Reliance Jio Rollout

Can we port our numbers to jio? Was thinking of making use of the samsung jio offer, with my Note 4.
Not right now. Every 2nd out 5th mobile user is willing to port in to Jio as soon it launches to all.

Right now with Note 4, you can get a Jio sim.

Users will have to provide their personal details like ID and address proof on MyJio app. A coupon will be generated which the user will have to show at any of nearest Reliance Digital stores or Xpress Mini stores along with the necessary documentation to get the free Jio sim card. To verify the claim, users are required to call 1977 after they have inserted the new Jio sim card and then go to the MyJio app to activate the offer.

Intelligent strategy. :cool::cool:
I'm waiting to throw my LYFless Flame 5 in sewerage :spitoutdummy:[DOUBLEPOST=1468769658][/DOUBLEPOST]But on a second thought, it's doing an absolutely decent job of being WiFi hotspot in short range and USB tethering, so maybe I'm just excited to have the independance of having all this bandwidth at the disposal of my iPhone... Greed you see.....

RJio customer service sucks.

Bought handset on July 13th.
Activated on July 14th. Speed at home 20Mbps DL and 3.5Mbps UL. Good enough. Hotspot worked fine, call quality was decent.
Data stopped working on July 16th throwing an error message. Called CC, they said the unlimited 3 months data isn't activated (initial quota is 2GB) and will be done in 24 hours.
Its been more than 30 hours and nothing has happened despite calling CC twice. Haven't even received a SMS with ticket number.
This sucks. Anyone else faced this issue? Potential buyers beware. Location: Chennai. Handset: LYF Flame 2

So very shortly the unlimited preview is coming for iPhone users too !!
iPhone 6 onwards...

@cyberwarfare Maybe you would not need to buy the device then!

Additionally, the Wind 4 is apparently discontinued and replaced with the Wind 1 for the time being (its an upgrade on all aspects except battery). An upgraded Wind 4 is supposed to be launched, but its again hearsay. More new Lyf models incoming.

Have not experienced this so far on any of the devices bought by me. Did you buy this from my contact? If yes, I will put a word and check.[DOUBLEPOST=1468772357][/DOUBLEPOST]

He didn't contact me after that. He said he was from Mumbai whereas I needed the device in Chennai. Bought it from neighborhood Reliance Digital Mini. I will keep the thread updated in case there is a resolution.

Other Jio owners, in case you have faced similar issues please let me know how you resolved it.

The cinch obviously is that this is talking about unlimited free internet. They might not even come close once the actual operations begin. Secondly the Jio apps are notorious for their "data collection". Most of the apps run in background and you could end up 100s of MB data which actually have not been used. Not sure what would happen in a commercial operation.

In android world, where the philosophy is no exit buttons, which apps "don't" run in the background? saavn, subway surfer, whatsapp, FB, gaana, paytm, mobikwik -- the list is endless. All are in a queue to fill up your notification bar, so blaming just Jio apps is unreasonable. A more scientific way would be to monitor the data usage in settings> apps. In apps you can monitor which app has used how much data. If you haven't used Jio apps and still they are using 100s of MB of data, then, you might be on to something

You are doing an apple to oranges comparison. AFAIK Jio apps, at least on LYF phones, are set to startup on reboot. These are not "exit" button thing. I remember reading on IBF back in May the Jio apps were expending too much data which was showing up in My Jio. And as I said things might change or apps might be optimized during commercial operations. Still can you confirm what is the idle usage of the Jio apps, if you have a LYF phone?

I have not compared any thing. we too have installed Jio apps on non LYF phones. While I agree they are not upto the standards of other apps of same Genre, they do not consume excess data in background. You should read up on "RAM free is RAM wasted" in android

Huh? So comparing data usage of saavn, subway surfer, whatsapp etc with apps integrated into the phone OS ie the Jio apps on LYF is same? And then what has RAM anything to do with it?

Let me repeat and expand on what I have said. I have read back in May about My Jio showing 100s of MB used even in downtime. I don't know what that is all about. It could very well be Jio doing an extensive data collection or doing stress testing, who knows. Given the network was/is in testing phase and there is free data being given the situation does look likely. There have been multiple updates on the Jio apps so things could have been removed/optimised. So this might not affect during commercial operations. That said, this number could have been reported as part of the "26 GB" per user in the article.
