I feel Vodafone Mobile Connect is better coz its 299 Rs UNLIMITED, while Airtel MO 98 Rs with 2 GB Limit.

@ggt
Sorry my bad... Here is the requirement.

Handset - Sony K750i (Might migrate to iPhone 3G with Safari/Opera)
Browser - Opera Mini 4.2
Requirement - Check Yahoo mail, Gmail & May be messenger, Full sites means normal viewing of all these mails. NOT WAP Site(not just mobile optimized sites)
NO use of torrent download on mobile.

Corret me if I am wrong on this
- Vodaphone LIVE - Can be used ONLY in using Phone surfing, Cant connect to PC & surf on PC
- Vodaphone Mobile connect - Can be used on Phone as well on PC also, Make phone as modem & surf on PC

If I dont want to connect to PC & surf (Guess iPhone's safari will be enough for good surfing in future) can I go ahead with Vodaphone LIVE coz its just 99 Rs ?

Do I need to change any portalmms thing to surf ?
just make the vodafone live settings as default thats it.
IMO the vlive settings were a handicap for older nokia phones (EG:nokia 6233) were opera mini could not be configured to be used for the wap settings
the newer phones would not face this problem i think.

also the vodafone live settings or any wap settings can be used in Pc
one has to configure manually all applications using this proxy connection.

Thanks @ggt

Do I need to change any settings in portalmms thing to surf all NONWAP sites ?

Vodaphone customer care said, LIVE is only for checking WAP sites..

Vodafone Mobile Connect is the equivalent of Airtel MO and you can access any protocols using that. I was saying about Vodafone Live which has these limitations just like Airtel Live.
Ya I know that. But don't you think Vodafone is bit costly than others. I use Vodafone as my primary no. It's from 5yrs. But for GPRS I'm using Airtel. I need something reliable and good. Airtel and Vodafone is most reliable amongst others. Though some of the forum members and my friends are saying that Docomo is providing good speeds too and is reliable. I'll try it. But I don't think they will be able to compete with Airtel or Vodafone in tower. I get connection almost everywhere.

Well.....Don't take my words hard......I'm just saying this from my personal experience. As I've almost SIM card's from all the providers(In Kolkata). And I've tried all of them. BSNL and Reliance is the worst. I don't get connection in my room even.

I'd like to get some good plans here in Kolkata from Vodafone. That would help me not to carry two mobiles and having two numbers. As the forum members are saying none of the plan exists in Kolkata Circle. Looks like there are much better plans in other circles from Vodafone.

i'm in dire need for gprs now. I haven't had the time to read thru all the posts. I use vodafone (blore) and they say they have a 2gb plan for a recharge of 95. Now can I connect the phone to my pc and browse? What will be the max speed? My phone supports edge. Please advice.

Yes, you can connect to PC and browse...though you have to put proxy in your browser and you can only surf net...all other ports are blocked...

I just need it for my mails, te and general browsing. No downloading stuff. Could you assist me? How do I set up the connection? I'm using win7

Well....you can use PC Suite or just use Bluetooth to connect your mobile with PC and then just "Dial APN" by right clicking your phone under "Bluetooth Devices".

UPDATE : Sorry, You are using Vodafone, I don't know the process of it. I do this in Airtel MO. You can try this till other vodafone user come and assist you.

Just set up a dial up connection like any normal modem...dial the connection...when connection is dialed..open browser and in put proxy as Host: 10.10.1.100 Port:9401

Thats it...start browsing...

I tried that. When i try to set up new connection, it asks me for carrier phone number, usnername, password. I know none of those.

Could you please tell me step by step in setting up the dial up?

What Konquerror mean is just create a dial-up connection and dial it. Now open the browser and put that proxy settings mentions by him in Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings. Now check "User proxy server for your LAN" and put the port and ip there in the box.

Am I right Konquerror??

Yes...you are right. Every mobile has different ways to use as a modem. Follow the instruction manual of your mobile and create a dial up connection...and after dialing...in browser put the proxy as suggested by me earlier and start browsing...

Is it true that Vodaphone Live has slow speed compare to Vodaphone mobile connect ?

Usage will be strictly on Mobile phone browser ?

Guys, is Airtel the best provider for mobile browsing in Delhi/NCR? I thought about going with Docomo but it turns out they don't service the Delhi area.

What is the speed of Vodafone Mobile Connect? I tried airtel mobile office, docomo : all give an average of 3-4 kilobytes per second speed. At this speed, if you leave the download on for 24 hours for 30 days - it would not reach even 10 GB. Since it is so slow, you won't be able to browse with it much. So it is extremely hard to reach the 2 GB limit.
