BSNL EVDO - have some queries about speed and charges

Thanks, for the offer Varkey, let me see, what to do. Also i ended up buying 2 cards.As i had bid for one on Ebay some time back and forgotten which i ended up winning. So i am getting one from Amazon and one from Ebay. So will see what to do once i have both of them with me, also would be a good experience to see the landing cost of both of these as one has been bought directly by shop abroad and the other i will be sending to PPO box and then getting here.

Hopefully in another week's time i should get my stuff. Keeping my finger's crossed.

Well as of now i do not have any update on the status of these cards. Also it's the first time i have ordered something from US using this medium. Let them come in i anyways don't need two. Once i get them will let you know and you can pick it up. I am not in this for money.You can pay whatever the final landing cost comes up to. Just an FYI when i ordered those the conversion rate they charged was Rs 56 for one dollar as it was running high.I am yet to get the final quote from them.
So still waiting for an update on my order.

Its not working , the usb connector is broke . Thats why used the mini pci card otherwise would had

@plikmuny : There is no cradle with the modem. It's just the modem and battery that was listed.The one's listed with cradle were costing over 20$ shipped. The cost was 15$ shipped to US address this does not include the shipping cost,customs and other charges to India. I will get to know the same once they get the stuff. Post which they would contact. Roughly the costing should come up to : Item Price : Rs 840 . International Shipping Rs 665 , Duty & Taxes Rs 305. Total will come up to Rs 1810 . That's the quote i got for one of my modems. So expecting it to be around there. There was a discount coupon unfortunately it expired as it was valid only till 12th May.

One more thing, he suggested me to go & choose WiMax connection as it is recently launched in Tumkur... it has better reliability & same rental he said... i thought he was doing some advertisement on their newly launched service in tumkur & he was driving me to opt for WiMax connection...( 5k for total device of WiMax+ Installation charges of ~800rs... then monthly 750rs+ tax....)

Dont worry will help you in configuring it and its always better to buy with cradle . I have the spare not working due to this only . The weight of modem is too much for usb connector to last

Well u can connect a USB cable and use it, there is no need to connect it directly to the USB port on the laptop. Procuring just a cradle would be an expensive affair as along with shipping and customs it's cost would be high. Still i will keep a lookout and check for any offers on cradle.But isit logical to spend 1.5k on a cradle. Instead i would prefer using the same with usb cable.

coz i ordered a 595u few days ago and got a custom charge of Rs 924 ... even though it was priced at 12 USD . the estimated custom was ~Rs 320 but the custom officials declared the product for Rs 5000 , so had to pay more than expected

Rosysmile: The quote was given by Shop abroad and i bought the used modem for 15$. How can customs charge Rs5000 for an old used product.Does not make sense to me. Others have also ordered stuff using the same route and have not paid much duty and taxes. Please check with your provider and see, i hope they are not trying to rip you off. Rs 320 seems to be the correct amount of duty for the modem. Which provider did you ship from and to what location.

Yes, Nokia used to manufacture CDMA phones,have been using them for over 10 years now. Post buying the sim the first thing i did after coming home was to check if it got activated. So i put the sim in my Nokia 6585 phone. I am able to make and receive calls. Getting around 4 bars of signal in my phone. Check if anyone near your place has bsnl evdo connection. Worse case scenario you can buy a prepaid sim and use it in a cdma phone to track coverage and signal strength.

Contact SnS, they did the same thing for me and the duty was charged on Rs 2500 which came to about Rs 475. I mailed them and they revised it to Rs 200.

It was a $12 item and I had sent the invoice way before, still they messed up.
