This is how a Mass entertainer and blockbuster should be made. Something subtle and new in each and every scene, with brilliant technical feat.
Too formulaic, unnecessary songs and unduly long duration is a drawback. Needed better editing. Overall far better than other 200cr movies.

Chotushkone - 2014/Bengali : 7.5/10
One of the finest Indian movies. A gripping thriller, nicely presented.
Basic plot line - four directors are asked to wok together on a single movie with four different stories of their own with a common theme - Death. And those stories are awesome. Alongwith runs the main story with another strory shown occassionaly like flashback.
Acting - amazing performance from all the actors.
I would have rated more, but I wasn't satisfied with the climax. Still I would recommend it to movie lovers.
ps: I am not bengali. I understand a little. watched with eng sub.

One word...EPIC!! The director's vision and ambition was really epic and he almost achieved it. Technically brilliant with good acting as well. The romantic track was the only bummer.
Goodfellas - 8/10
Scorsese is at his best in this period Mafia crime drama with a great cast.

Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation - 6/10. A bit meh. A few funny moments and one or two good set pieces, that's about it. Ghotocol was better. And so much product placement!

^^ Its got raving reviews everywhere!!. One thing is certain to me: Cruise movies hardly flop. Atleast, i don't recall any. And MI has to be the only series that has been all blockbusters.

Well, one shouldn't go by any reviews because there's no saying whether your opinion of a movie will match that of the masses &/or critics.
I only read/watch reviews after I've seen a particular movie. It's mostly to see why others have liked a movie which I haven't. & more often than not, they seem to be singing praises about aspects that I felt actually failed or were average.
I usually give a rating here in the hope that there might be someone else who feels similarly about a movie. That would just help with the feeling that I'm not the only one who felt the same & consequently that I'm not just a cynic or simply hating for the sake of it.
I've often questioned myself over whether I'm hating on it simply because it's fashionable to go against the popular opinion. The answer, of course, is that I simply have different tastes or expectations.
My other hope with providing a rating is that it'll spark some discussion about the merits or de-merits of the rating. But people here are too civilized to try & foist their opinion on something as subjective as movies,

There have been many widely acclaimed movies which I personally felt were nothing but over-hyped - Avatar & Gravity, to name a couple. They were all mega-blockbusters.
The success of a movie at the box office is not a barometer of how good the movie is. Especially now, when just about any big budget movie rakes in the moolah due to the hype generated & because folks don't have anything better to watch.
TL;DR - Reviews don't matter. You may very well be an outlier.

I agree wholeheartedly. It all depends on the person's taste. Just made on observation about the reviews. I probably will love the movie(its my kind of movie )

Compared to those, Rogue Nation felt very cliched and paint-by-numbers.
Snow Piercer was the best of the lot IMHO. EoT came a close second. Too bad neither did too well at the box office.

It wasn't marketed well. Didn't get a lot of attention prior release. So, naturally people didn't know about it.

Read an article on Polygon about this. Apparently, it didn't do too well in US but if the worldwide collections are considered, it was a good grosser. But I guess the studios don't make that much on overseas revenues comparatively but still this can't be dubbed as an underperformer. BTW, I loved it.
Drishyam : 8/10 : A worthy thriller.
First 30 minutes were a bit slower till the actual plot starts. But post interval it was really thrilling.
On acting part, of course it's superb from both Ajay Devgn and Tabu (+ Rajat Kapoor), but also awesome performance from other actors. No complain on the direction part either. Well executed.
The plot has a similarity with the Japanese bestseller Devotion of Suspect X (by Keigo Higashino).

But limited to certain aspects only - like both stories moves around the dates of the incident, alibis are 'created', protagonists anticipates police's actions and plans accordingly etc. But climax is totally different.

Agree on everything. Shriya Saran looked miscast though. In fact, the elder daughter acted far better.
