Wow! Compassion is dead.
Millions of Ukrainians are seeing their country destroyed, can't count their own dead, 13 lakhs had to leave their own country, rest are sleeping in bomb shelters if sleeping at all.
additional sympathy beyond the basic humanitarian level
There's been war and death every single day for as long as I've been alive. You feel sympathy for the innocents and you're grateful for not being in the middle of it.
But beyond that, it's not easy when your kin and kith are discriminated against by the very same people asking for your empathy.
But they should concentrate on Indian students
The issue is racism. It was racism directed at dark skinned students and non-European foreign nationals. Lighter skinned foreign students/nationals (Europeans) were prioritized along with Ukrainian nationals.
whose country didn't vote for humanity in the UN (SC or GA)
Irrelevant, your nationality is independent of the current government of your country. Why people somehow are always forgetting this is unfathomable.
Do you not feel pride when an American decides to move to India for a job or studies or just a holiday? Or do you reject the foreigner, abuse them verbally and attack them physically, just because that American's government is responsible for the death of millions of innocents? Rhetorical question.
whose students got better and/or cheaper medical education in a war endangered country like Ukraine than their own country, who came knowing the full risks to a foreign country. All because
This is extremely disingenuous.
Education in Ukraine is not better in any way nor is it significantly cheaper. What you save on tuition/donation fees is spent on living and travel expenses.
Ukraine's GDP has been on a steady increase since 2015, they are far from being "war endangered." Assuming the length of their studies is six years or less, every single Indian student currently in Ukraine decided to travel and study there under the understanding that it was a less wealthy, but stable eastern European country.
They preferred it over Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Russia, China, Romania, Bulgaria — the list is exhaustive. There are dozens of countries that would love to have you, if you've got 20 to 50 lakhs set aside for your medical degree.
The bottom line is that Ukraine had a diplomatic responsibility towards the foreign nationals residing in their country. They honoured it for their fellow Europeans but they ignored it for Africans, Indians and other South East Asians (whose countries did vote in Ukraine's favour if you still consider that a criteria).
Back to your statement:
How much empathy can anyone have towards a racist populace?
