I have to say this out loud:
After sitting for nearly 4 hrs eating up all the news on it last night (live) and today morning, the iPhone 4 is a disappointment.
+ves
1. The hardware is f*ing awesome. No doubt about it. The design, the metal, the glass, the slimness, the screen itself, gyroscope, and the quality of construction. Wow.
2. The battery life is brilliant and might just be the biggest reason why I might still consider it.

1. The 326dpi resolution is over-rated, camera quality is matched by the best in the business, video-calling through Wifi only is so sad it ain't funny, multi-tasking is still OK, and a whole lot of other features which are already available in similar phones 6 months back (Nexus One, Droid, and now Evo 4g)
2. Basically, the phone is *at par* with any high-end Android phone and adds a gyroscope and sexy design. But the screen is smaller than any high-end phone. 3.5" is so 2008. :|
3. The price?!?! What were they thinking? $700 is more expensive than even the Evo 4G! This is simply
the most expensive high-end smartphone to buy! If this was $450-ish, I would have bought it without a blink.
4. Why is social media support still so sad? Where are the widgets? Where is my customizable home-screens with Facebook walls and Twitter timelines? And of course, NO Flash!
My opinion: I own an iMac and I love the iPad, I am not a fanboy nor a hater. I run Mac, Android
and Windows through the 16hrs I am awake everyday. But the iPhone 4 disappoints me because I don't see any
true innovation in this much awaited flagship phone. The hardware is at par or slightly better than phones already on the market, in 6 months time there will be tons of phones bettering it. The only real stand-out points are design, quality and battery life but the software, social media and internet is where the heart of any great smartphone is today - and I don't see any of that with this launch.
It almost feels like seeing a Sony or Nokia launch. Great materials, quality construction, reliability (not entirely Sony!) but no true innovation anywhere.
Apple products never succeeded on spec-sheets (Macs were always "lower powered") but were always awesome at the final product - the software. This launch focuses so much on hardware specs (Retina Display? Seriously?)!
Ah well. At the end of the day, I know it'll sell well. The only reasons I won't buy it are the price and the lack of proper "home-screens" (why I should be looking at apps only? :/).
I believe the next one year is going to be a test for the Apple brand. Android is going to leap-frog in terms of software development and hardware launches, Win 7 is going to launch and Apple will have only the iPhone 4 for the next 365 days at least. Unlike the world of Macs vs PC, the number of users for smartphones are much higher and choices aplenty, so choosing an iPhone just because it is "cool" and "sexy" will not be enough.
Cheers!
