful (except for some).

Looking at the speculations and rumors the Nexus 5 seem Damn interesting and gives an indication that android is getting big time into camera quality and stuff. Nikon cam lense, 1080p 5" display.. Seem pretty much interesting even though I take it as a pinch of salt.

actually i must rephrase it(TYPO :p) ---in terms of hardware instead of software.what nexus 4 can't do which these devices can do.(KEEPING ASIDE SOFTWARE TWEEKS).i can't see the point of spending 40k for gimmicky software features.i think its worth waiting to see if google come up with some good GUI which satisfies both developers and end users and the hardware in next version of NEXUS .also if they can actually keep the price low for such a device as one of the reason the NEXUS 4's success was it's REASONABLE PRICE.
i would like to add, touchwiz is easy to use and i like it.

Care to elaborate a little? What useful feature on a samsung phone would you miss in a Sony/HTC

I would say there's a lot of difference in hardware too when comparing sgs4 and nexus 4. Take it's cam for example.

Plus end users think different. You know, check the sales of Samsung galaxy nexus had in India that too in grey market, is near more superior than Lg nexus 4 here.

You know what people say? No ways nexus 4, it's made by LG. That's ridiculous.

Plus , no one prices stuff like samsung , here you go !

Let's all agree on one thing, the prices for these phones are not justified one bit. They simply don't have such new earth shattering features than warrant their 41k sky high price.

30k would be another thing altogether.

If I don't manage to zero in on anything, I might as well buy a 14k phone and use it for 6 months

Looks tastier and tastier by the day. I can literally throw the phone away if I use it for a year. But it would really be a nice stop gap if I'm to wait for say, the Nexus 5 or Nexus X.

What? Do you guys now want these phones priced below 20k? Go buy some MMX or Umi phones (with the sh*t quad core mediatek processor, poorly calibrated screen inside). I will say, these are not priced bad at all.. Both the phones have awesome hardware. I would love to pay that amount for flagship phones. You will end up with a top notch hardware in your palms.. PEACE.. :-)

If you can afford iPhone 5. These phones are anyday better than iPhone 5.

The problem is, people keep complaining about price and end up buying that phone only :D

The absurd pricing whether the phone deserves or no.. Is completely marketing and sales strategy.. Even Nokia followed that. Can't complain the companies either, our great Country also plays an important role.

Even at 42k, S4 is already a hot piece of cake.

I'm still asking you guys to give these budget phones a chance. I found the Micromax Canvas HD a pleasure to use (although I didn't like the display much. There's something off about it).

That's what these companies want you to believe. That 40k is very cheap for the awesome hardware and the gimmicky features. Else how would they convince the gullible people to buy overpriced phones. Also if one ends up putting a custom ROM which removes the gimmicky features then it is totally absurd to pay this price,
In fact considering ROM development before buying a phone is in itself stupid and screams that one totally ignores how good or bad the stock OS is and most importantly one is not wise if seeing all gimmick features and throwing 40k for the software and then ending up with custom rom. Rather buy nexus for 60% or so for the price.

Using for a limited time for demo sort of and then using everyday is different, also you would be frustrated when something goes bad and your canvas will sit in the useless service center for extended period of time.
