no issues , like a normal evdo modem . I generally use it for its WIFI function . Dont have to attach it to PC . Switch it on , keep it some place in good signal area and it use evdo wirelessly on my laptop in other room
EVDO out then use my airtel 3g sim again by wifi to do my stuff . So both cdma and gsm available , max 5 devices supported through wifi so its okay

@kuduku
Correct me if am wrong, but you are saying this modem supports both, GSM & CDMA sim. I can use cdma for some time, then remove it put GSM sim in and use the same.Is it compatible with both CDMA & GSM.

If it is boy, i am interested and will start looking for one.

How much did you pay for the same what were the damages and where did you procure it from ?

how you programmed airtel 3g sim for wifi access.

thanks kuduku.
no programming required as verizon Indian GSM partner are Voda and airtel . APN is inbuilt no mods/programming required

It supports both EVDO esn based and GSM SIM card based . Both are not active together . Either you use EVDO or GSM . Main usage is its a WIFI router (MIFI) so 5 devices can connect easily . Its WIFI g but indian speed will always be less so doesnt matter . You can connect through usb cable or WIFI mode . WIFI mode can be configured from 192.168.0.1 , same as router web based GUI
I paid 1500 bucks shipped to my home when $ was 46 . Had used SNS . Its okay for email and stuff . Battery last 5/6 hours continuous light usage . downloading kills the battery in 2/3 hours

And another thing , last weekend did another antenna mod . After reading about cantenna and dish antenna mod , i changed it little or mixed them . Took a spare airtel dish ( any dish will do ) and placed the flat panel antenna where LNB is placed . Removed the LNB and OH BOY network gain was -15 dbm and download speeds increased to 200-280 in night and minimum 150-200 in day . The difference in huge keeping in mind that before the mod i was getting not more than 115 as download speed . Monsoons have increased the height of trees and thus reducing the signal due to interference . But the dish antenna being extremely directional , took some good amount of effort to get the signal . I havent still tuned it top perfection as during tuning it went to -71dbm and right now its only -79dbm . But important point is that signal interfernce was very less Dushie can try it out as you have speed issues . And lazy to go on roof and click the pics but will try to do so this weekend

pratikb the Ukraine/ Russian forum has listed means to change apn for all network through WIFI gui let me see if i can get the link or google it

Wow, i am really interested, looking for pics of the antenna now, so are you using the BSNL EVDO sim in this or have you configured your evdo settings on the modem itself, just the way we did on 595u.

Also if you can post the link of the seller or place you bought from, i can look at picking up the same.
Thanks

I will post pics but ZTE AC30 is EVDO esn based and not RUIM based . Same like 595U . Got it from ebay.com

Ohh, that's good,if it was RUIM based then i could have used my tata indicom sim. But still its good as at least i don't need to carry around 2 modems and one modem will solve purpose of both.

i got a BSNL ruim recently and no uname/pwd combination seems to work , one day recharge of Rs55 got wasted . I tried mobile number, cdma, bsnl and 165 ...

Hello guys,
reading last few pages of this thread has really got me interested in EVDO. I think it might be a good option for me knowing that not many people in my area even know about EVDO option for internet access.

my question is for cisco_tech or kuduku or anyone else who could help me out.

I already have a ZTE AC8710 CDMA modem which I got back in 2009 with reliance broadband+,

1. Can I use this modem for BSNL EVDO?
2. If yes, how do I set it up or unlock it?
3. what I need to do to get it ready before I take it to BSNL office to get it registered.

I'll probably check speeds on this modem before I go after the famous 595u.

I mentioned cisco's name because I saw one of his post somewhere where he was talking about unlocking a ZTE AC 8710.
Any help will be highly appreciated :)

If you are asking then atleast tell whether your modem is esn based or esn and a locked RUIM slot or RUIM only . Saves the google for us and if you would had googled this is in first 5 searches
ZTE AC8710 unlock - Cdma Gsm Forum Mygsmindia.
No one is going to spoon feed , do your research also and people will help you in programming and setting it up
If you check the specs first thing its Rev 0
ZTE AC8710, ZTE 8710, EVDO CDMA wireless modem
Specification
CDMA 2000 1X 800MHz EVDO Rev O
High Data Transfer RateDL 2.4Mbps/UL 153.6Kbps
Roaming automaticly on EVDO and CDMA networks.
Support Data, voice and SMS function
Plug & Play
Micro SD Slot ,Support TF Card expandation

And generally all BSNL EVDO networks are Rev A which is 3.1 Mbps . As such in 3.1 Mbps modem it is difficult to get the theoretical 3.1 Mbps. If you will use Rev 0 speeds will be lesser . All these good speeds are because of a modem with a battery . Other modem might not give you that speed . Best is test in your area , ask BSNL for a demo or get it from your friend . Thinking there are less users will not give you god speeds , there are many other factors in it .
Again I say that if you had read this thread then would had checked with dfs/qpst whether your spc is 000000 or not . And asked how to unlock it if its not 000000
Please do all these , think about Rev A and 0 , try to get a demo from BSNL .
And remember speed and usage wise there is no difference between this and BSNL 8700 . So what ever BSNL demo shows is what you will in your house . Or try to get it from a friend and test the connection . Whats the use of unlocking and effort if speeds are poor . You are a new user so we dont know whether you are into this only for the BSNL EVDO UL connection or will be getting kicks by unlocking and programming it like a techie geek . And please read the full thread it has all the answers

^ @kuduku : I believe the AC8710 is Rev A, I have the same modem which I got with my Tata Photon+ connection.
@c0n. : You will need to connect the modem to your PC and use any tool such as DFS and enable the RUIM slot. And it will be much easier to just get a prepaid CDMA Voice connection which is RUIM based for Rs 40 or so and test the speed, rather than asking BSNL for a demo. You can activate the UL data pack on the same sim.

Hi,
All ordered the AC30 from Ebay for 35$. Yesterday was a friends place and he had the same modem which was working with both CDMA and GSM sims. Is there a firmware out there which can make this happen. As i saw it myself, first he used a indicom sim and then took it out and used a gsm sim in the same slot. Both the time the internet got connected and speeds were good. I have been searching online but no luck in finding any firmware for this.
