N3 might not be worth it for a N2 user but it certainly is for an S4 user. Course once you get over the little size difference that is.

I'm hearing how it does not heat up as much as the S4 did.

That review does highlight the problem Samsung has been having - TouchWiz.
It eats up any hardware thrown at it and still wants more, its UI could use an overhaul too.
Usually, things do improve after a couple of firmware updates but then they get worse as more TouchWiz features are added / ported from newer phones (at this point most people turn to custom ROMs).

It's simple to get rid of all the bloat ie. TouchShit UI and install custom recovery followed by the custom rom of choice.
Phone will never ever lag again.. i prefer stock aosp for the best experience.

I know some people will say why spend 50k first and then install a custom rom and all that but above advice is not for those types.

If samsung gets time from dishing out a new android device every week of the year, they can put together a team to see what is wrong with the TouchWiz UI on the backend front and see how they can optimize it to run gracefully and not stay resource hungry.
Just putting additional hardware to solve the issue is a classic mistake. Here where I work, we are told to tune our code to see that it performs better, we don't go out to client and tell him to purchase additional processing power or RAM for that.

@Nalin
That advice is probably applicable only yo 0.0005% of the consumers who frequent forums and are technologically sound to understand the custom ROM and stuff.

PS: I own android device myself, albeit an old one but with custom Jelly bean ROM (the phone came with Froyo).

I agree that with that @raksrules , just see miui for example i mean the way they have optimized it. Both miui and touchwiz are running on top of android and difference is day and night.
It's not like it doesn't have features or anything but one can appreciate it after using aosp even and they give like weekly updates. MIUI is on par with stock android if not the better one.
Lol i have only praises for this company. Optimization is not hard you see but samsung focus their resources on totally different things and they are nailing it in their own way.

I think they should have given choice to customers to pick snapdragon versions with stock android so that it can get updates straight from google,

Completely agree with @raksrules but shame such is the scenario with Android handset makers, I prefer samsung because of their brand value, A.S.S, the amount of support on XDA. Other companies like LG, Sony, HTC have locked bootloaders which in itself is a Pain in the Head. Region code locking is a new issue which is affecting Note3 and is going to affect all the samsung flagships like N2, S3, S4 alike http://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/09/27/samsung_galaxy_regionlocking_saga_gets_murky/ through a software update.

Official price down to Rs 47900 just a week after launch. Going by the current scenario by diwali it might just settle down around the 45 figure (officially). Trying to hold up my purchase till the same time ~ 5S / N3 / One max depending on availability.

Samsung clearly overshot the market with a slightly arrogant pricing IMHO. With both the Xperia Z1 and the LG G2 being priced much below.. Samsung probably got too cocky in focussing or trying to keep just Apple's presumed pricing for the iPhone 5S in mind instead of also factoring their own android peers competing.

Clearly, being too early an adopter is going to hurt with their 50k pricing

carrier locks are there regardless of device, you don't get locked bootloaders when you pay full price.

Seems this has been misunderstood. It needs to be registered with a carrier in the country where it was bought. After that it can be used with other carriers any where in the world. Your register article does not confirm or refute this point.

I'm not entirely clear as to the motivation behind this and it seems like a samsung only thing for now.

Any idea when the new Galaxy Note 10.1...2014 edition is coming? Price ideas? Looking forward to that. Always loved the Note tablet, S Pen rocks with that. :D

I was under an impression that no matter what they are bootloader locked even after paying the full amount and that is the reason you don't find much support for LG phones on XDA.

There are many people who have reported that even after activating in their own region it didn't accept the other sim cards, but the situation is not clear.
read this http://www.androidauthority.com/gal...4-4-update-lock-older-galaxy-handsets-279416/
where the customer executive says that even after unlocking it, you may not be able to use it in a different region.

I don't know the reason why some models get more attention than others. It seems completely up to the whims of developers. many carrier variants fragments the effort so its harder to reach a wider audience.

Right, so it seems this remains to be clarified by samsung. None of the reasons offered so far make much sense to me.

people have been buying phones from abroad for some time now, its clear they don't get intl. warranty because of regional differences, yet people still go ahead and buy from abroad. So samsung claiming they are facing complaints does not make much sense. I don't know how bad this problem is. But one thing i can see happening as a result of this is carrier locked samsung phones get to be cheaper than the competition. Same with carrier unlocked phones. Basically Samsung gets to sell their products for cheaper in any region. They just needs to work out some deal with carriers because they are whom customers will buy service from. People are more cost conscious than specs whores. Samsung gets paid either way, its competitors have to slash margins to remain competitive. This means more vendors will push samsung because they get fatter commissions, already the case any way.

So samsung is selling a boat load of phones and carriers will subsidise it, every where. Samsung gets to increase their market share with this move. This is samsungs biggest priority. What do the other vendors do ? follow suit or not. Remains to be seen. Maybe LG might, but others will not.

Those that want to go abroad will have to get other phones. But the majority of people aren't going to be using their phones abroad, only a minority. Whether that minority can create enough of a stink to stop this is tbd.

Chainfire has released a free app to remove the region lock. Of course you need to be rooted for it to work.
