Shall I go for Intel or Ryzen?

Hey all,

I am from Kolkata and I am planning to build a gaming rig. I would need your advice and expertise in order to do so. I would welcome all the offline shops and online shops as well. My budget is 120K ( INR)
Please be informed, I will need Processor, Motherboard, RAM, GPU, Cooler, and an SSD. I already had a CMS Stormstyker (Chasis) since 2012 and an 850W (PSU) from Corsair since 2017

Kindly quote me two Gaming RIG (1,00,000 and 1,20,000)

I can give you a list on Priority sequence:
1. Motherboard
2. PSU ( consider upgrading it )
These two You should not compromise with your budget but good MOBO and PSu as You wont be upgrading these in near future.
3. Processor (Latest Ryzen 3)
4. GPU (RTX 3060ti)
5. RAM (16 gb for now )
6. Monitor ( 24" 144hz)

You should get them in <=100k

What resolution are you targeting? What games do you plan on playing? What is the exact model of you're corsair PSU?
For 1080p, an AMD RX 6700 would be fine, and if you step it up to 1440p, the RX 6700 XT or RX 6800 XT or RTX 4070/Ti is something you'd want to aim for.

The i5-12500 is a locked Cpu what's the point of getting a Z series Motherboard?

12400f sells for 12k-13k and 12500 is going for 19.5k ish why would you pay extra 6k for like 4-8% gains.
And 12600k sells for 23k having a Z series motherboard would make sense here.

But then the 7600x sells for 19k + a b650 mobo for 19k + 16x2 6000MHz 10k + KC3000 1tb ~7k + AK400 for like 3k will come out to be ~58k
+better CPU
+Will probably have a better future upgrade path than the Intel Build
+Faster RAM
+Faster and better SSD
-Less storage capacity

Do not get the NV2 as your boot drive. If you really want 2tb get SN570 it's like 2k more or the KC3000 2tb for 12k but is a much better SSD.
I would say get a KC3000 1tb for 7k as your boot drive and maybe later get an NV2 as your game drive.

IMO get a R5 7600 based rig. Prices have fallen down compared to launch price making it a better choice for gamers. Do not cheap out on mobo, Gigabyte B650M DS3H is good, check Hardware Unboxed VRM testing for mobos.

CPU cooler - Deepcool AK400 will suffice, check Gamers Nexus review
 
In terms of longevity, would you prefer Intel or Ryzen? It's a known fact AMD processors or GPUs do heat up pretty severely irrespective of the cooler. I like Intel over AMD. I have no idea, as I bought my gaming RIG 11 years back.

My old Spec and still somehow serving but now really putting a tortoise to it's the same because it's very very slow.

CPU- i7 3770K
Mobo - Asus ROG 5
GPU - Nvidia GTX 680

Please note, along with gaming, I would also do work on Photoshop, Excel, etc.
 
No doubt ryzen cpu are not easy to handle when Ocing them even a little and even at idle they consume more than intel if you undervolt it then it is good....i had 2700x as my first ryzen cpu worked very good for me....at idle also it was good....at full load never went over 80C that too with a cheap deepcool cpu heatsink which costed like 1500 in 2020.....then upgraded to 3700x.....didn't work that good....couldn't control it better than 2700x then downgraded to 3600xt....same issue then had to undervolt it reduce heat and idle power.....so it depends....if u can play with it and have that time....it is very good otherwise u will not like it.
 
I do understand, most of you prefer Ryzen over Intel. I like Ryzen but not its heating issue. Another thing, I have no urge to overclock my CPU or GPU. I am just against the overclock thing. So, I think it will be more easier for you now to suggest to me what should be my overall gaming rig more of like.

I have already given you a configuration which fits in your budget.. your only job is to find a config which beats my config (7600+A620M+6000CL30+4070 TI) in performance.. (heres a tip: it doesnt exist if you are only looking at new parts) if you are unable to do so! you have your answer.

there are also cheaper b650m bnoards available now from gigabyte.. so feel free to let go of the a620m and go for a b650 one.

There is a kind of problem with Galax in Kolkata. Kaizen is the service center that does this on behalf of them but in terms of replacing they are very very lame. They intend to hold onto their ground and refrain from replacing. On the other hand, Asus and Zotac both have great service centers and are very cooperative. This is the spec that I am thinking about, please let me know, and feel free to add, modify or subtract.

Okay, I think I need to do extensive research before buying and that will take time. But yes, I will keep asking you all. Advance apologies for bugging :p

I see parts that are overpriced or not required (990 pro, AIO). That B650 Gaming X is a good enough mobo, but its cheaper in other places.

I will agree on preferring Asus, Gigabyte, Zotac or MSI over Inno3D, Galax, AsRock or Sapphire for GPU brands.

R7 7700 + 4070 + 2x16GB DDR5 6000 CL30 for 125k

100k rig, same as above but with 6750XT as GPU (6750XT is much faster than 3060, higher VRAM helps it be a better choice over 4060Ti/3070 8GB for similar performance in games)

Another 100k rig which will be faster for gaming but lower productivity performance - R5 7600+ 6800:
Downgrades in RAM (6000 CL36) & Cooler won't be noticeable. I know 6800XT from AsRock/Sapphire is a few thousand more, but the after sales is the issue. If you want to gamble on GPU not getting any issue to use after sales, can consider AsRock/Sapphire 6800XT. Sapphire will be well built vs AsRock for sure.

For a gaming rig, a Ryzen 5 7600 is the maximum you'll need. It's good in productivity tasks as well, so going for a Ryzen 7 7700 is absolutely not needed here.
Always prioritize your GPU first, since that's what your games will majorly revolve around. Going from an RTX 4070 to 4070 Ti is a much much more appreciable difference then going from a 7600 to a 7700, especially when the Ryzen 5 7600 and Ryzen 7 7700 perform exactly then same.

A Gen4 SSD drive is not needed as well. Any PCIe Gen3 drives speeds upto 2k Gbps on read and writes will do 99% of the job of the best Gen4 drive out there.

For cooler, stock cooler is enough, but if you want some anesthetics, you can consider the Coolermaster Hyper 212 Halo or Deepcool AK400.

Okay, I have decided to build a rig on Intel instead of Ryzen. Ryzen is not good at handling multi-tasking and has heat issues too. I would request you all to give me RIG based on Intel. Along with gaming, photoshop, Excel, filmora, ms office will be run.

Not true, in fact the Ryzen 5 7600 is actually sometimes better then the Intel counterparts.

The heat thing is not an issue, its something AMD tunes Ryzen processors to do, so that it can achieve maximum frequencies and still be safe while operating at higher temperatures. This can be ignored.

The only other resource demanding task you have is Filmora, which you can run on your future RTX 40 series GPU with the AV1 codec for exports. Timeline sliders will work fine as well, you'll have good GPU acceleration to prevent choppiness.

Besides, an Intel rig will only end up costing more,-

Decide on your priority - if you will mostly use the PC for productivity tasks or gaming. As mentioned earlier, R5 7600 will outperform even Intel in single core loads, but i5 13500 will surely outperform it in multicore productivity tasks. SC perf is more important for gaming.

Regarding heating, if you are someone who is not comfortable with UV & tuning CPU, just get non X Ryzen 7000. Recommendations above has been R5 7600 or R7 7700, both of which have a power limit, so is not bound to try to hit 95C temp & boost freq as much as possible.

The performance difference between R5 7600X & R5 7600 is not huge but power draw & temps will be much lower. Check Gamers Nexus & Hardware Unboxed reviews. 7600X vs 7600 freq difference might be like 200MHz.
