In response to letmein's query; " Heard they stopped listing items on ebay through 'request a quote'. Anyone know why?"
What conflict of interest?
Thru ebay, the consumer has some recourse. We are essentially powerless when paying directly. It took them a month to deliver RAM from Newegg, after paying directly. One of these days, will post details.
Of course, not going thru ebay saves them 5%, 1% for ebay and 4% for paisa pay.

Leaving aside Duties and Fees, what is their direct $ conversion rate for shipping within US:huh:
As for iPod Touch 8gb(229$),they quoted me Rs.11220 thats a conversion rate of 1$=Rs.48.9 while for iPod Touch 64gb(399$),they quoted You Rs.16875 that makes a conversion rate of 1$=Rs.42.3:S

^ The duty and fee part depends on the item. For music players etc the duty is very high. I got a quote recently for a $100 Enclosure and the duty and fees came to only Rs 750 although the shipping cost was about Rs 1350 as it was a bulky item.
The duty and fee also includes the 17% Fuel Surcharge and an additional 10.3% service tax on the full shipping price too.

for an ebay.com product, there is a probability that iccworld will quote you an amount less than
listed price on GEB. seemed to be happening with lotsa products going by the listing of i2cworld on ebay.
so in order to protect their interests, ebay seemed to have clamped down on iccworld leading them
to remove ebay listings and introduce their own payment gateway.

an interesting observation:
for the same product, i got different dollar to rupees conversion ratio after adding
postage and customs
1. for a quote from staples.com : 56.4 rs/$
2. for a quote from ebay.com : 60.5 rs/$
2. listing on GEB : 65.15 rs/$
