Car & Bike Formula 1 2012 Thread

schumacher was expected to be dominating in all three sessions and to be at the pole position. i guess his last lap was spoilt by some one in the way. he was pissed . although roseberg made it to the top 6. would be a very interesting race tomorrow with the track temperature expected to go up just above 40 degrees. .the super soft pirelli tyres will play a huge role in lap times and drivers will have to preserve it to the maximum to get best lap times, but i don't see that happening with the amount of lock ups at the corners . the first corner will decide the race i guess and dont be surprised if teams decide on a one one stop strategy with the harder compound tires

Renegade - 2011 Lotus + 2008 Kimi = Disaster.

sandeepsachin - I think everyone except Button qualified on Supersoft Pirelli tyres. Button made a smart move. He will run a long first stint on those and 2 comparatively shorter stints on supersoft tyres. Kimi too has a choice. I think he should do the same.

The track has high tyre wear so a 3 stop is a possibilty. Maybe they can try 2 Soft Tyre long stints and last small stint on Super Soft Tyres.

I just hope Lotus don't have cucumbers making strategies for them again today.

Amazing race. I am just wondering if McLaren tricked Ferrari into adopting a 1 stop strategy for Alonso.

Brilliant race just sad that Kimi didn't keep on pushing after the pitstop like Perez did.

Amazing race... 7th Winner in 7 Races, First time in F1 history :)

Schumi is out of luck asusual, i guess Mercedes is not so strong this week as Rosberg also couldn't do much..

Ferrari and Redbull - Gambled which didn't pay off.. if they would've followed Hamilton's strategy, then podium is sure for them.. Lost opportunity though..
Button - What the hell happened to HIM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ok. i guess the logic behind ferrari's one stop strategy for alonso was this :

up until the 59th lap , the best lap times of the race were 1 minute 17's . there was a 13 second gap between alonso and hamilton at that point in the race. alonso himself was doing around 1 min 18's a lap. so ferrari assumed that even if hamilton were to pit for new tyres, he would be quicker by a second every lap which would still take him around 13 laps to catch up alonso. even if he were to catch up and use the drs wing to get past the leader, alonso at best could grab a second place since vetel was on older tyres too . but little did ferrari know, that hamilton would start gaining more than 1 sec a lap. he started timing 1 min 16's as soon as he got the new tyres and was pushing even harder which ultimately got him the win. it was a good strategy by perez too to pit for newer tyres which got him the podium. this was a piss poor strategy by ferrari as time and again we have noticed that at the end of the race , especially when there is considerable gap between cars, drivers are able to push the car faster as they don't get bottled down by anyone ahead. gambling like this has proved costly for ferrari even in the past. they should tighten up their sleeves and start thinking of making proper strategies than hoping against hope.

Extremely happy to see MSC in podium.. Long due for him..

Very exciting race, i wish Grosjean to be in podium as 8th winner, but bad luck prevented him..

Absolutely. Schumi back on the podium is monumental. Amazing race. Sick and tired of seeing vetel on the podium . Good that he had a mechanical failure . hate that guy when he points that no-1 finger every time he wins . shame , Grosjean could'nt make it. he was driving like a champion.

Absolutely like to see these words "Good that he had a mechanical failure . hate that guy when he points that no-1 finger every time he wins" as i do wish the same :D

Can anyone tell me where I can watch yesterday's race?

Missed the qualifying and the race

Also can anyone tell me what happened to Romain and Lewis. I heard Romain was driving a damaged car and Lewis was a lap down before he retired.

Hamilton suffered an early puncture(from the debris of massa's car in the first lap when he collided with one of the torro rosso) and was left to fight it out at the back of the field, being lapped by the leaders. Very surprised there was no safety car with that much debris on the track. Dangerous!

Romain stated at the back of the grid on 21st cause of a penality for a gear box change .

As for highlights, you can watch it at 2am early morning on star sports.

Kimi out of the pits during the second stop almost gave me a heart attack. Glad that was not Pastor but Romain or it was gameover for Kimi.

He had the freshest tyres among the frontrunners and was catching Hammy quickly and had plenty of laps to go. Honestly it has been a while since I started pacing around the room in anticipation.

Sad he never got close enough to make a pass but I don't think I saw anyone of the frontrunners make a pass on the person in front (Heck even the golden boy was crying on radio).

The second stint from Kimi was fantastic.

Apologies for the Kimi fanboyism but I have not been this excited for a duel since Spa 2008 which ofcourse ended in tears. Though this involved the same drivers I must admit I have begun to respect Hammy since last year.
