The Aam Admi Party

I believe if "some" government try to work for the people instead of just 'securing vote bank' for the next election, we can see some real change.
And AAP seems to falls into that category - well to some extent. (from the interviews at least :p). But we'll see of course.

But I am very skeptical about the cabinet of the AAP govt. Though I have kept aside my doubt about their vision/path/action being aligned with Kejriwal, would they be able to bring 'any' change to the current bureaucratic scenario where anyone would made 100 enemies to going to stay clean !!

Now that the AAP is about to form the govt. all the parties must stop trying to wrestle each other for power, criticize each other and support and help the AAP in forming a good govt., better than the last. If they genuinely cares for the people of Delhi all of them esp. the big thress-BJP, Congress and AAP must respect and help the new govt. instead of yelling at each other on personal egos.

unfortunately, that's the last thing they care for, if at all

Now that tax document submission time is near, I am once again getting to see the true colors of the so called supporters of Anti Corruption movement of Anna Hazare and the sort of people for whom there is no end when promoting Aravind Kejriwal and his party. In general, their supporters also tend to be self delusional and egoistic just like their leaders. The very people who wore Anna Hazare merchandise (hats and t-shirts) and organized/participated in anti corruption rallies and are so very aggressive about promoting AAP on facebook and forums have no qualms about putting in fake rent receipts for for 25k/month even though they live in their own house and getting fake medical receipts for 15k to get medical exemptions and and fake travel documents for over 80k to claim LTA and they never show their other sources of income like interest on FDs or returns from shares or even rent from their rented property. Their conscience doesn't even bother them in these matters. They blame politicians for eating tax players money, but they always some nice way of justifying their own wrong doings just like their beloved champions of anti corruption.

Some of these people who are in the same salary bracket as I am pay less than 2 Lakh in taxes each year with the help of fake documents while I myself pay more than than double that amount. Heck, one of these guys who was wearing a t-shift with a anti-corruption slogan was chiding me for not saving tax by getting fake documents made for just 1% of the amount.

For them, its alright because the big bad politicians are eating crores of rupees and before that, they them selves eating lakhs is not even a crime. They completely ignore their own faults and go on bragging about their anti corruption hat.

Not to forget the free water promised that everyone is lapping up like idiots. Unfortunately our average population is so idiotic that the level of political discourse will never rise to the level where issues like proper use based pricing for a scarce resource like water, impact of the electricity subsidy on the ballooning deficit etc. will be discussed. "We will do audit of electricity companies and reduce electricity prices by 50%". No logic given as to how an audit will necessarily lead to a reduction in tariffs. One guy in my neighborhood hasn't paid his electricity bill this month saying that since bills will now be reduced, he will submit the reduced bill now.

For the last time, water is not scarce, it just needs to be managed well. That is what they have been saying all along. Sigh.

Basic necessities of life need to be priced less. Electricity, water, these are not luxuries anymore, not at 700litres for a family of 5. Everyone has gyan to give, no one has the time to read their reasoning.

@lordnemesis - People of every country are programmed to do that same, evading taxes is not the same as corruption. Lets not lose the bigger picture here of blatant and harmful corruption to the point of making life miserable.

yeah what would people with actual PhD's in this field know about optimal water pricing. Lets give it for free. Dr. Yogendra Yadav knows best. I will personally go and enroll in his party if he can reduce electricity tariffs by 50% with any idiotic subsidies and inducing dead weight losses by taxing other areas.

I for one am clueless as to what amounts to corruption and what doesn't.

your logic would help the kapil sibbals and Pc's zero loss logic

Whatever AAP will do in next 7 days may be looked as a platform for no confidence motion - whether they win or not. However 'what' they do will tell the difference. For removing beacons, free water, general entry to Secretariat looks more a political; I'd see seriously implementing anti-corruption helpline, crackdown on schools, decisions to ensure women safety as serious measures. IMO they deserve a chance to show what difference their governance can bring. If they fail , still instead of only 1 'big' option every elections, I'd prefer 2. The more the competition ... the merrier.

... Somehow I can't help and relate the scenario with the movie Nayak

Expecting them to do what Congress didn't want to do in last 10-15 years would be too much. They should be given full term at least so they can set something right. Trying to tackle every problem at one time won't work. Especially the corruption problem. Unless there's a law passed that government servants caught accepting bribes or having money beyond known sources of income can be fired and their pension or health benefits withdrawn permanently, it will be an uphill task.

There's isnt even any remote comparison.

A:
PC said that for the coal scam.
if coal is not mined, its not a scam.

Still dont see any comparison. There is plenty of natural water supply to delhi from various dams, the water needs to only be routed properly, and charging people only over a certain usage limit is a possibility without actually paying from govt's pockets. I dont see anything wrong logically. PC's statement was stupid. But you are free to draw your own conclusions.

It might be offtopic but still.
I think it's human nature to exploit others at-least a little bit when we have power. None of the netas are 100% honest. AAP also won't be. But it's better to have someone who takes 100 rs does developmement of 80 rs and eats 20 rs rather than present netas which eat whole 100%.

See, that is exactly the problem here. People in our country don't even have a clear understanding of what constitutes corruption. The only sure thing for them is that what ever they indulge in is not corruption, if somebody else is doing the same thing at a larger scale (or sometimes even if its same or smaller scale as long as somebody else is doing it) then it is called corruption.

For instance, if a hundred or two hundred politicians take bribes or swipe a few hundred crore govt money and put them into a swiss account, people call it corruption, but when only 2% of the population pays taxes and many of them don't even pay fully and the population at large are collectively responsible for tax evasion in such scale that the all the illegitimate money of the politicians in swiss accounts put together would still pale in comparison, its still not corruption, its just plain old harmless tax evasion which "people are programmed to do". Doesn't it occur that politicians are the same people who are doing what the people are as you say programmed to do?

People also tend to focus on only one aspect of corruption which is govt or political corruption which although destructive is nothing compared to the destructiveness of the corruption of the common people at large. I think you are loosing the bigger picture by just focusing on just one type of corruption and not the corruption at large which happens to be responsible for the one type of corruption you are talking about as well.

Corruption simply put is moral decay. It comes in many forms and it does not always have something to do with money either. It can be abuse of power regardless of which level. Who are responsible for giving corrupt politicians their power just because they happen to belong to their caste, religion, region or because they gave money, booze or gifts or because they promised subsidies or other benefits when they come into power? The very political and govt corruption you are talking about is also the result of the corruption at large of the population. Every product of this moral decay of the population is responsible for the current plight of the country.

Do you think people who takes/gives bribes/evade taxes to their capacity whether in hundered's, thousands or lakh's or abuse the power they have would not take advantage of the situation when they have access to crores of rupees or when they have more power?. Politicians are just convenient scrape goats, but at the end of the day, they just happen to be also part of this morally decayed population of the country who just happen to have access to lot more power and money than the rest.

AAP asked people in Delhi to stop paying electricity bills despite using the service and when connections were cut, their workers helped the people in many places in tapping the lines or transformers directly and leech electricity for free and they encouraged this. If think voting in such a party would change any thing, be my guest, but sorry, if I am skeptical about the ability of a party and its supporters with such loose morals bringing in any change for the good.

May be some politicians would be persecuted over their wrong doing and new ones (who may be even worse) may take their place. but that's just an after-math of people looking for revenge on those they assume to be their tormentors, not real change.

Intense discussion going on. Why dont you guys nominate yourself in the next election from your own towns, cites, states whatever? :p

^ Raising awareness goes a long way to serve as seed of change... Doesn't matter if someone join politics or not.

I would really like to know how the 700 free liters of water per month is going to help us. Especially since, as per my understanding, you need to pay the full amount if you exceed the 700 quota by even 1 liter.
Assuming a family of 4

4 people
10 liters of water while bathing (very conservative estimate)
Once per day for 30 days.

=4*10*30 =1200 liters on bathing alone.

Now add your washing clothes/hands/shaving/drinking/calls of nature/etc.

Arent you an optimist :p

I agree summarily with you, but when you equate not paying taxes with outright theft, I disagree.

Its called Civil Disobedience, when you refuse to pay the bills cause they are inflated due to excessive corruption and scams. Its a perfectly accepted way of protest. I dont know why you only want to look at the minutest negatives but are happy for those who openly steal. Its a funny I think, Some people just want things to continue the way they are, so they can keep cribbing about it and feel good about themselves being better. Sigh.
