Updated to v12.0.092 , when i tried via OTA it said no update available . But when i tried via the desktop software :

Nokia Europe - Device software update - Support

It downloaded a 119 mb update and then installed it. I forgot to take a backup before updating and thought all my contacts would be gone but thankfully all settings , contacts messages etc are intact

I guess it doesnt update OTA because update size is too large (?)

Tried updating again both OTA and using Nokia Updator but shows it is already update and asks whether to reinstall. Didn't try Europe version. Reason as per Nokia site is-

"Why can’t I get new software for my device?

Update availability is based on many things, including existing Nokia device software version, country, and operator. It may be due to one of these variables that your Nokia device isn't eligible for updates."

Guys i tried with the in-phone software update thing and it did not show me anything for the 5230. So does it really exist (a new firmware)??
The current firmware version v12.0.089 i guess is really screwed up it seems and i am facing issues while messaging, the phone just restarts and i lose my currently open message which is the most painful thing. :(
Raks, I read your post after updating my phone to the current version. The first thought I had was: "God, now I am screwed!"

But it was now been over 4 days with the new firmware, I haven't faced any kind of issues with it. The problem might be with your phone.

You can try soft reset:
*#7370# - password is 12345

Or a hard reset:

1. Switch off the phone.
2. Press GREEN + RED + CAMERA + ON simultaneously until you see the “Select Country†option.

Goes without saying, backup all the data.

Guys is there any call logging application for Nokia 5230 ?? The inbuilt call logger / timer just mentions the duration of incoming, outgoing and total calls. But i need something that can also bifurcate between how much duration a number was called / received and such information.

Guys i am really frustrated. I have a A2DP bluetooth headset and i am not able to pair it with my 5230. I tried my roomie's some nokia normal bluetooth headset but that too did not get detected by the phone. Any solution for this or have to live with this ?

Guys it seems a new software update is available. I just happened to check on my mobile for the over the air updates a it listed some version 20 for the 5230. I dont want to do it OTA so am not doing it now. Anyone who does please let us know what is good and what is not so good.

did it yesterday , hmmmm not much UI changes , but performance a bit better , battery life improved for me and autorotation is now breeze but point to note is its not hackable any more so no vodafone homescreen anymore :(

PS:its a big 126 mb file so dont do it over the air for being in safe side

^^ Thanks for the update. I am not into hacking currently so wont really matter. auto rotate is breeze means, what difference you felt ?

And yes what is this vodafone homescreen ?

I just hope the random reboots issue is solved. My phone reboots 5 out of 10 times when i am messaging :@

Do a hard reset(Red+green+power+ON) and then update to the latest firmware. Still if its not solved you gotta take it to Nokia care . I have never faced this issue even on the stock Version 11 firmware

I did not have this issue with the stock version 11 firmware but it cropped only after i upgraded to the 12 version (i think) software.

Can i take backup of all contacts, messages etc using the PC suite where it makes some nbp something file, then do a hard reset and then restore all back and get my all contents as it were before. I just dont want to loose any of my messages, apps (they are anyways installed on memory card), contacts etc.

PS: I will give this hard reset stuff a try over the weekend.

Yes u can back up everything....In fact I m doing it now before updating to 20 firmware :P

Just download the latest PC Suite (7.1) and NSU before updating.

I have a query regarding the apps installed on my 5230. All my apps are installed on the memory card. Now i am planning to backup all my phone contents, hard reset the phone and flash with latest firmware. So after this when i insert back my memory card, will my all apps be intact.

Yes you can directly go to 20 firmware. Remember to backup you phone contents before you do so to be on safer side.
