Contact SnS, they did the same thing for me and the duty was charged on Rs 2500 which came to about Rs 475. I mailed them and they revised it to Rs 200.

It was a $12 item and I had sent the invoice way before, still they messed up.
no reply to my email ? busy .....

thats pathetic what do u say sir ??? Dushie bro, is it really worth doing that much circus to get an internet ? i mean just because it comes with no FUP is the only reason that is driving me to go for it...
anyway, thanks for the information regarding CDMA of Nokia. i seriously didnt know that fact about it.... i was not pulling ur legs... pls dont mind...
how r u using ur RUIM ? whats the speed u r getting in ur current device ? can u pls post the screen shot here for all of us ?

[/COLOR Dushie bro, phones like nokia 6585 are basic phones. they r cdma 1x, they wont show EVDO signal i guess... i mean they cant differentiate whether there is an EVDO signal or 1X signal in ur area right ???

Well plikmuny,

For me it's the challenge and excitement of getting this done and pulling it through. I already have BSNL 4 Mbps plan that has a limit of 30 GB which gets over very fast and Airtel 3G which i am using for internet via mobility. Along with this i also have a BSNL 3g prepaid connection that i put to good use in December 2010 when we had the unlimited offer on.My signature still has the speeds i was getting on my UMG 1831.

I wanted to try EVDO out for a long time but never got the time and opportunity. After reading the posts of Kuduku, cisco_tech and varkey i got excited and they have been supportive in providing information special thanks to Varkey as he has been responding to all my messages and has been guiding me for over 2 weeks now.

If i am able to get good download speeds i will be happy as it will serve the purpose. Also i already have a cradle point router at home that has USB port. So once i set up my connection i will just connect the Sierra card to the router and use it via wifi and across all the equipments in my house.

As far as Nokia phone is concerned i used it to check signal strength and coverage that was my main purpose. As my location had an EVDO tower but signal and coverage was the question. I am still keeping my fingers crossed as you never know.

I am sure you will feel why the heck go through so much trouble, as it's just internet, that's another school of thought and depends from individual to individual. That's all i can say.

even i like challenges bro.... i am also like u only... keep trying/experimenting new things about technology.....
i wish to try it out once these modems comes....
can u post the screen shot of download speed in ur current device pls ???

Currently i do not have a device as i have already ordered the card.I need one for temporary basis to read the card and configure the 595U with the help of the team here. I am looking out for a used modem in which i can get cheap and i can resell later on once my work is done. But till now have not been able to get my hands on one, so the search continues.

First modem status : Has reached shop abroad and they are shipping it out to India.
Second modem status : Still waiting for an update from the provider. The seller said he has shipped the modem to them 2 days back. Once they get the same they would reach out and send the quote for shipping, taxes etc.I have dropped an email to them to look into it. Waiting for confirmation and quote from them.

Your screenshot makes the wait for my modem even more exciting. Getting those speeds on EVDO is awesome. Had a question, how much signal strength would be sufficient to get good speeds. Inside my house i am getting around 3 odd bars in my nokia phone. Outside it goes up to 4 bars. Also what is the usual coverage of the EVDO tower is it around 3 kms or more. As whatever i have read online says upto 3km its good. Also i saw couple of your earlier post in the forum where you have mentioned about antennas. Are you using any antenna currently.

did u purchase modems separately ??? if the price what u had quoted for me was for the first device, then for sure the second device's price would definitely be even more high.... hmm.... :no2:
that would put quite a decent hole in my pocket.... :23: waiting for further inputs about the device delivery date & price.... :O

Kuduku Bro : Do u call it as average speed ??? my goodness.... that is waesome speed for EVDO i guess... i know u can still get better speeds with good signal reception.... but its a very good speed with no FUP & that too for 750/-rs right ?
where r u from bro ? not many EVDO users near ur tower i guess.... enjoy....

plikmuny: Yes,i bought the modems separately, why would i buy 2 modems, when i need only one. First one was direct buy through amazon and second was won through a bid, which i made and forgot. Until i don't get a quote from the forwarder i have no idea of landing cost.Once they send the costing would get to know the same. i don't think it would happen this week. So hopefully next week would get further update on the same.

my present signal strength is -80dbm with an external patch antenna . It shows all bars except one in sierra wireless watcher dashboard . Download Speeds were around 250+ in nights but these days high winds are screwing the antenna every day . Its a normal patch antenna given by BSNL for their CDMA FWP service sets with additional pigtail purchased from ebay.com
The tower is quite far . At my last location when tower was 500M signal strength was -52dbm and cisco is getting -48 dbm and download speeds of 370 so you can compare

Tower is quite far and yes NO FUP and 750 bucks per month

I guess it largely depends on the number of users in the area, I get around -60 dBm at some locations and I barely get 500 kbps. So as long as there are less EVDO users in your area, even with lower signal levels you should get good speeds! :)

kudku: Now you have me interested in this.I would search online on the patch antenna and pigtail, just in worse case scenario if i require one.Locally i don't know if we would be able to get one.
I found one on this link : Panel Antenna
Which has few manufacturers details.
CDMA Patch Panel Antenna/Idea CDMA Antenna/BSNL CDMA Antenna/Relience CDMA Antenna - Pantagone Satellite .
you are on the right track , Get the patch antenna from BSNL only . they have lots of spare , give the store holder something .
Pigtail from ebay , i will check my ebay for the link

the other end is wrong for our antenna , modem end is fine . there is a chinese seller on ebay.com from whom i got , let me find the lik

@kuduku bro: cant we do it ourselves ??? is that so hard ?just post the screen shot of ur antenna, we will see whether we can try imitating & getting it ready for ourselves....ok ??? i mean is that so hard to do it ourselves ?

That;s strange as the seller has posed that this cable will work with 595u. Let me know the chinese seller details.Meanwhile will try and dig up more on antenna.

First modem has reached mumbai yesterday, the latest status online shows it reached Mumbai customs on 25th May.
