Was in Kerela for the weekend and i carried my bsnl evdo along with me. I was getting upto 1Mbps download speeds in Karakorum. First time i got such speeds on my EVDO and i must say the feeling was awesome, I wish i got similar speeds back home. Post coming back home the speeds dropped and it was back to its old slow self.

Same here , i had come to another city for some work and consistent 2/2.5 Mbps download speed here . Tower is 200 meter away .

Wish we had such good speeds back, home, back in Bangalore now and the speed sucks. It's really running slow. Is it time to start looking for alternatives.

Speedtest

Hi
This is screenshot of yesterday night speed in utorrent at 0230 am . Why cant we get this speed normally . It has been 2.5Mbps whole night as i have downloaded more than 10GB in night.

@kuduku I was getting same all the time until monsoon started and now Sierra is showing me -60dbm from -48dbm. and speed hovers between 200-250 KBps. Looks like bad weather effect.

In cloud cover my speed always improves , I dont know why ? but thats what i have observed
sent u a pm

Great to see you guys, getting such good speeds, at least you can enjoy the unlimited fast speed experience. No high speeds here, meanwhile i am looking at other alternatives. I don't think the situation would improve here as too many users using bsnl.

Guys , have some good news. My speeds have gone up. My BSNL broadband went down for couple of hours and i needed to do some work.Rather than hooking the modem to the laptop. I set it up with my cradlepoint router and hooked the modem upto it. Post my download speeds nearly doubled from low 25- 30s to 55-60. Now i am constantly getting 512Kbps download speeds. I also tested without the router and noticed a drop in speed. Another thing that i noticed is that when i hook up the external patch antenna to the modem the echo goes up to -5 to -7. When i use the internal antenna in the modem the echo is around -2 to -3. I feel this maybe the reason why after connecting antenna the speeds may be dropping. Any solution for this, if i can reduce the echo i am sure i may get better speeds. As of now i am happy at least now i am getting constant download speeds in the 50+ range.

The only and the only solution is moving the router at different places and checking signal , echo and download speeds , which you would have only done . But this thing is surprising - increase in speeds with cradlepoint

Yea, it nearly doubled, seeing that i have hooked up my cradlepoint directly to the 595u and kept it near the window. i am getting 100% signal @ -70dBM and echo is at -2. There must be some setting, modulation or configuration change that the router is doing which is causing this high speed. Now i have the pc hooked up through lan and the speeds are better than before. At least i am happy as the download speed has improved and now i would continue to use the same, hopefully the speeds won't die down.

Is it for real ?

Hi
This is what you get when you are in the hub aka MSC ( Main Switching Centre) of BSNL of your city with all the towers on your head @cisco_tech I think no one can go above that or below it ;)1.jpg

Yes, there is all india roaming.

If the modem has a sim / ruim slot, you just need to insert it and its ready. There is no programming necessary for ruim. Its only needed when there is no ruim slot in case of modems like the Sierra 595.

Not sure if you guys have noticed, if you recharge for Rs 20 you get 180 days validity, now you can convert that validity back to talktime. The surprising thing is, when you convert it back, you'll get Rs 72. Do that 11 times, you would have spent just Rs 220 but will have an account balance of Rs 792 enough for 30 days UL pack.

Well this doesnt surprise me , the contacts you got in BSNL in you city you can get anything done . The question to ask is - Why so late
2 connections , guaranteed 2 mbps UL but you are not using it , not downloading anything :(..... Why cant this good luck fall upon me:(
you should really really think on downloading now .

And forgot to tell you took another prepaid evdo in ZTE AC30 aka Verizon Fivespot when i went to home city this time . Thats why had to MSC to get to get it programmed . After 1 hour they left the programming computer with files with me and told to do it myself only .... So had a good time checking all settings , clarifying all doubts and exchanging QPST latest version . The JTO was very helpful including his boss and lower staff
