err.. it might be since there are not many EVDO subscribers in my city..

and i reckon the tower is around a km from my house.. or rather the exchange

i generally download 1 - 1.5 GB of data in an hour or so..

Could you please mention the exact model no. and price of the Micromax data card. The speeds/price ratio you peeps are mentioning is very tempting
<
.

I don't have EVDO anymore, but when i did (had till summer of last year), even i remember getting consistent speeds of over 2mbps.

Got the Sprint 595U Card via SNS. Total Landing cost is 1300/- including shipping and custom(100Rs).

I have unlocked it using Sierra CDMA utility. This utility reset the SPC code to 00000 and now i can read all the info in CDMA Workshop by entering SPC code.

Now comes the activation part. contacted 1502 CDMA helpline. He said insert the R-UIM card from your old device to new device and PRL update would be OTA. if you device doesnt have R-UIM then visit the exchange and they will register your new device's ESN on your CDMA Number.

So will probably get it done tomorrow.

^ Thanks for the info. Even I have ordered one from the same seller as the price was tempting for a brand new piece (and I had some unused Amazon GCs
<
) Mine was delivered to SnS yesterday or so, should come in a week.

Can you post the link to the Sierra CDMA Utility? And did the modem come with the cradle?

^ Thanks. Does that mean we can change the ESN to anything? If so, you can just change it your existing ESN. Will save a trip to the exchange right?

All guys who have purchased or are purchasing 595U please use it with cradle or usb extension cable . The weight of datacard is so too much and it will be vertical which makes the usb joint loose and then its useless , have spoiled one card in this way

#[member='kuduku'] Thanx for the TIP.
<

#[member='varkey'] Yes that utility can change your ESN. But i am little afraid to do anything on this new card. lol.

So BSNL SDE added the new ESN in to their system and we loaded the all the settings and PRL via Zte PST tool. but that didnt work out. so I copied their PRL and Setting file to my Flash drive and left the exchange. well SDE was confident that this boy will do it on his own.

lol. SDE was shocked to see battery inside the DATA card. His reaction was like YEH BATTERY PE CHALTA HAI KYA ?

So i contacted #[member='kuduku'] and he helped me out we made some serious changes via QPST and CDMA DFS Tool in existing settings and I am online now via Sierra Wireless 595u. #[member='kuduku'] thanx a lot. without you it was not possible to configure.

On previous ZTE REV 0 Device - browsing was slow, speed was 200-240 KB fluctuating a lot.

On current Sierra REV A - Browsing is much much better due to REV A connectivity. and speed now doesn't fluctuate that much. constant 280-320 KB.

#[member='varkey'] Sprint SmartView wont work. download this utility from Sierra website.

^ Looks great!

Can't wait to get my modem, those SnS guys still haven't forwarded it from NY!

Btw can you post the steps you did to load the PRL and settings?

Another question to those using this, are you on Prepaid or Postpaid plan? Do you use the 825 STV if on prepaid?

@cisco of course you are sitting on tower , thats the best signal anyone can get . No external antenna can also get it below 50 . But enjoy your speed and happy downloading .

by the way cisco what was your signal strength at the same place whee ZTE device used to be there , for comparison sakes

#[member='kuduku'] DFS was showing me -68 on zte ac8700. And now Sierra showing -52 -55. Almost gain of -12 -15 db.

SDE loaded the PRL and ini File. I have those file as well as Saved ZTE AC8700 files. I can post both Files if you want. but SID or some config will be different. If you have Active EVDO device. Make BACKUP of your current settings via QPST and save them.

When you get your Sierra. just Restore it on Sierra and tell your exchnage to update the ESN.

There are some changes after loading the default prl and .ini file. either me or #[member='kuduku'] will help you out.

I have saved thescreenshot of all the windows of DFS and QPST config.

I am on 650(Old one) /- Unlimited Postpaid plan.

Upload speed is still same on REV A network. 15-18KBps. technically it supports 1.8 Mbps upload. Looks like BSNL has capped the upload speed.

They should have capped it atleast at 512 Kbps.

Ahh.. this is great fun. Downloading 700 MB files are now breeze. #[member='kuduku'] as you have mentioned previously let it settle the dongle for few days and after positioning the card to 1 best particular location. I am seeing the result now. Signal strength is now -48db.

and for the Upload speed i have confirmed with SDE and he told me that they have capped the speed to 128Kbps. His reason for slow upload speed was uploading is not that important. lol. but i have filled the Application for BSNL FTTH today so that might solve the upload speed as well. As few people have posted 3-4 Mbps upload speed on FTTH connection.

man you are going to rape them . Its first time in my life in forums i am reading that somebody had got signal strength less than -50db . I had tower 500 M away and the best i could get even with a patch external antenna was -51db . You are really going to enjoy this EVDO connection . What is the maximum download speed you have touched ? 370/400 ?? What is the consistent download speed now ? 370 i can see in idm screenshot . Theoretically you can get 396 as download speed .....

Another advise just buy a spare battery because this download mayhem continues then battery might die early or a discharge . LED will start blinking red meaning battery requires charge

and how much stuff you have downloaded sending somebody to your town with a HDD

please tell about this FTTH connection i will also take it . Who requires a seedbox with your type of connection

pmed you also

now guys please don't abuse EVDO usage as it is the only cheap free thing remaining.. don't want it to get capped too

Its inevitable dude and that too on TE where we members dont spare anything

Checkout the BSNL3G ipad unlimited plan , it was fine for quitesome time but once the system was abused BSNL removed the U/L plan for good.

PS: Not blaming anyone here. Talking in general.

#[member='kuduku'] it always settle between -46 to -49. Maximum i have touched is 385 KBps and consistently i get about 340-360 KBps. but during day time Max i get around 240-260KBps. because of active connection on tower.

I havent downloaded that much. Just few Linux distribution and few Apple Firmwares.

How long the battery will last ? 1 year ?

I have replied the details in FTTH thread here. http://www.techenclave.com/topic/486117-ftth-on-bsnl/#entry1750650

#[member='kauzy'] dont worry EV-DO is not that popular now after 3G launch.

i consistently got 280 in night and 180-200 in night . You are doing really well . My battery has swollen in 7/8 months under 24*7 downloading . It can run without battery also but then it kills the aim of buying this device . Still using the same battery though

@kauzy dont worry people dont get these speeds on their ZTE or micromax devices and if i presume correctly there are only 4 Sierra Wireless 595U modem in India functioning that too in different cities . Secondly BSNL doesnt have the mechanism where they flag your account individually if you are a heavy downloader
