English TV series discussion

I've been meaning to pick up Modern Family. However, I'd like to know if there is any current show you could closely associate it with? Is it consistent with the humour?
It's a mockumentary family comedy. The pleasant thing about it is that it's all clean humor.
Not since Seinfeld has a show not had to resort to any kind of dirty humor and still manage to be consistently funny season after season.

Very highly recommended. Modern Family and Curb Your Enthusiasm are probably the best comedies on TV currently.
There are other good ones (30 Rock, Archer, Community, etc.) but nothing compares to those 2.

I havent seen the Sutherland's 24, and hence felt more compelled to pick up the Indian version of the series and give it a shot.

Production Values and Casting choices are excellent!
I longed to see such common sense being executed, and finally it did happen. The series started off nicely, keeping away the cliched Hindi movie 'norms' out of it's way and it worked wonderfully well too. Towards the end, something like the last two episodes, i felt it had allowed a little slack to creep in. Maybe tried to stretch a bit to complete the season without dwelling too much into the next season's matter, but the old stale stuff was def there.

7.8/10
Was easily beyond 8 earlier, but it did slipped a bit towards the end.

Would like to hear other people's thoughts on this series. :)

Just started watching Bates motel, so far quite enjoying it.... Vera Farmiga rocks... It's good to see Movie star doing a good TV show..

Finally have been able to dig my teeth into the wire and on the 7th episode of the 1st season...

it has been difficult for me to get past the 1st episode...mainly due to Non HD quality

But due to repeated recommendations...I made a concious effort, and I am glad I did..it is turning out to be a fine series...I hope it gets better as the characters keep developing...

PS: need subtitles for this one with the highly accented english

It's from a time when widescreen and hd weren't there but sure is a fun atmospheric ride. Enjoy

Is it already over? Started on 4th Oct, so I guess should be around 8-9 hrs till now? Series is a scene by scene, character to character copy from 24 so I dont think anyone who saw the original will be able to give any standalone opinion. I watched 2 episodes, aside from obvious 24 comparisons, I think it does have some good production values, though I fear the ending will be more cliched than the original 24. I am not sure if they will be able to set in the actual 24 season 1 ending.

No, the season doesnt seems to be over. My post made it look like as if the season 1 is done, but that should not be the case. (Apologies regarding that)
Season2 is supposed to be based on 2008 attacks, and hence they should not end S1 already. However, dates for Ep11 and beyond havent been revealed on imdb yet.

Every Ep is ~45 mins. So 7.5 hrs already.
I do not expect it to be slick as the original series, i only expected the script to be done crisply and executed with due diligence. That seems to have been achieved. I also expect it to be a bit tuned up to suit the Indian emotional taste, but that ll be the part to look forward to. The 'Indian touch' wont be possible without some melodrama, and it prolly has creeped in already. How they ll manage to see-saw between that sentiment and switch back to sharpness is what i want to see.

I mean hours as in the 24 count wise :p ie so only 10hrs done (1 episode = 1hr = 45 mins airtime). And my point was about the script, as you haven't seen the original 24, there is a difference between David Palmer and Aditya Singhania characters. This in all probability will make the difference towards the reason as to why they want to kill him and how it actually ends. I can assure you it will be more like the "Indian Touch" you have ever seen.

Anybody here who watches "The Good Wife"?

I've somehow gotten hooked on to this one... caught up with all the seasons/episodes in 2 weeks flat :D

I liked the pilot of Sleepy Hollow. Doesn't seem to take itself seriously and I like the characters introduced.

The first episode of Dracula was decent but I don't think I will watch the show. They seem to already be deeply in the will-they-won't-they relationship angst that seems to permeate all american television.

Started watching Breaking Bad regularly, halfway into the 2nd season. Is it just me or the credit/theme reminds of the far cry 2 musics ? :D

Almost done with the second season of Sons of Anarchy. This season has picked up the pace and I beginning to appreciate it's quality now. Quite sad what happened to Gemma, but she pretty strong to carry the weight on her own. BTW Zobelle's daughter, Polly, she's a total knock-out.

@saumilsingh : Thanks! I'll pick up Modern Family once I complete Hustle.

@red-devil : I'm eying on 'The Good Wife' as well. A friend of mine recommended it, but it got buried under my "To be watched" list.

The Wire gets a lot better in the coming Seasons, while S02 is mostly considered the 'worst' Season, I found it amongst the best as it took the risk of moving away from the central story arc to give us a background into how the drug business operates .. and introduces some long term characters.

You definitely need subtitles to understand that Baltimore accent .. especially with the street lingo.
"He got to get got" translates to "Somebody needs to kill him" :p

The show has some of the most memorable dialogues, you wouldn't want to miss any of them.
There is more character development on the criminal side than the cop side.

The non-HD Square ratio essentially gives it authentic 'documentary' style unpolished feel ..

I started watching it last to last year when I had lots of free time on my hands. I felt they meandered through most of the seasons, specially with the "will-they-won't-they relationship angst" as @whatsinaname put it. The current season has got interesting with the whole firing and starting a new firm thing. And the episode about the Chumhum vs US was funny; specially the ending.
