The reality that apart from weapons, India imports huge amount of fertilizers from currently conflicted region was an eye opener. Will impact us seriously.
Moreover, Russia + Ukraine supplies huge quantity of edible oil, wheat, etc. to even countries like Egypt.

This NATO vs Russia episode will have unexpected consequences all over the world. West with all their simulations, should've been cautious enough.
Biggest loser might be EU again.

Immediate impact will be rising prices but this expected to abate in a few months.

The best we can expect is a speedy resolution. Meaning Kiev falls, and a pro Russian govt is installed.

Longer it goes on worse for every one.

I think both US & Russia get weaker as a result now. It should never have been allowed to get to this point. Under Trump things remained quiet. He did not give Putin anything.

Why are we being dragged back 30 years ? cold war 1.0 is dead and buried. We are endangering the future by not understanding the reality of cold war 2.0

Winner is China. Now they get a freehand in the Indo Pacific. How about another crack at the Indian border ? campaign season in Ladakh begins in April.

If not this year then the next.

Yeah, this is the only thing opposition can cry about.
Not everything can be dumped on the opposition when one doesn't have the answers!! If one can feel the pulse of the people on the street, he would understand. I do, and this is from their own mouth.

I even wonder which person in the world would do such bastardly act!! Segregating Indians on the basis of North-South. I mean, who even has time for this non-sense when there is war.

DISGUSTING TO SAY THE LEAST!!

Inflation is already rising. Rise in prices of oil and gas - "will hit the poor the most". Another "economic catastrophe" in the pipe line .

This is not opposition's job. Nobody is 'dumping' anything on them. Opposition is just a noise maker like the west in Ukraine.

We're the only country to have worked out a humanitarian corridor to get people out. Noteworthy.

US and the West Propaganda seems to have worked well here.
Read this thread in team bhp, anyone who knows the history of Russia, US and Nato will in no way buy what the western media is portraying.
In India IT companies and their employees in particular will always have a PRO west stance, because that's where their business comes from.

I wonder how any of this is at all relevant to what the thread was originally intended for, by the OP.

In reference to the topic of the thread, it's a little suspicious that soclal media has been flooded with pro-Ukraine propaganda — to the point of telling everyone what to think and what to feel.

The racism directed at the border towards African and Indian nationals breaks the narrative of this propaganda and perhaps it's indicative that more cracks would appear in the coming weeks.

A few in the west have recognized they're being manipulated to some extent: https://www.google.com/search?q=richard+boyd+ukraine+palestine

I get what you are trying to say but I still do not understand why it is being said on this thread unless you are implying that the topic of this thread is part of that propaganda ?

No, of course not, at least not directly. But maybe it is a victim of it.

Foreign nationals are diplomatically considered to be guests in any country that is not their own. And foreign students bring in economic relief wherever they're studying in the form of tuition fees and long term living expenses. They pay higher rent, buy more food and shop for clothes/essentials/non-essentials that otherwise no one else would have done during their years of studies.

They should have been extended courtesies and given priorities over Ukraine's own nationals, especially after MEA's initial failings.

But they were not and so it's not easy to muster up additional sympathy beyond the basic humanitarian level for a populace that has benefited from the cash flow brought in by these students but refused to help them in a time of need.

And so the thread derailed from there.

@mods now are we allowed to spread misinformation and hatemonger on this portal?
You are in the middle of a war. Everyone, including all the foreign and Indian govt representatives, is spreading misinformation.

Just enjoy the cage match between two blue eyed blond haired tribes. This is an European village fight. Other than getting our people out, we have no business spending time and energy on this stupid conflict.

It is not that simple. In a globalised, interconnected world, this is bound to have repurcussions, which India would be impacted in one way or the other.
We rely on Ukraine for urea and potash, key ingredients for our fertiliser industry. While we may look for alternative sources, there's a good chance we could see increase in prices of food items atleast, initially.
Not to mention, oil and it's cascading impact on other items.
This video shows how there will be future implications of sanctions on Russia globally.

Read the comments in that tweet and see this tweet of hers earlier in the day

Now explain what "received inputs from Russia that prompted them to tell citizens to leave the city and choose certain routes" means ;)

Humanitarian corridor isn't it. How many other countries got that ?
US and the West Propaganda seems to have worked well here.
Yeah the intel outed Russia's moves and this has helped the Ukranians but it won't change the final result.
Read this thread in team bhp, anyone who knows the history of Russia, US and Nato will in no way buy what the western media is portraying.
Not a single person predicted Russia would invade. Thought they did not discuss such topics on bhp
In India IT companies and their employees in particular will always have a PRO west stance, because that's where their business comes from.
So that's why i'm seeing comments elsewhere from NRI's apologising for India's stance. They're only looking out for their own bread.

If they have been listening to the western media then that will also play a role.

I hardly bother with foreign sources these days for this sort of news, there are so many quality domestic sources now that i cannot keep up :)

Wow! Compassion is dead.

Millions of Ukrainians are seeing their country destroyed, can't count their own dead, 13 lakhs had to leave their own country, rest are sleeping in bomb shelters if sleeping at all.

But they should concentrate on Indian students, whose country didn't vote for humanity in the UN (SC or GA), whose students got better and/or cheaper medical education in a war endangered country like Ukraine than their own country, who came knowing the full risks to a foreign country. All because

Tu jaanta hai mera baap kaun hai ?

Chinese pretending to be Japanese. Paks and Turks pretending to be Indian

Don't display the Chinese flag. Whereas Indian flag is seen in numerous places without fear.

But they should concentrate on Indian students, whose country didn't vote for humanity in the UN (SC or GA), whose students got better and/or cheaper medical education in a war endangered country like Ukraine than their own country, who came knowing the full risks to a foreign country. All because

They don't deserve to be treated like this

Guess what got those kids across the borders. Three C17's full of aid. Only then they were allowed out.

Instead of saving their lives, Ukrainians should calculate who deserves exactly what, to 71 places of decimal, and give 1 month training to each of the citizens. Who has time to fight a war, Modi uncle is taking good care of them in the UN, right ?

They don't deserve to be treated like this
Yeah, WhatsApp University obviously showing the full picture here. Indians shouting "please" so that people ignore rules. The WhatsApp University is of course explaining everything about what happened before, the exact rules, the chaos in people making the rules, the lives that can be saved by people who are making the rules if they concentrate on more important things. Like prevent nuclear war, saving everyone's lives, for example ?

I have refrained from engaging in this thread because there is no end to our bickering over domestic politics, on both sides, but since this actually pertains to geopolitics I'll bite.

India is surrounded by 2 hostile nuclear powers. Russia is a regional geopolitical power that has played a balancing role. Indian armed forces are dependent on Russian origin weapon systems and we have procurement in progress that are vital to our national secutiry

Even ignoring all that, India has no business taking sides in war initiated by Russia which was orchestrated by the west. The loss of life and livelihood is tragic and India has said so in the UN, we have appealed for peace.

So, what else should India have done in the UN?

additional sympathy beyond the basic humanitarian level

There's been war and death every single day for as long as I've been alive. You feel sympathy for the innocents and you're grateful for not being in the middle of it.

But beyond that, it's not easy when your kin and kith are discriminated against by the very same people asking for your empathy.

But they should concentrate on Indian students

The issue is racism. It was racism directed at dark skinned students and non-European foreign nationals. Lighter skinned foreign students/nationals (Europeans) were prioritized along with Ukrainian nationals.

whose country didn't vote for humanity in the UN (SC or GA)

Irrelevant, your nationality is independent of the current government of your country. Why people somehow are always forgetting this is unfathomable.

Do you not feel pride when an American decides to move to India for a job or studies or just a holiday? Or do you reject the foreigner, abuse them verbally and attack them physically, just because that American's government is responsible for the death of millions of innocents? Rhetorical question.

whose students got better and/or cheaper medical education in a war endangered country like Ukraine than their own country, who came knowing the full risks to a foreign country. All because

This is extremely disingenuous.

Education in Ukraine is not better in any way nor is it significantly cheaper. What you save on tuition/donation fees is spent on living and travel expenses.

Ukraine's GDP has been on a steady increase since 2015, they are far from being "war endangered." Assuming the length of their studies is six years or less, every single Indian student currently in Ukraine decided to travel and study there under the understanding that it was a less wealthy, but stable eastern European country.

They preferred it over Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Russia, China, Romania, Bulgaria — the list is exhaustive. There are dozens of countries that would love to have you, if you've got 20 to 50 lakhs set aside for your medical degree.

The bottom line is that Ukraine had a diplomatic responsibility towards the foreign nationals residing in their country. They honoured it for their fellow Europeans but they ignored it for Africans, Indians and other South East Asians (whose countries did vote in Ukraine's favour if you still consider that a criteria).

Back to your statement:

Wow! Compassion is dead.

How much empathy can anyone have towards a racist populace?
