I guess many of us have bought the MP21 from focal price and guess what it does not work with our nokia phones 5230 etc. But today something happened.

I was using garmin XT and inorder to listen to navigation instructions i plugged in my MP21 and to my surprise it said..."Default Accessory...Headset" :O This means that it recongnized it as a headset. But the navigation instructions came in very low volume. But after i removed the headset and reconnected it did not show default accessory instead gave me option of headphone, lineout, music stand which shows when we connect any normal (mic less) earphones :(
Ek umeed ki kiran jaagi thi...but...

I think it is possible. I have installed this custom firmware. There, he has listed one of the mods as "music player read music only from e:/music folder. Also, see here. Mod number 9 is to "Change music player search location to "E:/sounds/My Music""

With the CW, my player doesn't seem to be listing any files other than those at e:/music.

Coming to the SPB shell, they have released a new version on 17th. It seems to use lesser ram and battery according to the change log.

Thanks for pointing that out , turns out the 5800 hack works on the 5233 too .

Need hacked phone, open4all patch applied in ROMPatcher and x-plore/y-browser to edit files/attributes.

- put this file 101ffcd2.txt to "C:\private\10202be9\"

- make it "read only" (change attribute)

- delete 101ffcd2.cre (if exists), in "C:\private\10202be9\persist" folder

- create E:\Music

- remove all previous songs from phone or make them hidden and system (to make player use new modded file you must take next steps because it caches previous library)

- restart phone

- open music player and refresh library, you will have 0 songs in player

- now put songs in E:\Music and refresh library

- put other songs anywhere on E:\ and refresh library again to see it works (you will have only songs from E:\Music showed)

I have tried it and its working . Now only files from E:\Music are displayed in the player . Also scanning is much faster since only one folder is scanned .

As always editing system files can brick your phone . I am not responsible .

guys,

can someone direct me how to load india maps into my nokia 5230,the nokia map loader does not work.

any direct links, and a tutorial would help :)

Okay does anyone have this problem, my Nokia 5233 seems to be kind of weak on the side the lock slider is there. Its soft and while typing in landscape mode it gives kind of a click click sound, do I have a defective piece ? I have been using the phone for 2 months, if I take it to Nokia Care what will they do about it ?

I am facing this issue since last couple of days. My opera mini and opera mobile are both crashing very very frequently. I guess it is due to the SPB mobile shell software.

@ h20,take it back to nokia care asap,i'm sure the slider is loose or sommething.

@raksrules, opera mini crashes :huh:

How much ram does this spb shell eat up?

I am still it is still a RAM hogger but definitely less than the earlier version which is good. Crashes in the sense that it abruptly closes down. :( Have uninstalled the app now and will observe for couple of days.

But i really love the app very much :)

I understood what you meant by the crash,i was perplexed at the reason for it do so.

By the way guys, can anyone answer my previous query on offline gps?

and also how do i recover phone memory space, its down to 1.7 mb.

I have done everything possible!,to free up space.

1.cleared the temp,cache.

2.deleted google maps.

3.even uninstalled the games that came with the phone.

4.messages in memory card.

Please do reply with a solution

Guys i too am sick of this phone memory reducing thing, I am at 18 MB and have no clue how to recover the lost space. I have about 1000 SMS messages but i am not sure that is occupying so much space. Every time i install any application on memory card, it eats some phone memory :(

I am planning to delete all SMS messages after i back them up.

Also once i tried the hard reset before backing up my phone contents but as expected when i restored back the phone contents, i was back to square one.

Please Please people suggest something. :help:

Also is there any way i can transfer all my messages from phone memory to memory card ? I mean currently available messages.

Is it safe to delete data from the C:\SYSTEM\CACHE and C:\SYSTEM\TEMP folders ? Or any other graceful way to do it ?

I am getting my hands dirty with the orange tsunami home screen. I check the screenshots on the dailymobile se page and i see that they have calendar and notes and all on homepage. I had downloaded one of those and it does not seem very much as i expected. I do not get any calendar or say the memory widget on homescreen. :S I cant find it in the pop up list (which is collapsed and we click the ^ arrow to pop up)

Is it that what comes on homescreen is dependant on what sis file we download ?

I too have installed the same screen as manu, the number 12 one, sabin kumar but i am not getting the calendar or memory widgets and have no clue how to bring them. Please suggest. Reinstalling after uninstall also retains the old layout.

Under home screen theme, i have OraTsu selected, using Orange gives me the side bar thing, which is dont like much, vodafone one does not work at all.

Edit: Did not know that the pop has 3 pages. Figured it out now. :) :ashamed:

I am not sure what do you mean by Nokia maps here :S

Ovi maps is the application that is default maps app on the phone and by nokia maps you mean, Nokia India's Map then that can be put on memory card and it occupies more than 100 MB of memory.

this is what i meant,

Nokia 5230 originally came loaded with nokia maps 2.0.(this is the nokia maps part).

On doing a software upgrade, maps applications got upgraded to ovi maps 3.0(ovi maps part).

I have downloaded nokia india maps from here

symbian underground

and applied them to memory card.

In application manager,i get both nokia maps and ovi maps.

In reality, the gps works fine if i have both, but i'm low on C: phone memory if this done,so i uninstalled nokia maps.

Now the gps doesn't work,it never catches signal even when i waited on the rooftop, with no obstruction for around 15 mins.

i hope i'm clear now.

I was able to regain about 3 MB by clearing the cache. Also i noticed that i had a 5MB song on my C: which i deleted. Then i deleted the Roller Rev 99 game as i never play that. There i gained 4 MB. Unistalled few apps which i never use and now i have around 34.5MB free but feel that still i can recover more, just not sure from where.

@srirama

I guess i would also have had to undergo the same cycle as yours wherein i have updated my FW twice and stock FW must have had Nokia maps. Mine too got auto upgraded to Ovi maps but i am able to very well use GPS on it.

Edit: I just checked in my app manager and i too have both as you and Nokia Maps is occupying 7 MB of memory and Ovi Maps 8 MB.

Isn't there any way we can uninstall nokia maps and download the nokia maps back and install on memory card instead of C: ?

@ raksrules,

Thats exactly my point too.
I also noticed that if you explictly download ovi maps for your device, and install it.
It automatically installs nokia maps too.
I need to find some solution to this,it is driving me crazy :O

^^ But i guess there must be alternate sources to download Ovi maps app right ? Not using the PC suite to download it, instead alternate websites where apps is directly available ?

@ raksrules, will do that and get back.

Thanks for the help mate, really appreciate it.

edit:

Have a look at this :ohyeah:

• Recover 5 MB of internal phone memory (for hacked phones)

Deep down in the dungeons of the Symbian system folders sits a 5 MB placeholder file called reserved.bin. This space is only used if you do an "over the air" firmware update. If you update your phone from your computer, you don't need this file and you can delete it to gain five extra megabytes of phone memory.

You'll need a hacked phone and a Symbian file manager like Active File or X-plore.

1) Make sure your phone is hacked, "caps" are switched off.

2) Use a Symbian file manager like Active File or X-plore and navigate to C:\Private\102072c4.

3) Delete the file reserved.bin.

4) Make an empty text file called reserved.bin and drop it into C:\Private\102072c4.

5) If you open "device manager" in your settings folder, the file may reappear.

^^Any workaround for unhacked phones ? Mine is not hacked and i usually sign the apps myself (using cer and key files).

Btw guys i have finally removed the SPB mobile shell app from my phone as it was indeed a RAM and battery eater :-[ But to be frank i loved the app to the core. And if they manage to optimize it even more in terms of memory management, i may go back to it again.
Here are some statistics of instance and ramblow stats after running cleanup.
First version of SPB installed -> 16MB free
Version 349 of SPB installed -> 26MB free (better memory management)
Removed SPB installed Orange Tsunami HS
with entire screen full of widgets -> 46 MB free (whopping 20 MB gain in RAM) :D
