can someone please answer my query

hey guys i am assembling a new rig and stuck on making a choice for the right power supply
i was leaning towards a 850 watt unit as i intend to sli my 460 down the line

my question is should i go for a 750 watt unit or a 850 watt
the price difference between the two is quite minimum
also i am wondering that if i buy a 850 watt power supply and do not sli then will my power usage be high

the reason why i am still a bit inclined towards a 850 watt unit is because it will be future proof investment just the power consumption issue worries me

HX650 is more than enough even for the current most power hungry GTX580... And FYI the board that you are looking to buy doesn't support SLI & CFX

ud3r does support crossfire

it does not support sli

I am building a new rig. Planning to put a high end card on it within the next 2 months . My confusion is between HX650 and SS 750w .Both are in my range . I wanted a modular but will giving up 100w for modular good enough a choice . And one more thing proccy is i5 2500k and mobo is gigabyte P67A-UD3R . Will not do any SLI , will stick to single card setup.

in my opinion go for seasonic 750

it will be a future proof decision if just in case you purchase a ati card

besides a 100 watts more will never be of any harm

I think you shoud've checked the Gigabyte P67A-UD3R specification before posting here...

The board does support CFX but the problem is that ud3r's 1st pci-e slot runs at 16x mode the another at 4x mode so crossfiring two GPUs on a board like this would be waste of money... Coz 1st GPU would run at it's full potential but the second one would only have 4 pci-e lanes to work with... In simple words the second GPU wouldn't be able to perform at it's full potential..

well am sticking to single card setup does not matter to me anymore . And the combo that I can afford was available on this combo only. The problem still is that HX650 is not available :( . Checked on saturday . Sorry to be a bit dumb for that SLI comment I meant I wont opt for SLI / CFX . The only thing I missed was UEFI .DAMN! only if i had waited 5mins before ordering . And Hades the GTX580 is not confirmed completely well it 85-90% sure . And I wanted to start on maya and other 3D rendering [just a learner] .so will you suggest to go for ATi cause currently I miss the CUDA . And people am not a fanboy of either and nor of Physx :P as people generally associate it to .

People here on TE only suggest Nvidia cards coz Some applications like Photoshop, 3Dmax etc etc has support for Nvidia cards...

The problem still is that HX650 is not available

Why dont you increase your budget and grab X-760 PSU... Well if you are short on budget and dont want a modular PSU then you can consider TX650... But if you want a modular PSU only and dont wanna increase the budget then the only option left is to "Wait"...

please suggest me a SMPS around 5k any link to ebay/letsbuy etc... will do

i can save some bugs compared to local shops after discounts

Hello everyone

Corsair VX550 ~ 4.6k or Seasonic S12II 620w ~ 5k (From theITWares. He does do ebay listing on request but the price would be 6% higher due to paisapay costs!

Corsair CX400 ~ 2450 but if you are gonna add a mid-end to high end GPU in the future then buy something with more muscle like VX550 ~ 4600

Corsair VX 550 would be good, though if you'tr on a tight budget, VX 450 would do the trick also

hey i have a similar question

my config is

i5 2500

i have 3 hard disks two of 2 tb each and one of 320 gb

board is ud3r

gtx 460

8gb gskill 1600mhz ram

cooler master cm 690 with 4 fans

which of these power supply's will be the best for me

tx 650

tx750

ss750js

or any other power supply

i was initially planning to go for a something like hx750 but i think i will be over spending by going for it

i prefer something above 650 watts and of a reputed brand so as not to face any problem with the after sales service

^^

The Corsair TX 650W should fit your bill, squarely so go for it. If you don't get that go for the Cooler Master Silent Power Pro 600W.
