Alrite, havent progressed any further in unlocking my AC8710. Still stuck at figuring out how to find SPC number for the modem.
Meanwhile, I went to BSNL office in the afternoon today. They dont seem to have any EVDO modems in stock here.
Do you guys have any idea about unlocked modems working well with EVDO available commonly (on flipkart etc.).
I have brought back a form that I need to fill to get start up kit for RUIM for Rs 40, I will be going back tomorrow to get the RUIM, in case this 8710 doesn't work, what do you guys suggest i should get.
You can go for Micromax 310c it is availabile online on flipkart and other stores, its a good modem. Bsnl also has few models like Prithuvi and capitol which are available.
kuduku: i just spoke to my friend again and he said that yes it's an AC30 model and the one we tested at his place, both the Tata CDMA & GSM sim were working in the slot. I tested that myself. Also if we can get the software for copying firmware then he can ask the person who he sold the modem to for using this software and posting the firmware in which both sims work for any provider. If all goes well i should have my modem next week and i can try flashing the firmware on it and testing it. Sim's would not be an issue as i have bsnl, airtel, tata and reliance sim's with me.
Once you get the software just email me the link would forward him the same to create a backup file.

cisco_tech can help if you need anything from there.
I am still trying to remember how i did it.
Found the steps, try below this should work, i used these to figure out the SPC of my photon EC1261 data card
So I will show the methods here to help you to unlock their Tata photon plus modem..
1. First of all You need to download DFS 3.3 From CDMA Tool. DFS software - professional cdma tool
2. Install it on your PC
3. Connect your Tata Photon Modem to USB Port
4. Open DFS software and Click on Ports button
5. It'll show you how many ports used to connect the usb modem
6. Just double click on the Port where the Application Interface has connected. (Not the Modem or PC UI Ports)
7. The port will connect and show you greened. Just send sometimes the wrong SPC by pressing the SPC button on the top
8. Once connected the software automatically reads the data card details
9. Go to Memory > select EEPROM and select memory size as 16x128 and press show button. (If any error message shows ignore that.) After some times save the Buffer using SAVE BUFFER Button.
10. It'll shows you the physical address where the data’s of the modem stored.
11. Send a wrong SPC Code by using the SPC Button on the top of the window. (eg. 000000) 11. on the right side of the Memory panel select SPC1 and in the result text box it’ll show you the physical address of the Pin in hexadecimal format. The first six digits is your Modems SPC code. You can change it to 000000( Hex eg. 30 30 30 30 30 30) and send the SPC code as 000000 once again
12. The modem will show you the result “UNLOCKEDâ€
13. Then you go to Programming Tab and in the SPC Text box type ‘000000’ (hex: 30 30 30 30 30 30) and Press the Write button. The code has been successfully written to your modem.
14. Now you’re done unlocking.
Or Use CDMA Workshop Tool And in RUIM setting there are 4 options 1. RUIM ONLY 2. NV ONLY 3. RUIM IF AVAILABLE 4. GSM 1x
You have to select RUIM only or RUIM Pref.
Using the above settings i was able to get the SPC code for my ec1261 as the default code did not work. It took a bit of time and patience as lot of times i was not able to capture the buffer. But after few attempts it worked.
Best of luck ... see if this works, there was one more way of doing this but not able to find those steps.
