If you are planning on a monitor upgrade anytime soon...

As for PSU..again..same as DarkAngel suggested.

yup it is ! but with the new games coming 5870 would be a better choice :) !

so selecting a gpu is always about the budget thing :P

xfx makes decent cards and in op's case he wont have local warranty and a.s.s doesnt matter.

But if getting a card with local warranty then xfx a.s.s is handled by rashi and is not good.
hes buying from america ! What does rashi have to do with it ! He wont get warranty !

well let me paint you a clear picture of the situation actually my friend is getting the card from the US not me and he can ONLY get it from there becasue his sis is getting it for him.

he doesnt game that much :P he plays a bit of action adventure games during free time and thats it most of the time is rig will be on as he downloads a LOT so i want a 5770 which doesnt idle at high temperatures and is rocksteady

so i suggested

Newegg.com - XFX HD-577A-ZNFC Radeon HD 5770 (Juniper XT) 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

or

Newegg.com - XFX HD-577X-ZNFC Radeon HD 5770 1GB 128-bit DDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

i also suggested sapphire vapour x which comes with free shipping and 10$mai lin rebate but i think its a bit of an over kill for his needs so he is willing to go with the xfx its good rite?
if you are getting it from US then get sapphire.

they honour international warranty.

should cost your around 23-24k only..
look for MSI or Sapphire..

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

Just confirmed from a friend of mine, he bought Sapphire 5870 for 22.5k in 1st week of May.
The price should be now around 21k.

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

is GTX 470 worth considering?? i've found that its better than 5850 and somewhat close to 5870. really is it?

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

i have read some reviews about 470, it seems close to 5870, i am waiting for a price drop of 5870/5850, hope it will drop with release of 460, at this point of time prices are bit high!!

GTX470 runs very hot..
it touches 100 C at load..
If you are living in a very well air conditioned place..
then you can get it...
But a HD 5870 tops it..

If you have already set on HD5870..no need to give it a second though..

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

and what about 5850? where does it stands in the competition?
i know the benchmarks favour 5870. But being money conscious, and consider future games (1-2 years), and a relative price drop coming in soming time, does a 5850 Vapor-X stand near to 470 or 5870.
I've made my mind on these three card: (HD 5850 Toxic (17.5k), GTX 470 (18k, getting a deal), HD 5870 Reference version (20.5k).
I've a budget of around 18k. Can add several bucks if i get a relative performance.
But im confused in respect to the above said questions, that what to choose and go for.

Maybe Ragz, you can get me out of this trouble. What you've had chosen if you were me?

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

the 5850 and the 470 outdo each other in games that are customized for the respective manufacturers ... with 470 having the slight edge over the 5850 ... the 5870 is a lot better then both these cards ... ( all these at stock) ... i have not read much about a overclocking gtx 470 ... but i have personaly pushed my 5850 to more then 200 Mhz over the stock core ( 951 core and 1251 Ram using stock cooler) at these values i was still getting relatively cool 66C as maxed out temp in vantage the performance of the the card became almost similar to that of a stock HD 5870 ....

If you really are into serious hardcore gaming and at HD resolution...it should be the HD 5870 eyes closed..
GTX 470 i wont recommend at this time...it runs extremely hot and is more of a power hog than both the HD5850 and HD5870..

If you plan on going for the HD 5850..dont go for the toxic at 17.5k..a twin frozr at 16.5 makes more sense...

Remember...to get a good PSU if you buy any of these cards..a corsair VX550 would do the job..

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

well, is it good to buy 5850 (20.5) at this point of time when we are expecting a new lineup to be launched very soon and prices cutting down any time.

The upcoming cards are mainstream one...the GTX 460 and the GF104 line up...
these wont be high end like the HD 5870..
so i dont think there will be a huge price cut...the time where a drastic change maybe seen is when the ATI 6XXX launches..that is most porbably Q1 2011....so..getting a new card at this point of time is a good idea..
you can wait for two weeks..
nvidias new cards are to be out on 11th of july..in the foreign market....if there is a little price cut..good for you..
so waiting for a couple of weeks makes sense..

Re: The Graphic Card Advisor

hmmm... i'll probably wait, and will meanwhile search for good deals on used cards.
