The Aam Admi Party

Sometimes it feels like we Delhi-ites elected AAP purely for the tamasha-giri factor. All political parties are more or less the same, at least we get some decent entertainment out of this one. :P

Kejriwal : AAP is prepared to take support from the 8 Congress MLAs.

Kejriwal: Manish Sisodia has been in touch with Congress MLAs but they don't seem to be keen on supporting AAP.

Garg: All the 8 Congress MLAs are ready to support AAP but Ajay Maken and Randeep Surjewala are creating obstacles.

Kejriwal: Because of the problems being created by Maken, Congress MLAs have not been able to take a final decision.

Kejriwal: We should not speak out at this time. We should speak out only if the Congress MLAs say publicly that they are prepared to support us.

Garg: We have to move fast else the Lt Governor may announce dissolution of the Assembly.

Garg: We have to move very carefully so that the Cong MLAs don't end up doing a sting on us.

Kejriwal: What you should do is to break the Congress and get six MLAs to float their own party. They can then support AAP from the outside.

Kejriwal: We have been trying for one and a half months now, but we haven't been able to crack a deal with the Congress so far.

Kejriwal: These 6 MLAs were planning to join the BJP but they could not do so because three of them are Muslims. We should get them to now support AAP.

Garg: Ok I will get this going.

PS: Another tape out.

Well, we have the BJP doing ghar wapasi and all other shit against minorities. And we have the congress destroying secularism for years now for its own gains. AAP is right in claiming that Muslims are only left with a few choices, and they're one of them, at least in Delhi.

Its hilarious, I watch these stings hoping there'd be something in them and its only Arvind Kejriwal saying what News papers and analysts have said all along. And apparently that is supposed to be a sting. Yawn. Next sting please, these ones are lame.

Never really understood what AAP stands for.

Congress's vision was a liberal western democracy which they tried to impose on a reluctance audience. With disastrous results. But at least, it was born out of Nehru's socialist/internationalist ideas which were in favour during much of 19th century. Everyone in those years thought science and economics were the only important things and tribal loyalties were frowned upon.

BJP, in spite of its pathetic attempts to deny, is rooted in Hindu revivalism/nationalism.

What keeps the AAP think tank awake at night? They seem like people who try to define themselves by what they are not, rather than what they are.

AAP stands for ideas and solutions, participative democracy. That, people only need a platform, not a bunch of politicians to think for them and lead them like a herd.

Not to mention that the corruption that is brought in along with these politicians would get removed. Hope that answers your question.

They want to address the deficit in democracy. Which is very broad compared to what BJP is trying to do ie address the deficit of governance.

This idea of you can have clean politics without corruption is naive at best. These AAp supporters do not understand that this so called corruption is what fuels democracy. oh where are the funds to come from in the next election.

If you legalise corporate lobbying like most western countries have then you end up with just two or three parties. That won't cover the diversity of the country. people will get disaffected and say this govt is unrepresentative and take up arms against the state.

Given how petty politicians can be donors do not want to be identified because there can be repercussions when the other party comes into office.

i think they've largely succeeded. the constitution isn't going anywhere any time soon. They've carried over what the Brits discovered over a hundred years ago. How to rule India.

Arent' they. tribes is what people stick to when the state is weak. When there is an inability to craft a national identity. This is what is happening in numerous countries in the middle east. Instead of identifying with the state survivial depends on identifying with ones commnunity.

BJP, in spite of its pathetic attempts to deny, is rooted in Hindu revivalism/nationalism.
heh, this is more rhetoric than concrete achievement. You want to list out their achievements the last time they were in office in this regard ?

They want to address the deficit in democracy. Accroding to AAp democracy only exists during elections. Its what happens between elections that is the problem.

More ambitious compared to what BJP is trying to do ie address the deficit of governance.

heh, this is more aspiration rhetoric than concrete achievement. Try to operationalise that rhetoric and see the obstacles that spring up. Forget this, stuff that has nothing to do and arguably more important to the future of this country is getting clogged up in parliament. What does that tell you ? change of whatever stripe comes slow. Better slow and deliberate than fast and disastrous.

Hmm ... but which party claims to be otherwise? If I understand this statement correctly, AAP desires to be a better version of Congress (or BJP if you prefer). I.e, AAP wants to be better at implementing the existing laws (which is a big deal in India, I am not taking anything away from them).

My question should have been: Does AAP seek any changes in the way our constitution and laws, which are congress' work, have been designed? I am quite certain BJP does.[DOUBLEPOST=1426403191][/DOUBLEPOST]

Tells me that BJP doesn't have majority in Rajya Sabha.

And that the media still believes that BJP is a temporary aberration that will go away, like Vajpayee. So they are not eager to change loyalties.

Doesn't really matter what AAP stands for when the the people running the party want both the party members and the people to follow them like a dumb herd. Of course, both congress and BJP have too have their own stupid herds, but AAP has the dumbest herd of followers out of them all. If you want to join the party, you need to bring either loads of money or power and you need to blindly listen and follow whatever AK has to say. If any of them decides to part ways, a negative campaign will immediately be initiated to destroy their future prospects.

AAP stands for the the worst of Congress, BJP and numerous other political parties put together. A party run by people who don't know the meaning of honesty or principles containing either similar minded people or idiots.

Not just middle east, pretty much all over the world. The black riots and hispanic votebank politics in the USA, the muslim/christian divide over Charlie Hedbo murders in France, PEGIDA in Germany, and UKIP and EDL in UK are all assertions of tribal identities.

The idea of liberal democracy based on universalism seems to be dying a natural death. People want their tribal affiliations back.

Expressions of it. Commies in the 20s and 30s also got loads of votes in France & Italy. To the point people were afraid they'd turn communist. But with all those right wing movements in the EU, its seems the left wing parties are winning office.

Not sustainable and a non-inclusive society will be worse. Again see the ME. In an increasingly globalised world tribalism is dead. Self reliance isn't enough. Countries are banding together in trade blocs to exert influence. This is the future. You stay out of the club then you miss out and things happen around you whether you like or not because you did not have a say.

Right and when the other party wins they roll back what the BJP put in place. See POTA. After 26/11 it got quietly re-instated.

And that the media still believes that BJP is a temporary aberration that will go away, like Vajpayee. So they are not eager to change loyalties.
Media is what put BJP in office, media are the oppositions mouth piece. All i got to hear from them in the last govt was what the BJP thought should be done or not. Look at the coverage of land acquisition bill, at least ten articles why it should not be done and you have to look hard to find why it should be done. Every damn issue is like this (!)

oh so you want a more participative democracy ? that is hard to do when facts gets drowned out by noise.

I don't know if BJP is temporary or not, development based govts have a mixed record in India. If they can't show improvements by 2019 they will be gone.

See the coverage on AAP. Oh man they are so screwed....

Really ? unless AK quits who can topple them ?

Delhi is an experiment and the people there are guinea pigs. AAP is going to screw up more often that it gets it right but they've got five years left.

given the instances of people disbanded from the party since its inception, i doubt they even believe in democracy.

there seems to be one way of functioning, bow down to the greatest man in the history of mankind or your honesty certificate will be nullified.
This is a narrative that plays to both our fears.

A party needs a strong sense of direction. There should be no doubt who is in charge otherwise nothing will get done. So i see the ongoing developments assisting with it. Unless AK asserts his leadership there is no AAP. So this is re-consolidation. Earlier he got slammed for thinking about nation wide campaign when he should have set his own house in order. So its looks like he is doing that.

A lot of what is said about AK can also be said about Modi. What is BJP ? Modi + Shah, is it bjp or modi janata, does anybody else matter. Of course they do but that is the public face. Overly centralised but here the reason is ministries are fighting and PMO's office lost its authority in the last govt.

Why the hate? I am not an AAP supporter and believe it will fail, but I wish my party adopts some of their tactics. Who wouldn't want their representatives to be approachable?

The only test of a political party is election. Who it keeps and who it ejects is no one's business. If they don't perform, they will be out after the next elections.
