Sony Xperia S/P/U/Sola/GO Thread

@sam9953

Got your XS ? :p

Anyway let me start with my post on what you should do with your phone (not necessarily as soon as you get it)

First update to the latest firmware as I already mentioned. I'd say start exploring the phone only after installing ICS. No need to fiddle around with GB.

Once you update the firmware, give the phone 3-4 hours to settle completely. It may lag or be slow for the first hour or two.

Also, rooting doesn't void warranty. Only unlocking the bootloader does. So don't worry.

Still, you can root it the next day or later. No hurry.

Until then Install Trend Micro Longevity battery saver app.

Okay so after updating the firmware the first thing you should do is download this video in Full HD 1080p and just oggle at the beauty of the screen ;)

Sony Bravia HD Demo 1080p - YouTube

Now on to rooting.

Download THIS All credit to Bin4ry from XDA. I uploaded this only so you don't have to signup on XDA. So let me know once you've downloaded, I'll remove the link then.

To root just extract this above file with 7zip and then run the RunME.bat file and follow instructions.

Once rooted you can do a lot of things to increase your battery life. First would be to remove junk apps that you won't need. Install Root Browser app and then navigate to System/App and delete stuff like Timescape/googleplus etc that you won't use.

The next thing to do is underclock your CPU. I run mine at 800 mhz and it's quite adequate performance wise and battery life gain is significant. Also you can lower the minimum clock to 138mhz.

Don't use any task killers, just long press on home and swipe to left any app you aren't using. And anyway on the latest firmware RAM management isn't an issue. I always have 250mb+ free even during slightly heavy multitasking.

Also the extended battery feature isn't available for S that @ALPHA17 mentioned.

There's a lot more left, will tell you once you're done with the above :D

@damn
Not true buddy. Battery Life is better than GB on 6.1.A.2.45. Not just battery life but everything else is better, performance is also much smoother. It's almost butter smooth literally.

Okay stop showing off(I am green) this is the generic XPERIA thread.

Are the options for rooting the go? If so how to go about the process? Under-clocking the CPU sounds fun, battery saved, performance scaled.

What happens when you long press HOME and swipe the applications left?

Hehehehe :p

Yes it does apply for the Go as well or any other Sony device running 4.0 or up. Doesn't work for 2.3 devices though.

Just download the file and unzip it with 7zip and then run the RunMe.bat file, follow the instructions that will pop up.

As for the swiping apps to the left, that closes the apps so they are no longer in memory. Of course if you intend on using that app again in sometime and resume from where you started, don't do it. Do it only for apps that you won't be using again for sometime.

Firstly thank you so much for all the tips, you deserve some REP. Sadly I have not got my phone and adexmart says 3 to 5 days more.
I am already a member of XDA developers.
Really? Are you sure? rooting will not loose me my warranty? Thats great, will I be able to install custom ROM's onto it?
Okay what is my device? A special one or normal one? Secondly what is this usb debugging mode.
I have never heard about people underclocking their processor, anyway if it saves battery, I will do it. I will further catch up the discussion once I do all this. If any doubt, I will ask you. Thanks again.

I don't understand. Dark Star got the update at 6pm.

It's past 12PM. I don't see any update when I am checking for it. What is wrong?

I bought the phone off ebay. Is this from another region unlocked and sold here? Is that the issue? Could it be? How do I check?

Just bought an Xperia S for my sis. The phone is quite good for 28k. At least it does not look like a cheap chinese design such as galaxyS ii.
The xperia s could have been little shorter. The transparent strip & part below it eat up a lot of space. The three keys on transparent strip are actually very much dependent on the stroke position & would not respond many a times if the stroke position is even a little incorrect. Very annoying. Xperia P does not have such issue at all.
The screen is another let down. Although very sharp it does not hold a candle against the Xperia ION which has the most beautiful & natural screen i've seen on a phone. Despite being larger it didnt lack sharpness. The black levels & contrast just murdered the xperia s screen which looked washed in comparison.
I wish sony had done a better job with contrast on this phone. Xperia ION is just not worth the extra cash just because it has larger & better screen.
Also check xperia SL & didnt find it worth the extra 2k over xperia s. The SL & S are exactly same apart from the cpu clock speed.
The xperia s cost me 28k from Sony Center, Jaipur.

Here's the error that I'm getting when trying to flash

Flashed the Indian ROM. Now phone will read from India itself.

So I flashed the ROM.

1. It's buggy. Lags, random freezes

I did everything. Even factory reset after flashing ROM. Still this persists

2. Battery Draining like hell

3. Poor RAM management

hey @randomuser111 sorry for bringing this up but I felt I just had to ask this. I did a few google searches about voiding my warranty and I found out that sony phones cannot be rooted without unlocking the bootloader (I honestly don't know what it is) but I also found out that unlocking bootloader will void the warranty, as you told me previously. So the method you mentioned in the above posts, will it help me not void my warranty? Surely?
