English TV series discussion

The Dexter finale was indeed a hard pill to swallow. Unlike most guys here, I started the series by binge watching it over the past couple of months since I so loved the character and the actor. Character development was severely lacking for leading figures while that for the support cast was non-existent. Read a couple of reviews of the finale and both articles invoked BrBa while mercilessly bashing Dexter. Dexter's writers are bad enough; they were made to look even worse as the series was aired in tandem with BrBa. I couldn't help but wonder what sort of treatment the Dexter character would have been given in the hands of a more accomplished writing team. Michael Hall is great, no doubt, but what heights he and his character would have reached when steered by people like Vince Gilligan (rhetorical question this).
Read the alternative ending which was given by the original showrunner.
“And everybody is going to think, ‘Oh, it was a dream.’ And then the camera pulls back and back and back and then we realize, ‘No, it’s not a dream,’” he explained.
So, what happens to everyone’s beloved serial killer?

“Dexter’s opening his eyes and he’s on the execution table at the Florida Penitentiary,” Phillips continued. “They’re just starting to administer the drugs and he looks out through the window to the observation gallery.”

Inside the gallery would be all the people that Dexter killed over the seasons. Fans would get to say one last goodbye to the Trinity Killer, the Ice Truck Killer, LaGuerta, Rita, Doakes, and Lila, along with “whoever the weekly episodic kills were.”

“That’s what I envisioned for the ending of ‘Dexter,’” the original showrunner wrapped up. “I think it would have been a great, epic, very satisfying conclusion.”

That's a lot better.

Arrested Development - Done
Its sunny in Philly - Done till S09E03 (latest)

About the Red John thing, i am getting a feeling that...

Red John is no one else but the main guy himself. (Patrick Jane). I know it sounds totally crazy.

The showrunner has culled that theory. But you can never say.

There are lots of shows which have / will end in a way that majority of users don't approve of. Lost is one of them for me. But you gotta live with it. Also as they say, it is the journey which is more important than the destination.

Considering the note we ended last season culling just means they have even non-sensical or dues ex machina type ending written. I mean in Patrick Jane's own words - he never told anyone about it and then it wasn't a person rather a "memory" - which is just insane to think anyone could guess that.

I doubt that. Mentalist is pretty good.
Have you watched White Collar?

Tired of doing reruns... No internet to get the new shows for around 1.5 months now :(

That is why i procure when i can for such cases when i may be without internet. Since i stay in rented place and if i change place, there is a high change no ISP might be there and i will have to rely on 3G and downloading on 3G is not what i want to do. So only time i can download things is when i go to my home in Mumbai which is like once a month.

Well, we were stuck in a flood and power outage over the last two days (things've improved now although the flood scares still continue) we caught up with Dexter's finale, the penultimate episode of BrBa and a few episodes of Broadchurch.

Dexter's finale wasn't any promising to be honest nor did the two of us have the slightest of expectations from this episode having dragged the series this far. I recall watching the series starting 2008 May or so after the recommendations from this forum and there used to be a dedicated thread for the serial in this section! I had the highest regard for this serial esp. after the conclusion of the fourth season and the show just plummeted downhill after that. The storyline went very vague and the characters were completely uninspiring at best. I am glad the series wrapped up finally.

The last bits between Dex and Deb left me a bit sentimental though. It was raining outside, there was no power and an eerie of silence around.

The parting scene wherein he carries her dead body to his boat. For a moment, Dex euthanising Deb made me recall that sequence from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest when Billy (character name from the movie) smothers Jack Nicholson to death and escapes the metal institution.

I did wish they never showed that last sequence though - Dex faking his death i.e. What could be the possible motive behind this sequence? Like a post-credits sequence. Premise for the next spin-off or something

As for BrBa, I am sure the series will wrap up in the best way it could. What with the showrunner Gilligan himself scripting and directing the finale (and probably executive producing it along with Cranston himself). This is one of the rare shows which has never gone wrong in terms of story progression. The finale is titled 'Felina' which is an anagram for finale itself! Or Fe Li Na for Iron (Fe), Lithium (Li) - a major component for the production of meth and Sodium (Na) for salt/tears. There's a huge discussion regarding this over at Reddit - http://www.reddit.com/r/breakingbad/comments/1kj79c/prediction_season_5_episode_16_felina/

Also caught up with a few episodes of Broadchurch - 4 done, 4 more to go. Very good progression.

Besides, I am not sure if this was mentioned before in the thread but the 65th Emmy awards was announced last Sunday. BrBa and Homeland won 2 each! Outstanding Drama, Best Supporting Actress (Skyler - Anna Gunn) for BrBa and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama (Claire Daines - second time in a row! Hell yeah I just loved her in the show!), Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series. Good stuff.

Oh and Person of Interest began airing starting yesterday! Sons of Anarchy's third episode must also be out. Can't wait to get back home now. :playful:

Weak start for PoI, but it was expected after the jarring finale last season. I have a feeling that the excitement of the show will stumble drastically as it moves forward.
