Has anyone tried using a 3G Router to create a WiFi network? I'm getting greedy and want to setup a home network for my PS3, iPhone, DL Rig using the data card.

Has anyone done something like this or have linkies to where I can get more details?

I use Tp-Link TL-MR3420, got my data card plugged into this and it makes the 3g connection as wifi which in turn is shared by phones, lappy, Tv. Works well. Ocasionaly I need to switch it off and then on again, mind you my setup remains on 24X7.

Regards,

Interesting. Which 3G Modem are you using? I've got the UMG1831.

Moreover, where'd you purchase it? And how much did it set you back?

I am using E1750, on MTNL 3g network in Delhi, brought the mentioned 3g router for 2400 I think, purchased it from Nehru Place, Delhi.

in delhi... 4500 plan is no longer available..

in mumbai the limit is 800GB for 6 months (grab it before they stop this plan)

Any idea if it'll work with the UMG1831 as well?

Yes I am sure it will. Will be missing my 4500/6 months plan. No longer here in Delhi. Guess we Delhites burned their network LOL

Guys need help, I bought a new Huawei E173 Unlocked modem from ebay but when i am trying to use it with MTNL 3G its giving me DNS resolution problems extremely slow speeds or no internet connection at all, the same sim works absolutley fine in LG P500 & same can be tethered on my laptop via Wifi Hotspot or USB Lan but the USB Modem is simply not working properly.

Same problem when i insert BSNL 3G sim, however the 2G Edge networks work fine.

Network range for 3G BSNL/MTNL is fair.

Need help with this DNS resolution, open DNS & google DNS are also not working. :(

I am not sure if this will work for ur modem since i am posting this with experience to E2158 modem. Whatever software you are using, make sure that its enabled to HSPDA. You need to tweak with those settings to ensure you get good speeds.

Why do you need dns ?

No DNS reqd but resolution of DNS is causing problems, hence sites are not opening or take up time outs.

I always keep 3G Only N/W Mode & have HSPA in network.

Also problem is there in USB Modem while i get full speeds in LG Optimus One with only gprsppsmum as APN

^it is supposed to be connected with gprsppsmum only.
Other apn wont work or if they work they will have issues.

how are the speeds while downloadin torrent?

are the speeds consistent? whats avg speed during day n night?

my usage will be pure downloadin around 40-50gb a month so is it good considering speed, price, connectivity

no roaming only home purpose & location significantly nearer from Prabhadevi Telephone exchange so i think connectivity or low signal might not issue

also i should consider going with MTNL 3g stick or should i look for aftermarket one?

Hi

Is anyone of you facing high ping rates? On observing speedtest, i found that values are as high as 300ms on a regular basis. Despite having a gain of -93dBm(from MDMA) the values are still high. Can anyone tell how to reduce these ping rates?

-93 is not a best signal i think .

The best signal values are around -73 dBm.

yeah i know....but thats the best signal value available. Any idea how to improve it. I have heard of high gain antenna. Any idea from where it can be purchased
