Suggest a Budget Amp + speakers

^^ have you read the review of the norge speakers

Norge Reviews | Av max magazine

Please go through it and tell me your opinion.

Firstly I don't trust AV Max one bit, What Hi-Fi is so, so.

Secondly, as Chaos said, I don't think the cabinet quality and internal soldering will be up to the mark, Indian assembly, as always, plus Norge needs its margins too.

Having said that, you could probably have given it a second thought if it was 6k or something, not 9.5k :P

Thirdly, catch a train to B'lore, get the speakers and return, its worth it, trust me :P

I wrote to designer audio this is what I got in reply

Bah, 12k is roobish. ProFX in b'lore will certainly be cheaper, PM rio and ask him where he bought from.

^ Ohh, sorry i blanked out, my bad, Rio indeed got the 8.1 ;)

Diamond 9.1 is indeed listed at 12.5k, so by all means, that price is okay.

^^ Ok. Thanks, I wrote to Rio also.
Now I feel, 27th April is not too far, I will book it.
Instead booking it from them, I think I shoul book it through Promusicals, Chennai (I have been there and was listening to lot of other speakers, I wasted their time, so let them benifit from a sale to me)

Mano, you live in Chennai... ideally, take a Saturday morning train > test the 8.1 and 9.1 paired with the Norge 2060 > buy the combo you like better > have some beer > take the night train back to Chennai. Train tickets will cost you less than freight and octroi ;)

Once again, the 8.1 and 9.1 sounded very much alike so I recommend you hear both - I picked the 8.1 primarily because they were smaller (and still sounded great).

^ You don't need to have beer to buy speakers  j/k.

Having said that, Rio, I don't think the 9.1 would be cheaper in B'lore as 12.5k is official price. Plus he has Chennai support as well ;)

@ gmano - Nope, don't have any contacts, ask czar, he's the man !

^^ I have already pmed him few dys back, but no reply from him. May be he is keeping it as secret.
I know few contacts who can bring it from singapore but is it worth bringing it from singapore??
(there are agents in chennai who brings anything and everything from singapore within a day or two, their charge is like 20 s$ per kg, so for speakers its not worth doing it)

lol..why'd i keep it a secret...it's just that i've been out of touch with audio equipment for a while now....

anyway, here's what i'd recommend...these agents charge a per kg rate if you ask for a custom order...

However, there are certain agents who bring in relatively fast moving items in bulk (read Jamo and Polk bookshelves and they charge a bare minimum premium over Sg prices....)I can passyou a couple of phone numbers on Monday as I'm travelling this week and currently out of town....

having said that, I wouldn't be able to make specific recommendations but you can perhaps reach out to some of these guys, find out what they have in stock and then audition them yourself and/or look out for reviews

been following this thread since i was looking for a similar setup on a similar budget.

i shall be buying a divx player too for playing zee movies u see.(suggest me the best and cheapest ;) )

anyways wanted to know, could i buy a subwoofer(which one) with the warfedale 9.1/8.1 and an amp? and a what's a preamp for btw.(my audio knowledge is nil so err pls be gentle..)

@ superczar Thanks for your reply. when you are back home, give me the persons details who import speakers. For bringing things from singapore, charge is S$ 20 per kg. (one of my friend is regularly importing through them).
But speakers are about 20 kg so its not worthing doing like that. May be if we buy a high end speaker from singapore it will work out cheaper.

Called Promusicals today, they told me that I will be getting wharfedale diamond 9.1 latest by Thursday. But only Black color.
Guys I need to chose an amp now, as Norge is not available in chennai, can I go with Pulz?
50 + 50 watts Pulz is around 7k promuisical pirice, is this amp good for diamond 9.1 ?

Well, to be frank Mano, though I've checked their website and some blokes recommending it over here, I'd shy away from giving it a complete yes as I haven't heard any of their amps before.

Your best bet would be to try and hook your 9.1's (Which are confirmed already, if I'm right) to the Pulz and test the output.

All the best !

^^ promusical guys only use Pulz amps for audition, I feel they are good. But still I want to get other people's opinion about them.

I wrote to norge again, asking for any discount in amp 2060, he has revised the price, but upward revision.
From Rs. 7200 to Rs.7600 now, reason he tells is input product cost hike.
Do you guys believe this??

If you've liked the Pulz, go for it. Its a german company btw, not some local crap.

Do check the warranty and service facilities though ;)

^^ Pulz is only an Indian brand. Not German
pulz

@ yusuf, what will be the price of Yamaha/Denon lower models? can you recommend any specific models?

I've heard Pulz live, and though what they do for home and live are different, I would think that the engineering is good. I know people who've run Pulz amps, and though there aren't praises galore, there aren't brickbats either.
Having said all that, there's no substitute for actually having a listen with the equipment you're considering - unless you happen to know your ears well enough to know how things will sound together. For most non-demanding listeners, the Pulz amp should be fine, and even work decently enough (The guy I knew ran Cadence Arita speakers with them so I'm not so worried).
I would urge you to not consider the low end receivers and amps from bigger manufacturers, those are badly underbuilt, usually built to a price. You might want to give them a listen. A NAD 40 watt amp will usually be better than a Yamaha 100 watt amp, and be more expensive.
