The Definitive Nokia 5800XM Thread!!!

The Cam needs a major overhaul in the firmware.. Cmon Nokia , do something. I'll upgrade my firmware only when the changes are substantial.

Also downloaded Scalado using my "default" Airtel Live connection. Dunno how much the buggers are gonna charge me. But the software is nice. With some improvements, can be a killer app.

tried it right now , till yesterday it would finish checking for update in few seconds and then say "no updates" but right now from the past 5 mins it says its "Checking for updates" !!! :S

Edit : After 5 mins of trying it came up and said "Server not Responding" !

check with ur mobile, via the gprs.
The firmware file is not so big , about 12MB in size.

NB:1) if possible update the firmware after removing the memory card. because in case you need to do a soft or hard refresh (default factory settings) you will loose the DRM licences i.e. all your pre-loaded songs (DCF Format) will get locked.
speaking from experience ....:( :ashamed:

2) Perhaps that is why it is taking some time to tweak the firmware to make it India specific, so the users dont loose the license etc... hence it may show up on the nokia server after a while.

3) Reset the phone lock code and remove the phone lock protection before upgrading. trust me you will have a tough time entering the default lock code of "12345" after the upgrade.:eek:hyeah:(if phone lock is enabled that is)

4)Backup all your data (complete) via the nokia pc suite before upgrading.

my upgraded version is as follows
Software version
V 20.0.012
S/w Date
26-01-2009
Custom Version
20.0.012.C01.01

previously, before the upgrade, my version was 11.0.008.RED.01

@Obama - What is your phone code (You will find it under the battery)?

How did u update the phone , NSU or FOTA ?

EDIT :

An advice / suggestion for people having problem with the Nokia Software Updater (NSU) in Vista

My NSU was giving me problems while starting up. It crashed giving me a "Missing Components" Error everytime. I tried reinstallation of every nokia driver/software i had on my PC, but it did not work. Then i came across a brilliant way to get it working. Download this Older version of the NSU , install it (after completely removing the newer version from your pc) and run it. It will give u a message for updating the NSU. Exit at that point. Then reinstall the newer NSU version and it works like a charm.

Here is the link

BTW, anyone with this code 0575590 managed to get the update ? Not showing in FOTA or NSU. :( Wanted a faster phone over the weekend.

Code=0575590 , Model = 5800d-1
I did it over FOTA. BSNL Network.
Upgrade file size was approx. 12MB.

Not working for me. Either on Airtel or on BSNL or on Vodaphone GPRS. This is getting irritating.

Are you guys saying there are separate firmware versions for Red and Blue colour??

The phone features are the same and colour doesnt come in here... They will only be changing the customization pack for different colours, which will have things like the blue/red coloured themes depending on the colour. But the underlying firmware is essentially the same.

Maybe Nokia pulled back the firmware for some minor changes...

coz many of the guys who did the update and were using the phone lock features (with a custom key code)... could not boot up their phones...
