Reliance Wimax connection

Posting from my Reliance Wimax connection which got installed 2 hours back. My biggest fear was the ping and packet loss on Wimax. Getting stable 35ms pings to Reliance servers without ANY loss or spikes - so Wimax is working perfectly here. They have 3 antennas in this area- 1 1/2km, 1km and ~1/2km away. Speeds are pretty bad to International servers thanks to the damaged undersea link. Local sites are frigging fast though. Pings are BAD (over 350ms to pretty much every server)- which again could be a temporary routing change due to the submarine link problem. Torrents give decent speeds ~35-37KB/s. While browsing, speeds are generally 35-40KB/s and some spikes upto 50-60KB/s on a 300kbps scheme, so thats pretty nice.

Move from my old ISP maybe worth it? 20% cheaper and 30% faster Yes, I think so.. :P Plus! no packet loss that originated on my LAN itself but I'm really hoping that international link gets fixed quickly.

At the moment, it's ~350ms with a bit of packet loss. Got the connection this morning so I have no clue if its always like this or just because of the submarine link going down. Funky might know what its like usually. He said once that the Singapore pings are very good and the same about pings to servers in Bombay, so this could be a temporary thing. Also, there's one V-Street (South) server thats on Exatt and pinging 50-60ms and the rest 300-400. Connection still is VERYYYYYY slow for browsing but torrents are faster in comparison. Damn submarine link, get well soon! :P

hey guyzz..... ...

Today is my first post on this site.....actually i was looking out for reliance wi-max and my search brought me here.....i'm frm Delhi....my cuzn has taken the franchise of this wi-max thing and he asked me to buy it and he said thats its real good n all and even i got satisfied after talking 2 him but after doing this little research on net bout this wi-max.....i'am totally lost  now cuz the majority says that this wi-max is a joke and another trick by reliance to fool everybody....and there is no denying the fact that reliance has the world's worst after sales-service.....

And even here in this forum there is only one guy I see whos defending reliance wi-max and doing the best he can :hap2:

So can anyone really guide me about this reliance wi-max......i'll be more then glad....thnx..

I used to have the DHCP trouble when I got my connection, but within 3-4 days that issue stopped bothering.. I am happy with my connection now. Only thing I dont like is unavailability of an always-on connection. I hate to login every time I start my PC.

Firstly, Welcome to TE volka!

I hope I'm not the guy you're talking of defending Reliance Wimax connections :P I have to say, Wimax is actually pretty good! If you're located suitably close to the nearest antenna or have clear line of sight to it, I think it works amazing like in my case. I ping the gateway for hours 35-40ms without any packet loss! Wimax means no downtime during power cuts, no cable cuts, no packet loss due to faulty hubs and switches.... Let the rains come, I wonder what that'll do!

The speeds they provide have been much more than satisfactory here. My only complaint is the routing - 300ms to almost every Indian server other than those hosted on Reliance! Singapore and rest of Asia are 150ms and higher. Any other gamers (TF2 players) on Reliance with similar problems? Also, what pings do you guys get to your gateways? Post post.... :P

^^ Whas ur upload speeds, things have improved a lil on my end too. But the packet losses remain once in 5-10 pings to the gateway.. Reliance cant seem to fix that issue...

Upload speeds aren't much. I think somewhere around 3-4KB/s at best. I should tilt my antenna sometime. It's pointing upwards a little too much atm, maybe that'll get pings down. Oh and pings to FS have dropped to 200 from 300-350 today. VS remains the same.

So the upload speeds issue, is not a stray case, wonder how funky is able to get good speeds. That said last night I was avging just 7 kbps on torrents whereas http is giving me 35 kbps avg....

So u ain't getting any problem ????

So are you guys reccommending me this thing or what ???

If it's gud then i'll definitely opt it.....currently i'm having mtnl broadband n its working ohk but sometimes it goes nuts.....n i really dunno much bout ping n packets n all......i'm a rookie in this field.....

Hmm I have been noticing pathetic speeds on public torrents, in the range of 7-10 kbps, private tarckers working fine, but ratio goes for a toss due to the pathetic upload speeds. Anyone has noticed this anomaly ?

Uploads are pretty good at my end. I always end up seeding the torrents more than 1.5/2 times.

Upload is still going strong here.

The upload issue is with select servers of reliance. Unless you guys complain a lot to customer care ( just keep dropping emails or call on 1800 no ) they wont bother fixing it.

Without even trying I am uploading a lot more than my downloads. Over 1TB uploaded so far.

What ip range you are getting itss 2xx.2xx.xx.xx

or 124.xxx.xxx.xx?

123.236.29.xx

I have become tired of complaining, those idiots keep saying issue is fixed, but I never get over 7-8 Kbps upload speed

Messa too applied for reliance wi-max after the crappy service from tati indicamod broadband :@

Connection is coming on 23rd! Muhahahahahaha :P

i am getting constant 60-70k upload and download on private trackers
My only gripe is that i really cannot surf, since http requests take for ever and time out most of the time. I even changed to opendns but that has not solved my problems...still i am happy can finally download all the movies i want and more

Hmm i was suppose to get my connection today :S

Hope so i get my connection by monday atleast, coz my tata connection expires on monday :|
