Nokia Lumia 800 - Heavy Pricing ?

Its not a case of who knows, it is known that Samsung will showcase the S3 at MWC 12. Not super excited about it though coz its predictable. Increase the RAM , increase the screen size < 720p this time > , double the cores and there you go :)

Now things will get interesting if sammy dumps TouchWiz..

However MWC will be interesting as MS would showcase Apollo for the first time. Google should also detail Jelly Bean.

Anyways.. we're going OT here :)

Saw and played around with the phone today and whattaay-phone. The display is simply fantastic. Haven't seen that smooth a phone UI until now. The phone does feel premium especially when seen against the 710.

Still, 26.3k is a start. I think Lumia 710 needs to hit 15k and Lumia 800 the 20k mark to make a real impact.

Not gonna happen , not yet anyways. The N8 has held its price and from what i know about the sales .. the 800 too is a hit. Not gonna dip down that low soon.

I was planning to go for Lumia 710. But seeing this (800 @ 26K) - I'm gonna rethink. And probably wait for 1/2 months.

Brian Klug, AT has come up with a very good review - AnandTech - Nokia Lumia 800 Review - Nokia's Brave New Foray into WP7

The Lumia 800 is indubitably the best Windows Phone hardware out there right now. When people previously spoke in hushed tones about wanting Nokia to make Windows Phones, the unspoken reasons for wanting a Nokia WP7 device were a few notable features - a camera without compromises, hardware build quality that’s unique and solid, Nokia’s attention to detail, and Nokia's existing market share and ability to get those devices to market.

I have nothing but praise for the physical build quality of the Lumia 800, and it's really that attention to detail which puts the Lumia 800 squarely in the lead, at least in my mind. The competition has similar or identical specifications on paper as well (the same 1.4 GHz MSM8x55 SoC, 8 MP camera, 512 MB of RAM, e.t.c.), so it's in these ancillary features that Windows Phone hardware differentiates itself from the pack.

The Lumia 800 does have a few places where it stumbles, however. The aforementioned charging and battery situation is a notable issue that represents a considerable oversight, and I find myself wishing that like so many other Nokia devices the phone shipped with pentaband WCDMA instead of two tri-band variants. Having an internal battery is another point of contention, though it’s hard to judge how good battery life will be after Nokia has patched the power management IC firmware.

Been in love with this device ever since I saw this on display at the Nokia outlet at Oberoi Mall, Bombay. :P

Read the AT review, and it does sound pretty fair one. Some of the reviews I see here n there are either very dissed out or go ga-ga over it, both of which I find no reason to like. The device is pretty amazing, but yes it does have it's shortcomings (which device doesn't?).

For the battery etc, the January update should fix it. I also read somewhere that Nokia intends to push the default call/music/speakerphone volume of the device even further in an update, and to some extent it is required (though the current buffed up volume is quite okay in my opinion).

I am hopeful though. If this is a sign for the next things to come, I'm pretty sure all of us are having our fingers crossed.

Come on, Nokia! Bring us more options!! Bring us back the old days!!

Can't wait for the battery update to be pushed out.. lets see if it improves mine even more. Already get over 24 hours of standby with loads of push services enabled , emails all day long !

Honestly , can't say i've enjoyed a Nokia device this much before. The hardware quality alone makes it worth the cost to me. The fact that everything works like it should is great as well. Now this is not an Android device.. lets not compare the two , WP7 however serves my needs very well.

it's how the file structure is maintained, you do not have access to it (i am not talking about unlocked ones here). The only phone to have memory card expansion was the samsung focus and it forms the memory card in such a way that you won't see the memory card in your PC or other device (only an old nokia N series mobile can detect it).

To get the memory card detected in teh focus, you will have to hard reset it once and it recognizes the same at bootup.

dont worry mate. like all nokias, its just a matter of 1-2 months that it'll drop to below 19k

I am a Android user since 2 yrs now... currently using SGS2

few days back i got a chance to play with Lumia 800 for 5 mins... I must say i was blown awsoluay with the smoothness the OS had to offer.. absolutely loved it.. just hope we get sufficient apps like iOS and Android..

agree with many here SG2 still lags a bit here and there... but nothing comes close to the way we can customise our OS like Android...

also agree with OP that the pricing is very heavy.. 25k would have been perfect

wow didnt know it was so hard to break the case..

i am sort of relieved now..
