So, If MLAs abstain, they would come under anti defection law.

Therefore cannot defect or abstain. How is the BJP to poach anyone under these circumstances. If they do those votes don't count because those MLA's will be disqualified by the speaker straight away.

Is there an angle here. it brings down the votes the JDS+congress can get ?

So what will happen tomorrow is some MLAs would abstain from voting and since BJP MLA is the speaker, he'll either take too long to disqualify defectors or outright say those MLAs do not come under anti defector law. Given that BJP managed to get governors appointment first while congress- JDS was left waiting, this can happen.

It will be challenged. I mean if you're going to the trouble of having a vote. Show of hands not a voice vote then i find it frivolous that a speaker can take too long to disqualify anyone.

Why accept to be part of the coalition when you can be CM. Congress has made an offer the JDS cannot refuse. BJP with 104 is in no mood to offer CM to JDS and given the experience last time it is definitely out of the question

The Congress needs nearly the entire JDS to ensure that they survive, while the BJP needs only a few. It is easier to keep a few happy than many.

and even if coalition is unstable, that will only mean new elections or governors rule? so why did governer choose bjp instead of congress jds is what im thinking.

If they cannot come to an agreement, then maybe Presidents rule, and then might be new elections. However, the BJP would be wary of re-elections as they have more to lose, and would try to stitch a status quo.

^^ 54 of the 77 elected MLA's have serious cases like murder and rape against them. Note that these numbers are also based on self declaration. Also, its not a question of knowing and not knowing, most people know and just don't give a damn. If a person has notoriety because of his criminal background, he has all the more chance of getting votes.

You are assuming BJP in Karnataka are as competent as the Delhi branch. This is far from reality. If Modi & Amit treat the BJP leaders in Karnataka like school children its because those buggers deserve it 100%

BJP becoming the largest single party i suspect is down to Delhi branch. People were voting for Modi like they did in the Parliament elections and like they will next year. The Modi wave is still potent. People still believe in him in sufficient numbers.

Don't be, we are a system that works under the presumption of innocent until proven guilty

All those cases are pending, these people haven't been tried yet.

Think otherwise what would happen, if you wanted to stop any one from contesting just file a case for whatever pretext and you have effectively blocked them from standing for office.

That is the greater evil
