Akshit, just spoke to my friend who used the s/w unlock, he followed the iphone wiki procedure and it worked perfectly for him.

damn.. the people here opposing the iphone have come up wit some really lame excuses to not like the phone, A few of the classics:

5) No expandable storage... no SD card slot
What if u took some pics on ur cam and want to view it on ur phone, or want to transfer stuff from someone else's card to urs. A memory card slot would have been very convenient, not neccesarily for expandability
Damned thats wat god invented bluetooth for..!! and whn did u trnsfr stuff frm some1 elses card 2 ur phone or anything,, freakin every other mobile these days comes wit a diff kind of memory card.

Looks like you've never used an Iphone. The iphone doesn't allow data transfer over bluetooth

8) You can't play wave files, nor can you set them as ring tones.
Wait lemme check, out of the 4000 songs that i have how many r wav,??
oh right sorry, theyr all in mp3 cause thats wat the world uses these days.
Maybe you don't care about audio quality... lot of others do.

4) For the price, it better provide 3G..
oh right, we in india r so advanced that wer using 4g.!! we dont even freakin hav 3g in india yet, so yr u cryin bout it??
Its being sold in the US and 3G is everywhere.

2) I can't SMS without looking at the keypad unlike a normal phone. Lack of a physical keypad is a pain.
When was the last time u saw a pda phone?? remm somethin bout it like .. "oh yeah!! it dint have a keypad!!" thats right..

Man apple iphone haters.. u need to get a life.. !!
Good Night!!

That didn't make any sense at all to me! probably you are drunk

Umm, if I'm not mistaken, there's no "guide" per say for it yet na ?

Can't find any "Procedure" ... just a bunch of zip files ...:S

Is a Mac reqd. to unlock it using the any_sim.zip file ?

Blackberry's suck in India, and everybody knows that, so I wouldn't ever take the opinion of a Blackberry user in the US.

Why's that then.. ?[/QUOTE]

Anyone care to say why ?

Only Hutch and Airtel offer the Blackberry push service here.

See the thing is, its waayy to common in the US. I mean if your in college and don't have a Blackberry your looked down upon. So obviously people are gonna get them, get used to them and swear by them.

But they have nothing so special about them and any Windows/Symbian PDA with push e-mail support owns them left, right and centre :)

^^ The blackberry service is pretty good itself but the devices are a real letdown..

@Anish.. if ur talking abt the Exchange push email soln on Windows Mobile its a tad bit less efficient than Blackberry Internet Service.. A Windows Mobile PDA with Blackberry Connect installed would be the right candidate to own a blackberry left, right n centre :) .. Thts wat i'm using rite now..

and i always thought the keyboard on the blackberry was the best thing about it. tactile feel...goes a long way in terms of UI. Compose your work emails on the trot and no, you can't use sms-english but only the real thing.

I was taking the service provided by the telcoms for granted, push/pull etc...inter-operability with exchange *doh*..of course.

But here we have the iphone thats trying to change those rules. Not that it's the first, but let's say its taking it little further than most.

no buttons, how well does that work out ?

i admit it might take some getting used to...so instead of first impressions maybe after a few months, a more accurate picture will emerge.

However, the Blackberry Pearl and 8700 are truly a step up from their older models... very decent business phone/PDA.

Yep, even I have a Blackberry-styled app on my 990i, though I find Google's own Gmail java app to be lot faster.

On a portable device????

You can very easily reach the limits of mp3 even with a portable device and a good high sensitivity headphone such as a Grado SR60. Try listening to a Rio Karma with an SR60... you'll be shocked!

Ya i really know what i am saying. Iphone is a big let down as a phone except beautiful interface then why not get that interface of i phone in touch and get another phone. It also has a same safari web browser as in iphone.

agreed, but i'd rather listen to quality music in the privacy and silence of my living room on my home setup than get unneccsarily worked about audiophie garde music in the noise of the environs outside where i'll be using my mobile audio device
