Greetings All,

The phone is now selling for 13999/- as the promo deal is over on saholic.com ..any way of getting it for lesser through websites (convenient)...as i haven't checked in shops etc.

Trying to answer some of the posts:

@akitosforever -> Yes .. even I get noisy/blurred and a little dark pictures in tube light.

Regarding books, i usually take the camera near enough, and just press the take picture button and let it focus and take the picture without my intervention. Words looked fine to me (at least on the phone). Did not check in PC. Infact didnt use camera to take much pics at all so far :) Perhaps someone who has taken pics can post.

@aka911 -> 1) Voice quality to me seems perfectly fine. Others seem to hear me fine too. Not sure about noisy environments because didnt have to try. Used on roads which were not toooooo loud and didnt find any cause for complaining.

2) Morning alarm is loud enough (that too I keep in the pouch) for me. The vibration could have been stronger and the speakers a little better coz the speaker cracks sometimes at the fullest volume. One notch below the fullest is fine to me.

3) Cannot compare the screens much but to me its fine. It may not be as great as some other phones but it did not cause me any problems as such. As I said earlier in the thread, the google maps doesnt rotate (not talking abt accelerometer here) with 2 fingers. After a lot of attempts it sometimes rotates a little. But anyway .. the autorotate does it for me so no issues. Probably the multitouch is not so great and accurate. But pinch zooming works acceptably. Havent use a lot of touch screen phones before (except Moto Rokr E6 Resistive screen. After that this works like a charm)

@seawat_itpro -> I have not done many CPU intensive tasks but I do find it to get pretty hot when I use GPS (probably the map rendering is CPU intensive). Battery charging @ socket also makes it a little hot but no issues. Once I felt WiFi was making it hot too but I had just disconnected it from charging so perhaps it was hot from there.

Not so sure about camera. Barely used it. Took few pics in daytime. Was Ok.

Also are you really the Galaxy S @ 18980? Or the galaxy SL ?? Since the Galaxy S is discontinued, most shopkeepers have started referring to the SL (i9003) by S (i9000). In fact one of my friends bought a Galaxy SL unknowingly and said in facebook that he got a S. The SL wont have amoled instead it will have Super LCD which once again may be better still. Not so sure about GPU perfomance coz I wont be doing gaming. Have my great PC for that :)

A scratch guard comes applied with the phone and a leather pouch too. So far no case and new scrath guard. Even I was looking. Heard HTC HD7 and Desire HD cases fit this one fine. Yet to get my hands on those too though on ebay they are avaialable but I wanted to try first. The Micro HDMI cable can be from anywhere. U can get one easily off ebay or perhaps locally under 200. Yet to try though.

Perhaps someone knowing of some manufacturers can get em to make cases, scratch guard and an HDMI cable as a box set :D

Can you post some pics of the books that you have taken where the words are legible.....damn I cant come to terms with so unnatural colours when the dark lighting.

On the other side, the pictures are quite acceptable in broad day light.

Also can any one tell , if one can zoom in while capturing videos, I couldnt figure out a way.

Cheers

Hi Guys,

I'm a new member to this forum. I was considering buying this phone as at the current price it gives the best value for money. But there are a couple of things because of which I'm confused now. Request your guidance:

1. Some people have reported that the phone becomes very hot when doing CPU intensive tasks. Could someone please let me know if this is something that can be taken care of by upgrading to GB which might result in judicious CPU utilization?

2. The camera may not be top notch but is it good enough for occasional photography? I would like to know about the Camera lag and TAT when taking still photographs and also if there is an option for taking photographs in a burst mode.

3. Samsung Galaxy S is available for a price of 18980/- from IndiaPlaza.in (6 months vendor warranty 8 GB version for a price diff of ~ 5K). Would it make sense to go for the same since:
a. the GPU PowerVR SGX 540 on Galaxy S is far superior to Adreno 205 on this phone
b. AMOLED display of Samsung Galaxy S against LCD here
c. Cyanogenmod support for Galaxy S as against no official Cyanogenmod for this and also the official GB upgrade is in the offing.

4. What about the accessory support for this.. do we have a leather case, scratch guard and the micro HDMI cable available for this from Spice?

Sorry in case you guys feel I'm asking for too much.

Regards
Sandy

1. The Phone doesn't become too hot in Froyo and after upgrading to Gingerbread that problem is solved. so no worries.

2. Default camera has no burst mode but I think you can install an application from the market which supports burst mode. "Fast Burst Camera" can be used (Sorry its not free, but you can try alternates) and there is no camera lag as which I've seen on Gingerbread.

3. I surely say Go with Samsung Galaxy S if you don't need flash light and HDMI.
a. the GPU adreno 205 is powerful enough for playing most of the games.
b. you cannot really see much difference. (My brother has Nokia N8 which also has AMOLED and I can't see much of a difference)

4. Yes, Spice provides with a leather case, a plastic sheet (sort of scratch guard) pasted on the screen (But you can paste HTC HD 7 scratch guard on this) and No HDMI cable from spice.

I'm using this phone at the moment with Spice CSL Gingerbread 2.3.4 and very satisfied with this, but custom ROMS and Root is the only thing which I'm missing.

Hope this helps you in taking your decision

Thanks a lot @manish_bhaumik and @paarkhi.. I surely appreciate your swift response.

Manish.. I was actually talking about the Samsung Galaxy S. The SL is not good since the phone is sold in only few countries and thus the dev support and also the stability of the default rom is also low. I saw that on IndiaPlaza they are selling the AMOLED version which is 18980 with 6 months vendor warranty and 22K+ for 1 year mfg warranty (which is the about the same as the price of the AMOLED SGS on Letsbuy). I don't care much for warranty since I'm gonna use the CM7 rom anyways.

@paarkhi... I think SGS has a TV out feature (not present in SG S-LCD version) which uses a cable similar to the one that comes with Canon Cameras and is connected via the 3.5 mm jack but not sure though ( I saw a youtube vid on this and quality was HDMI like ). So even though HDMI output may not be there.. there is some TV out option. Could you please elaborate what you mentioned about the flash light?

I'm gonna make a decision by this weekend. Would appreciate if someone can also clarify?

1. Any other color than brown one on saholic.com? the hotspot guy I called told me that Black would be available but I'm not sure until I see it.

2. There is supposed to SRS WOW HD implemented in this handset (from the Huawei U9000 model manual) so just wondering whats the sound quality like through a piece of gold quality cans used with this phone.

Regards

Sandy

Hey guys, after you owners using it for a while.

What is the verdict? I mean Spice Mi410 or Moto Defy?
There is already a long thread discussing both but
If you want custom ROMs then Moto Defy

and if you want great features then Spice MI-410

Okay, but tell me, does all these custom mods and roms give Moto Defy these two features:

1. 720p playback
2. 720p video recording(most important)

That's what I wanted to know. I don't like Mi410's design man, but taking it gives more for less and all.

There are some ROMs which provide 720p video recording, you need to check them on your own @ Defy Android Development - xda-developers

I emailed Gaurav the news. He was kind to credit me and post this on his site.

Sent from my Spice MI-410 on rooted Gingerbread 2.3.4
Thanks for the excellent tute, mate! I rooted 2.3.4 following your steps. Had to dig out some old Chip dvd to get a linux distro. From then on it was smooth sailing. Btw, i could never reach a quadrant score of 2000. Wonder why. Display consumes the most power in mine. Is it the same for you as well?

For people who are still on the fence about this phone, only downers i can talk about is the stereo speakers which i feel could've been a lil louder and the camera in low light settings which is less than stellar. Now if this thing had Gorilla glass, great speakers and a fatter battery, it would be a killer phone.
With 2.3.4, using Mort player with the equalizer, music is pretty good now. Disregard my earlier comments about music not being loud enough on earphones.

oh, and i bought another one of this for my cousin at 14K. The saholic discount was over and they refused to budge on the price no matter what. Screenguards should be available this week. Don't know about cases. Will be using the one that came with it for some time.

Been getting 3g speeds (comes and goes) on the 2gb recharge on my Airtel no. so i'm tethered quite often. That's the reason i still can't gauge the exact battery life.
And it does a get a bit hot when charging through the wall charger. But that happens with my room-mate's E5 as well (when using the net). So can't really say if that is a phone specific problem.

Which flavour of 2.3.4 are you on (Means Spice, Wellcom or Cherry) because I'm on Spice's 2.3.4 and trying to root and it doesn't get rooted (Followed Free Radical's Guide) and yes Display consumes most of the power. It is same for me.

Some issues on this phone

Phone Camera gets scrach easly, no guard for the same
Touch screen not giving proper response when the phone it layed down on table and use. If you hold phone (bar) then it responds well.
