I have a different view on this. I do support the stance taken by MNS on marathi speaking in Maharashtra. Mumbai is the fort and if that is not upheld then I feel it will be a downhill ride for the Marathi people.
For your record, my mother tongue is Kannada born in Karnataka but been in Mumbai all my life.
And whats this talk about Hindi being the national language? True, its declared the same, but in how many states is it spoken. Most of the South Indian and the eastern states dont employ Hindi in their political affairs, so why should Maharashtra be any different. All power to MNS on this.
If the Center is really serious on the use of the National language, let them pass a resolution on this.

That earth goes around the sun is as much a reality as the fact that if at all there has to be a poll in India to choose the language as the Mother Tongue (for few ppl who wdnt accept things until and unless they are in the rulebooks) Hindi will come out on top.
There are many ppl who wdnt have any degree of comfort speaking their own local language but will converse in hindi even while they are asleep.. trying to dig into the record books is just like behaving like our lame politicians who wd like to look hard for loopholes to achieve petty goals.
If only that politician wd have looked that hard into just one problem a common man in his constituency is facing.
Everybody shd Try to unite India by natural means. And what u mentioned is just not something expected.

As for why i dislike RT , is that though he started on the right track, he has become nothing more than a politician manipulating everyone around him towards idiotic demands, and using equally idiotic and violent means. A restaurant in my area was attacked, because the name was BOMBAY HIGH. I ask why ? Recently MNS protested against the use of the word Bombay instead of Mumbai in "Wake up Sid". C'mon. If anyone here can justify this protest to be anything other than a publicity stunt and total idiocy, please do. To me this makes him nothing less than a lunatic. If he actually wants to benefit the Maharashtrians, then why not do it peacefully instead of creating havoc every-time the polls come near ? And those who say that he is doing so as others did the same before him and no one is pointing fingers at them, look again, no-one likes them too.
