You need to see it as a fun comic book movie. They have basically stuck with the comic characters as it is.
No messing around, no making them looks better morally or ethically at all.
Close your brain, and watch

^ Actually that was what I was expecting. A totally colorful over-the-top burst of awesomeness.

In actuality, it was just a very awkward little teen movie. It had its moments of brilliance like the Hit-Girl slaughter scenes but even those weren't very well choreographed (possibly because of the actress's age).
