An analysis of the new unlimited plans with a few old ones.

monthly service charges - 150 (minimum rent plan. incoming only)
service tax - 10%.
Edu. cess - 3% on service tax.

*495 is a combo plan which includes rental amount.
**Bandwidth is the total data you can theoretically download in 31 days*24 hours with 5 Sundays.
Assumed that speed available will always what is mentioned. MTNL mentions the speed as "upto" X Kbps for the new plans which is not a guarantee. In their tests during April sundays, many were not getting the promotional 2Mbps speed. Lets hope their contention ratio is better than the competition.

I am on the 999 plan and will probably switch to the 888 plan.

@pr0ing...nicely done. Me too currently on the 999 plan and will be switching to the 888 plan. It will be cheaper, plus the speeds are wayyy better so overall good value. I called up 1500 yest and the lady said to call after a few days as the new plans are not yet available.

Just called them and changed the plan..Said will be done in 3 days..And for billing i will be charged according to 999 for 21 days and 888 for rest of month. :)

sounds great.i am currently on Airtel 4 Mbps plan and it sucks. i cross my 25gb limit in 3 days if i dwld stuff :(please share the speeds here :)

I share the same concern. However, bear in mind that the April Sunday 2Mbps was being provided to all the ADSL subscriber base in Bombay. So that's a lot of people we are talking about out here. That would obviously choke their overall bandwidth. This, on the other hand, is limited to people who subscribe to these plans. So the load might relatively less. Let's hear about it from the people who have currently subscribed to these plans.

Ok called up 3 days back to change plan and now they say to call again on 1500 but i'm not at home during there working hours so how can i call them from mobile ? And i guess plan change would happen only at start of month

^ I think it's 22221500, I am going to call from mobile as there's terrible disturbance on the phone line since last week. Wont be able to hear a thing. :(

I had a question to ask. Suppose for the month of may you were on plan X. Now you shift over to the new plans as mentioned on this thread. So for the month of may you bill would be charged according to which plan? Because normally the change of plan takes place on the 1st of every month, but some people in the last page said that theur plans would be changed in 2-3 days.. So how would the billing be done for this month of May? As per plan X or as per new plan you just shifted.

it would be done as follows

let total no of days on first plan be x and on second plan be y such that x+y= no of days in a month

thus bill amount will be

(x/30)*cost of first plan +(y/30)*cost of second plan

where 30 is assumed to be the no of days in the month

Well just called up from mobile and they said u have to call from the respective landline for change of plan.

Am still not sure if all with 888 or 1333 plans will be shifted to 2Mbps at 10PM everyday........ cause thats a lots of connection to upgrade for a system everyday......

Can anyone having UL plan for the month of April confirm tht they were getting 2Mbps frm 12AM on Sundays for tht month????

I am on 849NU and my ping across EU is arnd 140-150ms for 2Mbps........ but when I was on 1Mbps 999UL I use to get only 280-300ms....... so if I opt for 1333UL I would hav high pings during the day and low during the night.... but if the server doesnt switch my conn to 2Mbps at night then its going to be slow net all day which is unbearable coz of so much online gaming I do.......

I still think the plans are not so awesome !

The 555 one is the only good one for people who want unlimited internet at lesser price , but c'mon all the others are not that good .

666 - why would any 1 pay around 120 buks just for doubling the speed on sunday which also im sure wont be 2mbps , itll just be around 1.5-1.6mbps .

888 - The most worthless plan , my current plan is 512mbps unlimited with 100rs calling value free , paying 888 + 150 (for phone with 0 free outgoing minutes) , i.e around 500 rs just for doubling speed at night , and the sunday 2mbps thing .

1333 - again idiotic as the customer will have to pay 333 + 150 = around 600 (including taxes) just to double speed at night and sunday as he can get unlimited 1mbps at 999 and get free calls too .

In 888 plan u get 2mbps at night as well as on sundays. So its 4 times speed at night, not double.

Just got call from MTNL that my plan has been activated.But i m still getting 1mbps on speedtest..Will check it later in sometimes.

what is your current plan and are you from Mumbai? these plans are for Mumbai mtnl customers, there is no use comparing it with plans from other cities. I am confused as you keep mentioning free talktime/minutes which is not available here.

As for getting actual 2Mbps speeds on sundays, my current plan is 1Mbps and I am consistently getting said speeds. Their contention ratio is also the best among their competitors so I am positive that they have plenty bandwidth to spare if there is an influx of new users. If there are too many customers shifting to the new plans then they can freeze the plans too as they have already done with a few older plans.

you just cant beat MTNL as far as plan rates and conditions go, also some people experience problems and I hope that it might go soon as MTNL's Brain (Management) has started to function.
