The Nokia 5230 / 5233 Thread

Is there any workaround/solution for the GPS issue in 5230 (and may be other)

If anyone wants to test, do this

Put your phone in offline mode

Only select Integrated GPS (do not use assisted GPS also)

Now fire up maps and try to get a GPS lock.

At this point even beneath a clear sky i dont get any GPS lock but with assisted GPS on it does get, it initially connects to some positioning server (GPRS) and then pin points my location.

My concern is that integrated GPS should work without using any sort of phone network / GPRS etc

Because tomorrow if my GPRS connection goes down then i have no way to use GPS, i have observed this.

Is anyone still having a problem with opening ovi store on 5233. Mine keeps getting stuck at the loading page.

^ I was having that problem. What operator are you using? I was on Docomo and it suddenly stopped working with the Docomo Internet access point, but it works fine with Docomo Dive In access point.

the tnig is it should work without any access point, that is using standalone Integrated Gps.

@raksrules,i tried what you said,i got a gps lock,after 5 mins,and it was a wrong one,show that i was nearly 500m way from the place i was

Will try it and let you know. Thanks.
Also, do you know about a good one click facebook application something which has access to all features, like Notifications and like comments.

All the people here who have GPS issues, try this, it should work (try it outdoors only)

PS: I have deliberately kept my phone in offline mode to ensure that not even network towers are used to get a fix.

1. Go to Menu -> Applications -> Location -> Positioning -> Positioning Methods -> Select Only "Integrated GPS"

2. Now go to Menu -> Applications -> Location -> GPS Data -> Position -> Options -> Satellite Status and lets the phone get a lock. Remember this may be time consuming as it is ONLY integrated GPS and it has not assistance from AGPS (packet data) or network based (network tower data, no GPRS though)

3. Now as shown in above pic when you get a fix (denoted by some of the blue coloured bars and also GPS related statistics, leave this thing running in background and go to any of your maps application and it should get a location fix in just few seconds.
PS: When you open maps app it will say that cannot used phone network, just do a ok/cancel there, in short ignore that.

Now in order to get faster fix you can also keep the "Network based" check along with integrated, in this it will use network statistics and not GPRS/Packet data and will ensure you get a fix sooner.

Check the below screenshots (this is tried before the offline mode thing so timing is before that)
PS: Here if network based is ticked and phone is not in offline mode then when maps is fired, it will insist on connecting to positioning server, cancel this request.

Got my location on Map immediately. Even tried garmin and in that too it got fix immediately

My main aim to do all this to ensure that i am able to get GPS working on my phone without any sort of network / internet dependency.

500m is guess is ok sometimes, even google maps many a times says "your approx location witin 3000 meters and all and even sometimes as less as 20 meters) so it can change and may not give very exact location.

Please post the URL as well.

BTW my phone memory is way to down. Only ~25 Mb. Will buy a card and do hard reset asap.

I dunno if this works for 5230, but it works flawlessly on my 5233. all credit goes to ppl at PNHT for the Bluespectrum gadget but I deserve the credit for the rest.

here's the CFW and it works with the Omnia mod, so just change the HS theme to Samsung widget.
