Chandigarh isn't a city, it's a housing colony.

OMG- that was ...

The first time i passed that place enroute to Panchkula, from Delhi by road-

"Me: so is this Chandigarh? :)

Friend: nopes- Mohali.

Few minutes and some 'almost identical/effin similar' roundabouts/structures later ..

Me: is this Chandigarh?

Friend: nopes, Panchkula.

Me: Already?:O isn't Chandigarh supposedly between the 2? :S

Friend: yeah- it is.

Me. :death:"

I have never been to India gate 1, Essel world, nehru park 2 (i think its a sanctuary, somewhere around borivilli), etc.

Did you mean to say-

1. Gateway of India (India Gate is at Delhi)

2. Sanjay Gandhi National Park or Borivali National park colloquially

I've stayed for long durations in Baroda, Bombay, Hyderabad and Bangalore. Honestly I don't love any of them, nor do I hate any of them. All had their plus and minus points and honestly, there's no place that sucks the most :P.

Very true. :)

People suck in general and are the cause of all problems, anywhere and everywhere. :)

Oh well, whatever it is, we learn to adapt over time or atleast most of us.

And yeah, it's the attitude of the people that build up/destroy a city's reputation.

No point in endless rants.

IMHO, as suggested earlier, a simple poll should have have given a suitable verdict.

In Chennai people wait for green signal to move

Err...I'm probably one of the very few people who wait for the green light but then in most cases, driven forward by the impatient motorists. This is of course in the absence of MAMAs. :P

Shopkeepers here will quote you a price which might be 5x or 6x of the Original 'x'. Bargain skills are a 'must' to shop here in delhi.

5-6x ?
20% or 50% more i can understand but how can they get away with five or six times more

Yes, thats precisely what I meant.

I'm trying to find out what the breakdown of crime is for the cities but other than one general figure for IPC there is none ?

The figure on its own does not tell you that much :(

My Bad..... :(

Anyways, I would like to post this question to all those who have said that their own city or where they stay in sucks the most.

If given a chance to move out, would you move out of your city?

I am expecting most of the answers to be no. Unless you are in an industry where job change means changing location as well.

But the fact of the matter is, that no matter how much we hate our city, we still love it and do not like to part with it.

This discussion is going nowhere..... if only there was a way to measure a city's "suckiness" we would have known for sure.

...lolZ:ohyeah:

pune sucks in following terms:-- My experience in past 28 months.

A neat guided complaint

Pathetic people all over-- No one will guide you properly. All seem selfish esp. shop owners. If a shop has no particular product he wont recommend or tell us similar shop where we can get it no matter what. We simply hear mujhe pata nahi or aisa koi shop idhar kahi nahi. Poona people think they r real rajas n maharajas. Not a single person will guide you or talk to you properly. They will either be very aggressive or ignorant or simply act Khadoos with you as if doing any ehsaan or upkaar on you.

Today we were at JM road nr McDonalds and nearby there is CROCS shop, my uncles kid liked the shops look and he demanded for a snap off his cellphone and while taking the snap the croc person came out and started shouting and so the nearby watchman saying its not allowed and is illegal n etc etc..and were very harsh & said no shops will ever let you take their shop snaps. WTF? Crap n bullshit:S.

We can freely take snaps of any offices and even reknowned car showrooms then who the hell is this croc in front of them? In Mumbai or any other places we can freely take snaps of any shops and anything unless specified.

Odd bus services-- Bus frequency is worse than anywhere and so is their condition and bus fare. They charge high fares but just look at their maintenance, bus can breakdown suddenly for no reasons anywhere. No windows no proper seats and at times just go on a single DIM headlamp. And after 9:30pm very low bus frequency service to many areas of city even though you may see many people everywhere. Buses wont stop at busstops no matter ther are empty, until you wave hand or even that wont help at times.

To add--

Tin covering the engine which has been already detached from corners..u can also see the road and engine part of bus throgh it!!!

Lights inside the bus are also very dull(jst like 0 watt bulb!!).U will feel like,u have gone to some village side and sitting in Candle light!!

I think PMT buses has never gone through OILING of their engines especially BREAKS!!

Bcoze whenever driver applies breaks,u will get a forward jerk of 3-4 foots!!!!!

Have a SAFE & at on your own RISKABLE JOURNEY in PMT BUSES!!!!!!!!!:bleh:

Auto rickshaw-- Well what to say about these here? The meter goes on and on so fast, even fast than the autos speed. Where we can travel for say 12 bucks these auto meters will shelve your 17 bucks for sure. They charge you even for their own return journey--WTF. :@ and at times they simply charge you flat rates and wont take you by the meter ways.

BTW using same pune mfg meters in mumbai and they seem very economical---shame poona shame

Traffic issue-- Unsolved and will remain unsolved for ages to come:-- They dont know how to tackle the traffic so the RTO keeps on changing the routes from time to time n now its one way in most parts. Still no outputs-- i pity seriously.--poor pune-- Also if u wanna enjoy free side rides, then this is the perfect place. You can drive in any directions here ulta as i would say, so dont get amazed if suddenly any vehicle comes from front on left side lane.

Women reservations-- If you happen to travel in PMT buses then be ready to face embracing moments from poona women regarding seating rights.

They have full left side row reserved and wont allow any gents to seat there but r not ashamed to sit on any gents seats. It means the transport system is only designed for these ladies and not any man. If you seat there they will DEMAND you to get up and if you deny then they will do jabardasti and start giving bad words. Unke hi baap ka raj hai jaise..

A total injustice on man here.

Is this what is called pune?? Aurat ka gundaraj??

A real pollution FREE!! for all city-- If you have a clean surrounding and r missing some dirt then this is the place to visit and grab some kachra and dirt and what more, you will get much added bonus free of cost.

People in pune dont have money or simply dont regularly check their vehicles for PUCs but they do want BMWs and Audis to own. They dont deserve any such good things infact they should ride a bicycle. They are kanjoos and at times only for themselves they have abundant money to do aiyashiis.

A common man cant even walk on streets, roads or gullies freely without using a piece of cloth around his face just coz of this dangerous pollution.

Global warming is increasing due to a city like this.

Monster men-- Men here will keep staring on your moms, sis, girl friends, or any lady from head to toe. As if men here havent seen a women in recent centuries.

If that was enough then if a girl is standing for an auto/ bus or for any reasons, ongoing men no matter any pedestrian, or truckwalla, tempowalla etc. will especially park besides her and starts to shoot out all kinds of raunchy words to the poor girl, they may even say like 'Chalti kya?' or "for whom u r waiting, come lets go" all sorts of comments on her dresses, physics and what not....just cant speak any more. :ashamed:

It simply indicates that people here have no serious work to do but they do have their precious times for something like this. I pity thier own women- daughters, sis etc.

Kab sudhrenge??

That's the most ridiculous post I have ever read on TE!

Pune's people are the most sophisticated and well-educated in India - this has been said not by me but by many great personalities from all fields.

Let's dissect your views one by one.

Pathetic people - LOL, I think it's a pathetic observation. You had some bad experiences, so you are calling all people of Pune pathetic, seriously how lame is that?

Odd bus service - I know it's not greatest but things are improving, aren't they?

Auto rickshaw, traffic issue, pollution - these problems are associated with all the big cities in India. In fact a city grows as more people get attracted to it. The more people live in it, the bigger the problems get. In fact as a local, I should blame YOU for this problem, isn't it correct? :bleh:

Women reservations - ha ha ha, on one hand you claim that people in Pune ogle at ladies and misbehave with them, to solve the same problem, the PMPL management comes up with this option, shouldn't you be happy?

And I think no city sucks or rocks, it's just a matter of perception.

One example - I may like serene cities but other people may complain that there is no activity there. Everybody can have his own views, right?

Mods, before the discussion gets too hot to handle, can you lock the thread? I am sure nobody will enjoy reading that their city sucks!

Actually discussion has not become too hot to handle. I bet if you made a thread like this anywhere in the world the answers would be similar. Its been interesting to see what ppl complain about and how common those complaints between cities are.

End of the day one person or two dissing your city isn't going to make one bit of difference is it ;)

I have never been to many places rather than HP, Punjab, UP & Rajasthan but mnay of my friends are from Bihar, Mumbai etc & looking @ thm & teher behaviour i believe all these places are good if they r hvn such good people.

Delhi Sucks man ! or any other big or so called city in India

Transport :Sucks : H**ami auto wala mostly overcharges .thanks to metro for some relief .metro really kicked in there a$$.these auto wala will be a big embarrassment during commonwealth games.(only if everything is done properly till then :)

Beggars :like in any other city of India .Dedoo bhagwan or allah ki naam par de doo .

Taxes :as proposed by sheila aunty ,Delhiites may be paying more taxes from now on april or march I guess :( or people entering delhi maybe paying taxes too ).

Cleanliness :Well ,I guess whole of India is a big dustbin for its citizens.Nobody cares :(

in a way ,..every part of India is either facing the same or worse .:(

Delhi sucks. Rocking in crime rate these days or say from past many months. Should be awarded for it.

You can commonly hear of city buses catching fires and day time robbery, atm robbery and what not. Bridge collapsing. and much much more to add. :bleh: The pm is just sleeping and so the other netas n political a**ses and utilizing the rest of the countries valuable funds or capital to help this poor city. ...and thus we all suffer.
:@
Its a shame for india to call delhi as its capital. :ashamed:
But yes can be called a big time HAPPENING crime capital now.
All baaboos are bakwaas. Will adjust with any place on the earth but delhi. Sucks man.:@

Chill dude. I think you are a true punekar and so you dont want to believe this TRUE things.

And btw its not only my observation but by many others too. Its only i'm speaking here coz being a member. Just returning home yesterday from pune we had a chat in bus with an old man. He is staying in pune for past 28yrs and he too agreed with me and so the volvo driver/cleaner and some surrounding passengers too. Now its upto you. You might be the lucky one then to experience all good from your city. So enjoy and good for you.

And hello-- what made you said that Pune's people are the most sophisticated and well-educated in India - this has been said not by me but by many great personalities from all fields. Pune is nothing in front of other metros. It just want to copy each and everything of Mumbai and Bangalore but i bet it cant even be 15% of them or other metros.

Punekars have a real bad attitude and they think they are the greatest of all. Unhelful by nature.

For traffic issues the city managements should be blamed--which is sleeping as always and not the people. Its a shame for your city that students from IIT Powai had made a program to tackle punes traffic but it wasnt accepted from your city. Pollution there is killer. Theres no PUC check up on vehicles-hell no one bothers. Right??

Autos suck. Has anybody heard of any auto in the country charging back fare? Charging fare again to go back to the place from we hired him? :bleh: Is he our relative or has he dropped us from his personal vehicle?

Road work is going at paud road and observing it since last july last year but even the contractor and the workers are unable to figure out what exactly they are upto:S they are just digging and filling and again same thing. The road is lost and now looks like a ghaati rasta. But in other cities same work is completed within max 15days and not more.

Pmpl has a plan but which itself is unplanned. Imagine sitting inside a bus with 11 seat reserved for women and rest 8 for men. Injustice for men. It should be like first 4x3 seats for women like in other cities. And just look how these ladies behave in pmpl if you dare sit on any ladies seat, you are fired as if they are the bosses--arrogant h!

No matter what the new pmpl buses too turn into kabadkhanaas within a yr.

Pune is still fighting from swine flu whereas others cities got free from the flu within 2 months time. Pune sleeps man and so the public and management.

I have many people from pune itself who fells the same. And these are not my own alone inputs but speaking minds of the suffered and still suffering.

For me pune will always remain pathetic experience.

and btw dont take it personally but also dont try cover pune, its all exposed.

There are -ve & +ve aspects to everything in the world and we are talking of places...its big.

Theres nothing to get too hot or swell, just relax and enjoy the experiences of fellow members here on TE.

I am chilling dude. Didn't you see my user name? It's cool dude. :cool2:

Yes, I am a Punekar and proud of that. Why shouldn't I be?
Pune is nothing in front of other metros. It just want to copy each and everything of Mumbai and Bangalore but i bet it cant even be 15% of them or other metros.
Oh really? Who told you that Mumbai and Bengaluru are our models? Have you visited these cities? They themselves have a lot of problems. How can they be model cities for us?

Just returning home yesterday from pune we had a chat in bus with an old man. He is staying in pune for past 28yrs and he too agreed with me and so the volvo driver/cleaner and some surrounding passengers too.

LOL! Now seriously, how lame is that? You are quoting a driver, a cleaner and an old man. Don't you have your own views buddy? Tomorrow, these people will say that Kashmir belongs to Pakistan, are you going to agree to them?
Has anybody heard of any auto in the country charging back fare?

Well, I have never paid an auto driver a return fee. Don't you think it was noobish on your part to pay return money to an auto driver?

But in other cities same work is completed within max 15days and not more.

Oh really, which country are you talking about? This is India dude, if they complete the work in 15 months, we should be happy!

And just look how these ladies behave in pmpl if you dare sit on any ladies seat, you are fired as if they are the bosses--arrogant h!

Well, if that is the law, you must adhere by it and shouldn't occupy their seats. If you want the law changed, why don't you write to newspapers/PMPL? And shouldn't you be happy that due to this arrangement, the indecent and 'bad attitude' Punekars won't get a chance to tease women?

Pune is still fighting from swine flu whereas others cities got free from the flu within 2 months time. Pune sleeps man and so the public and management.
Oh my gosh? :O you are blaming Punekars for fighting swine flue? That was a natural calamity and Punekars did everything to stop its spread. Do you know how much efforts PMC and other NGOs put in to educate people? The staff of Naidu hospital was working round the clock and risking their own lives to help Swine flue affected people. It's not like we have a magic wand which we could have used but didn't? Can you tell me how we could have fought swine flue better? Tomorrow you will blame Mumbaikars for 26 July and Port blair people for Tsunami...
For me pune will always remain pathetic experience.
Orly? Then I have only 1 question, why don't you leave this pathetic town, its pathetic people behind and go back to your native place where birds are chirping, people lay out Red carpet for guests and everything is merry go lucky?

Last thing, Punekars may have many bad qualities but at least they don't badmouth a place where they have been staying for years and which has accepted them with its open arms...

Time to close the thread before it flames further.

I now feel sorry to post about other city earlier in this thread.

ronit said:

This can happen if you want to go to some out of the way place. But its usually like a fixed amount over the meter or similar. Not specifically heard the phrase back-fare yet tho. Haggling with autos is an art you learn and involves patience, usually after 5+ autos you find some fellow who just needs the money and will take you where you want to go.

Course if you live in an out of the way place then you will be screwed by these types. Better get a bike. I've always felt that by law an auto cant refuse to take you anywhere you ask provided its in the city limits but you will be amazed how fussy they can be.

If its raining, its big bonus time for them. Time of day makes a big diff too, i mean between 6-8pm, not later. Earlier is ok but too early and they get funny as well.

I completely agree with ronit.
Me myself and some of my relatives and friends studying there have similar complaints.
You are sounding a lamer or say noob in understanding these points.

Your are not chilldude as you are pointing to but a typical punekar who cant resist the blames.
Thats where you puneri lack..dont accept the reality and try to be great in your self world ignoring the offs & bads. I'm a proud mumbaikar and no issues if people have complaints about my city, i'm cool and everybody has his share of good and bad.
Dude go from shivajingr to any place like warje or kothrud or shanivarwada, the rickshaw will ask you for their own return fares at late evenings saying they dont get bhaadaa. Thus we need to pay for our + their traveling. WTF?? :@Now its not our problem if they dont get bhadaa. The meters too run faster the auto speed lols. Same pune hadapsar manufactured meters are used in other parts of the state but they dont overtake their vehicles and charge the fare like anything but run just right, economically:tongue:
Yes poona always compares itself with mumbai and other metros which it should not. First they should atleast improve their infrastructures. It should be unique than others.
Dont talk about the efforts to tackle swine flu dude, it was late when they used their slow brains. Havent your read the newspapers at that time??There were only blame games rather than any actions. But looks at other places how they handled the situation. And it sounds so childish that your comparing terrorism with diseases, you definitely need to grow.
Also are you are trying to say that the old man a puneri and other puneri people travelling were jerks? And you are too older than the old man to judge the city...haha!! Now you are yourself ruining your own people dude common wake up. Dont run from your words now.lolz dude.
Now inspite of getting so many proofs you are still ignoring everything... a pitiful act.
I would say if ever this city becomes virtual for a day i will redevelop and plan it properly and then bring it back to life. A reset or format is necessary.

If you still dont believe all this then i think you are a god sent angel riding on a white horse or a ferrari, never peeping out of your house or knowing whats going out in this world and you have got all facilities at your finger tips.
And why you asking someone to leave pune? I will rather say if you are so much in love with the city better dont enter other cities and complaint about it & be satisfied with what you have got.
P.S:

Mods you dont need to close this interesting thread just for this one city. If you do so it means you too are running from the truth. Argument is a part of discussion and just closing it is not the solution Accept the sharings and be cool all of you.:)
